Week 8: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ MAVS Home Opener ~ World Series ~ Early Voting

GO COWBOYS!!! 5-1
1st in the NFC EAST
Sunday, October 30th
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys (home team is second)
7:30 PM CST on NBC

The Cowboys had a BYE last week. Which meant I had a BYE last week too!
(Like how I worked that in)?

We are definitely NOT on BYE this week. Nope, we're allowing Eagles to come to Dallas and play us at Jerry World.

These aren't the same Eagles as they have been; they are actually decent this year, despite my disdain for them. Their record is 4-2. (1-2 Away, advantage Cowboys ~ This means the Eagles have won only one game at home and lost two on the road; therefore, they are better at home. This week, they're not at home, they are in our house and we will win ~ Cowboys are 2-1 at home).

So, what do we make of this game Sunday night?

Either way, if both teams show up, it's going to be a good game!

Both Offenses are able to throw the ball. Both QB's, Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott, have thrown for over 1300 yards this season.

Wentz has 8 TD's and Prescott has 7.
Wentz has 3 INT's (interceptions) and Dak only has one.
Wentz has a RB (running back), Ryan Matthews, who rushes for an average of 43.67 YPG (yards per game). Dak has a RB, Ezekiel Elliott, who rushes for an average of 117.16 YPG.

Which QB has more O-Line support?

The guy with less INT's (most likely).

Which QB has more play options?

Probably the guy who has healthy WR's and a running back who can put up 117 yards or more.

Which QB gets more rest on the field and off?

The QB with the best O-Line in Football, the best RB in football, and a Defense who has proven themselves week after week to be a contender in this league!

The more balanced you are as a team, the better everyone plays and less mistakes are made. No penalties.

Defense...

The Eagles have held their opponents to 88 points total in 6 games. They are stronger agains the Pass rush (wide receiver corps) than they are against the run, aka, Ezekiel Elliott. Once again, advantage Cowboys.

Injuries...

Dez Bryant is planning to play this week. But if you're watching what I'm watching every Sunday, not sure we need him.

Scandrick and Claiborne are questionable. We need these guys in our secondary (defense). Especially Claiborne! His coverage has been spectacular this season and he has 20 tackles and 1 INT.

Special Teams...

The biggest question for Dallas is Special Team coverage... the Eagles have dominated on Special Teams this year. They have two kicks returned for TD's. Talk about momentum shifter... if your Special Teams unit is scoring and your Offense isn't... it's time to step it up! Or do the Statue of Liberty play.

We will WIN...

As close as stats are, I believe that us, at Home, coming off the BYE week, and everyone getting much needed rest and injury repair, we can throw the Eagles off their game and win this thing!

WORLD SERIES!!!

Chicago Cubs (1) vs. Cleveland Indians (2)

The series was tied 1-1 with first two games played in Cleveland.

Game 3 was played tonight, Friday, in Chicago. Winner is Cleveland. They now lead the series 2-1. First team to win 4 games wins the World Series.

Here is a snapshot from Wikipedia as to the teams who have played the longest without winning a World Series. See where we're at... 3rd in line to the two teams that are in the WS this year. Oh the heartache. "There's always next year," so they say...

No matter who wins this year, there will be one team, still with this drought, still with the unfulfilled dream of bringing a Championship to their city, and unable to relish in the beauty that is October Baseball.

We have a lot of rumors already surrounding our ball club. It will be an interesting off-season for sure!

GO MAVS!!! 0-2 (wins - losses)

Friday night was the Home Opener for the Dallas Mavericks!!!

Sadly, we've lost our first two games of the season.

Despite an almost sold out crowd tonight, Dirk Nowitzki was not able to play for the fans. He was sick.

However, Harrison Barnes, the guy we acquired from the Golden State Warriors (one of the best teams in the NBA last year... they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Championship - minor detail), scored 31 points in the Mavs loss to the Houston Rockets tonight. Without Dirk he stepped up even more than he did in the Season Opener vs. the Indiana Pacers when he put up 19 points. Dirk had 22 points in that game as well.

We're putting up points! That's not an issue. We are second in the NBA for points scored. It looks like it's going to be a defensive battle again this year.

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

Rangers lose Game 1

GO RANGERS!!! Rangers lose to the Kansas City Royals, 2-1. Their pitching was spectacular. Our pitching wasn't too bad, but yet again, we couldn't hit against Santana! (that was KC's pitcher) The Rangers are 7 games behind Oakland to win the Division. Clearly we probably won't catch up to them, but we can still get a Wild Card spot if they ever start winning consistently!  Game 2 in KC is tomorrow night - Matt Garza is pitching for the Rangers!  Cheer Loudly!  GO COWBOYS!!! 12:00 PM - this Sunday - St. Louis Rams vs Dallas Cowboys.  Enjoy your family, friends and some football!!! :) "Day of Rest" Random Info: The two teams who have already secured a spot in the Playoffs are:  ~ Boston Red Sox (we used to have Mike Napoli  - he is a great Home Run hitter and now plays for Boston... his beard fits in perfectly there)  ~ LA Dodgers (We like their Manager - Don Mattingly  - he used to play for the NY Yankees back in the day!)  ...
