Dallas Cowboys Preview Week 9

GO COWBOYS!!! Week 9 Matchup: Minnesota Vikings vs. Dallas Cowboys  ( in Dallas - since they're the 2nd team listed ) -  GAME TIME - Sunday, NOON CST Well folks... the Dallas Cowboys had a dismal loss last week. I still feel like I have a Matthew Stafford hangover with his 1 yard TD to win the game. But, you can only stay down so long. We are playing the Vikings this week... move along! :) ~ The Vikings have a QB battle going on. It is between  Christian Ponder  and  Josh Freeman . Just throw those names around. Ponder went to Florida State and married an ESPN anchor ( my dream job ). And Freeman went to Kansas State, playing 5 years in the league. I don't care which QB plays, as long as we win!  ~ The Vikings Defense is terrible. As bad as numbers have been against our Dallas Defense at times... theirs is much worse. All that to say... I really think Tony Romo and our Offense can beat them. Except for Jared Allen... he's a guy on their D who is fast and can sack th

Dallas Mavericks - Basketball

GO MAVS!!! If you ever wonder why your friends who like sports are "always" watching something... it's because seasons overlap. But those of us who like sports are totally okay with it. It's those who don't have an appreciation for sports that is bothers. Perspective. :) I briefly mentioned the Mavs in a previous post... but here's a little info on them... The Dallas Mavericks are your basketball team ( if you didn't already know this )! They play downtown Dallas ( not in Arlington like your other two "Dallas" teams... doesn't even make sense... taxes ) - at the American Airlines Center. The Dallas Stars also play here. ( That is your hockey team ) These games are fun and fairly easy to get to if you live in the downtown area.  The Mavs won the NBA Championship for the first time on June 12, 2011. We finally beat the Miami Heat! Woohoo - Party!!! Here is a video of Dirk singing "We are the Champions" - ha!  ( Do not a

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or throwing. Th

Dallas Cowboys Preview Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Week 8 Matchup: Dallas Cowboys vs. Detroit Lions  ( in Detroit - since they're the 2nd team listed ) -  GAME TIME - Sunday, NOON CST The Detroit Lions. The only way some of you may know this team is if you ever watched the 90's TV show  Home Improvement . Tim Allen played the main character and was a huge Lions fan. "Hidey ho, neighbor"  What you need to know about the Lions...  ~ Their in the NFC North. ( We're in the NFC East ).  ~ They typically play on Thanksgiving Day ( so do the Cowboys ).  ~ Their QB is Matthew Stafford. Dude played college ball at Georgia, and came into the NFL as a 1st round draft pick in 2009. ( we talked about the NFL Draft  a few weeks ago )  ~ They also have one of the greatest Wide Receivers ever... Calvin Johnson! He was the only receiving option for the past few years for the Lions. I won my Fantasy Football league the year he came into the league... because of him, Adrian Peterson and Sidney Rice... sigh.

Over-reaction Monday Week 7

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys beat Philly! 17-3  Just keepin' it real in The City of Brotherly Love! The game started out with many, many penalties! ( "penalty" - when a player does something illegal and a yellow flag is thrown by the referee ) The Refs seemed to be on the Eagles side, but they got it ( somewhat ) evened out by the second half.  Players worth talking about...  ~ The Dallas Defense - talk about stepping up! Our Defensive Line ( big dudes trying to tackle the QB at all times ) are banged up! We have three Defensive Ends out of the game right now, so our Secondary played a huge role in this game! ( Remember - "secondary" - the fast guys who guard the Wide Receivers ) Carr, Church and Sean Lee ( actually a linebacker ) got it done and held the Eagles to only 3 points! Air high five fellas!  ~ Joseph Randle and Phillip Tanner ( Running Backs - RB's ) did a great job backing up for DeMarco Murray ( remember he's out due to a knee injury ). R

Dallas Cowboys Preview Week 7

GO COWBOYS!!! Week 7 Matchup: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles  ( in Philly - since they're the 1st team listed ) -  GAME TIME - Sunday, NOON CST If you read this blog, you've heard me add random phrases here and there regarding the Philadelphia Eagles. I put a link on one blog, reminding or informing you that their fans  booed Santa Claus , boo their own players ( which is why I am not a fan of those of you who booed Josh Hamilton when he was still a Texas Ranger ), and most importantly - they booed Michael Irvin  ( one of the greatest WR's for Dallas and in the NFL!! ) as he was carried off the field on a stretcher in 1999 - season ending injury. There are youtube video's out there, but it's too painful to link you too them; search at your own risk. I remember watching this happen on TV with my whole family in the TV room and tears in our eyes. Needless to say, Philly fans aren't my favorite, nor their team. I have a story about Eagles fans at the fi

