GO COWBOYS!!! 7-1
Sunday, November 13th
Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (home team is second)
3:25 PM CST on FOX
As I am starting to write to you about the Cowboys and their amazing season... I am watching the Veterans Day marathon of the new series "The Warfighters" on the History Channel. More info in the "Random Info" section below...
Now back to sports... the local guys who entertain us and play a sport we all love, but can all acknowledge, and most of them do, it is just a sport.
Trivia...
How many Super Bowls have the Cowboys and Steelers won combined?
If you were born in the late 90's or 2000's... you will have to Google this.
These two teams were known for winning back in the day. They have faced each other 31 times. The Cowboys have won 16 of those 31 games.
However, times have changed... actually, this past year has changed so many things in Dallas.
Quarterbacks...
We entered the season with Romo at QB and almost no other back-up options. Yes, we had drafted Dak Prescott in the 4th round, and 134 other teams passed on him, but we had yet to know his full potential.
The Steelers entered the season with their franchise QB, Ben Roethlisberger.
Roethlisberger had knee surgery on October 17th and returned last week vs. the Ravens. He didn't look too good, but they are sticking with their main guy.
Where as in Dallas, our back-up situation turned into the best scenario anyone could have ever not-expected. Now we have two great QB options and don't have to rush Tony Romo back from injury, only to put him at risk of being injured even more so.
And can I give a shout-out to our offensive line... they have given Dak an average of 2.47 seconds in the pocket to throw... the NFL average is 2.28 seconds (stats from ESPN, Jacob Nitzberg). This ain't no rodeo, but any bull rider would tell you that your goal is 3 seconds. High five O-line!! Y'all have made Dak Prescott one of the most accurate passers in the league with the time you give him.
Running Backs and Wide Receivers...
Le'Veon Bell... Steelers RB... he's only rushed for 376 yards and averaged 75.2 yards per game, but he is still a threat. He is healthy, and I believe Marinelli and our Defense will have to do a decent job covering him and Antonio Brown, the Steelers #1 Wide Receiver. Antonio has caught 55, passes for 677 yards, and 6 TD's. Don't get caught watching the paint dry...
Ezekiel Elliott... y'all... he has rushed for 891 yards, has 7 touchdowns (TD's), and 155 receiving yards. He can run, he can catch, he can block... he's Superman! Let's not give him that much credit. He's young and needs to stay humble. But he does have the best blocking Offensive Line, and a Tight End that doubles as a O-Lineman in Jason Witten.
Our WR (wide receiver) corps has also done an outstanding job of running routes and getting where Dak can throw to them! With almost 3 seconds in the pocket, those guys are running circles out there, trying to get open. That is where Dez Bryant is an advantage. Get the guys to double team him. Do NOT force the ball to Dez, but use him as the decoy... unless you have an amazing 50 yard play in mind... throw it to him. He's 1 for 3 in catching balls that hit is hands.
Defense...
I know it's Week 10... but I'm still shocked that in Week 10 or any week this season, our Defense would be ranked in the Top 10 and have only allowed the opposing team to score 23 points per game or less. That is legit.
We are also ranked 6th in the NFL against the run game. We have held our opponent to an average of 86.88 yards per game. Not looking so good for Bell.
However, the Steelers D, once known for being the best ever, has allowed 99.63 yards per game agains the run. Advantage Zeke.
I actually think the Steelers pride themselves on Defense so much, they will focus too much on Zeke and leave the passing game wide open. Advantage Dak.
The Cowboys will be 8-1 after this little road trip to Pittsburgh.
Cowboys 31 ~ Steelers 24

GO MAVS!!! 2-6 (wins - losses)
Yayay! We've won two games!!!
First things first, Harrison Barnes was a great acquisition for this team!! He needed a few games to get acclimated, but he's firing on all cylinders now!
He is averaging 22.6 point per game (PPG) and has a 49.3 Field Goal Percentage.
Here is a quote from him to ESPN...
Tim MacMahon - ESPN Staff Writer
Harrison Barnes: "It's no secret that Dirk is going to be leaving this team and the Mavs are going to be entering a post-Nowitzki era. We have to be prepared for that. That's why I'm working every single day, working with the coaches, so I can do my part and make sure I'm ready. Whether that time is now or that time is whenever, I need to be able to step into that [role] and have it be a seamless transition."
Dirk. The injured guy. 1 block per game average. That's how little help we have on defense. Oh where are you Tyson Chandler... gone are the days I'm afraid.
Deron Williams is day to day with a calf injury. No fun!
The Mavs have a few days rest, so well see what that does for Dirk and Williams timeline to return to the court.

The Warfighters - on the History Channel
The director of Lone Survivor, Peter Berg, has put this series together, employing Veterans of our armed forces and telling their stories.
It is eye opening and very informative for some of us who don't understand what these BRAVE Men and Women go through.
No matter what, they need to know they are appreciated, loved, and prayed for. They are Heroes. All of them.
If you missed it... I'm sure you can go back and watch it On Demand or DVR the replay's.
Thank you Veterans. Thank you to their families. Thank you for anyone who is thinking of serving and fighting for people they may never know and even if they did, they may not like the person. But, they are willing to defend all of our freedom.
The quote below is from the movie Jack Reacher (the first one). It was chilling to hear, the first time I watched the movie in Colorado with my sister and brother-in-law. But it's kind of stuck in my head. Not that I want to give Hollywood credit, but I do appreciate a good movie quote.
Jack Reacher: Look out the window.
Helen: No, I've work to do.
Jack Reacher: Just humor me.
Helen: And you need to leave.
Jack Reacher: Okay.
[Grabs Helen's arm and starts to pull her to the window]
Helen: Let, let go of me.
Jack Reacher: Would you tell me what you see?
Helen: I see the same... things I see every day.
Jack Reacher: Well, imagine you've never seen it. Imagine you've spent your whole life in other parts of the world being told every day you're defending freedom. And finally you decide you've had enough. Time to see what you've given up your whole life for. Maybe get some of that freedom for yourself. Look at the people. Now tell me which ones are free. Free from debt. Anxiety. Stress. Fear. Failure. Indignity. Betrayal. How many wish that they were born knowing what they know now? Ask yourself how many would do things the same way over again? And how many would live their lives like me.
Be a person worthy of defending. And love those around you inside of the United States of America. We can't be our own enemy.