Over-reaction Monday Week 6

GO COWBOYS!!! The Cowboys are 3-3... ( Wins are always the first number - Losses are the 2nd number ) - we're batting .500 folks! We Beat the Redskins!!! 16-31 :)  This was a great game!!! The Cowboys fought hard, and Tony Romo (our QB) played with a similar intensity as he did last week. ( The competition wasn't nearly as pressing, but he still got the job done! ) Good job Romo! He was also able to hit all of his WR's again! If the Offensive Line continues to give Romo time ( Cowboys fans have been whining about this for years ) - he should be able to produce a few more W's! ( "W" - Win )  ~ Dwayne Harris (WR) - this guy is fast! That's all you need to know. He plays on our Special Teams roster, and returns punts. He is always fast and can juke the defensive players very well. Scored a TD ( touchdown ) in this game and came close to scoring a second one! Props to Harris! ( "Special Teams" - so, there is the Offense, Defense and then the S

Dallas Cowboys Preview Week 6

GO COWBOYS!!! The Cowboys are 2-3... ( Wins are always the first number - Losses are the 2nd number ) Week 6 Matchup: Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys  ( in Dallas - since they're team is listed 2nd... ) -  GAME TIME - Sunday, 7:30 PM CST Oh... the Washington Redskins are in town! This is an age old rivalry. You know, like Texas vs. OU, which happens this weekend in Dallas. Well, think of the Redskins vs. Cowboys as the NFL version of the Red River Rivalry . ( For those of you who don't know what the University of Texas  vs. Oklahoma University  rivalry is, this is your opportunity to look cute and ask your boyfriend... hint - it's College Football).  Side Note: My Uncle and Cousin are Redskins fans. This dates back to my Uncle going to a Cowboys vs Redskins game decades ago and him deciding to "cheer for the other team." So, growing up, when these two teams played each other, each time the Redskins would score, he would call our house and let the ph

Over-reaction Monday ~ Week 5

GO COWBOYS!!! The Cowboys are 2-3... ( Wins are always the first number - Losses are the 2nd number ) Week 5 Matchup: Denver Broncos vs. Dallas Cowboys  ( in Dallas - since they're team is listed 2nd... remember... ) -  GAME TIME 3:25 PM CST WE LOST... 51-48 (2nd highest scoring game in NFL history 99 pts, since 1970) There are a million stats I could throw at you, and am tempted to because it was such a great game!  ~ I warned you about Peyton Manning! He threw for 414 yards ( that's a lot ) and 4 TD's ( touchdowns )! He had his first interception of the year! Guess who on the Dallas Defense intercepted Peyton Manning?? Remember... Morris Claiborne, the guy I told yall needed to have a "super-star" game?? He made the interception. Didn't do much else the rest of the game, but he did that one thing! And it was enough for a while!  ~ Both Teams Defenses were worked over. You have two QB's who have great arms, and are able to out-smart most second

Dallas Cowboys Week 5 Preview

GO COWBOYS!!! The Cowboys are 2-2... ( Wins are always the first number - Losses are the 2nd number ) Week 5 Matchup: Denver Broncos vs. Dallas Cowboys  ( in Dallas - since they're team is listed 2nd... remember... ) -  GAME TIME 3:25 PM CST If you read my post from  Over-reaction Monday - Week 2 , you would see how much I enjoy watching Peyton Manning. He is the QB for the Denver Broncos. This is only his second year playing for Denver. He spent 14 years with the Indianapolis Colts  ( 13 playing years ) . Then the Colts drafted Rookie QB Andrew Luck in 2012 with their 1st pick. This was the Colts way of getting out of their allegiance with Manning, since he's aging and all. Manning sat out the entire 2011 season after having neck surgery. All this to say, he is on a quest. A quest for not only greatness, he's already achieved that, but a Championship. He has one Super Bowl title with the Colts, and seems to be determined to win one with the Broncos, which is completel

2013 Texas Rangers Eulogy

GO RANGERS!!! Last night was the end of the Texas Rangers 2013 Season. With a tie-breaker game as their 163 game ( 162 games are normal regulation for baseball ) - they lost it all.  It all started with the inconsistent calls by umpire Jeff Kellogg. This man is the guy who stood behind home plate and called a "strike" for David Price ( pitcher for Tampa Bay ) and for any of our 6 pitchers we put in the game, he would call the same pitch a "ball." David Price pitched the whole game for the Rays... why not... he could throw dirt up to the plate and it would have been called a strike.  The Rangers couldn't get their bats going, and most of them were quite frustrated at the plate! They tried to argue with Mr. Kellogg, but nothing worked. We were doomed.  More importantly, we shouldn't have been in a tie-breaker situation to begin with! We shouldn't have lost the first two weeks of September with the talent we have on our team. This is our second year
