Week 17: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles ~ Mavs ~ College Bowl Games ~ Happy New Year

GO COWBOYS!!! 13-2
Tied for 1st in the NFL with the NE Patriots (league)
1st in the NFC (conference)
1st in the NFC EAST (division)
Sunday, January 1st
Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles
12:00 Noon CST on FOX

This is the last week of the Regular Season, and the Cowboys are looking to win their 14th game! I'm still in disbelief! Not that a regular season record means that much, the New England Patriots were undefeated in 2008, 16-0, and lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants. Those darn Giants; they keep coming out of nowhere.

Speaking of the Giants, since the Cowboys lost to the Giants in Week 14, Dak Prescott has completed 47 of 56 pass attempts, for 491 yards, 3 TD's (touchdowns) and ZERO interceptions. Nice comeback kid!

If the Cowboys win on Sunday, and Prescott plays a few downs, he will set a Rookie record winning his 14th game of the season.

The Game Sunday...

This game has more pride associated to it as opposed to the need to win. The Eagles are our division rival. They also have really rough fans... boo Santa, throw trash on the field, etc. Think Toronto Blue Jays fans, very similar.

Even though the Eagles are out of the race for the playoffs, basically their season is over; they will still want to beat us and we want to beat them!

We also need to keep our momentum going since we're headed into a BYE week next week in the First Round of the Playoffs.

I bet Jerry is sad we didn't play both rounds so he could make more money. (Tickets are crazy expensive, so looks like I'll be watching the game from my living room).

Who is starting for the Cowboys?

Most teams who make the playoffs early and don't need to win the last game of the season, will sit their starting players and play the guys on the bench.

You can expect our starting corp that you've seen all season to start this game vs. the Eagles, in Philly! It will be good for Dak to play in this environment, but there is no need for him to play the whole game. Mark Sanchez is expected to play QB, yes, he is on our team. And the weirdest part is, we've heard over and over that Romo won't play this week... then last night I had a dream that Romo was going to play Sunday... and I woke up to an ESPN alert at 7:13 AM today saying that Romo will get a few snaps Sunday. Kind of crazy! But it will make for a very interesting game!!

Here is the Playoff picture... I may have planned a ski trip around these games. I can't stand being out of the city while they're playing in the Playoffs!

GO MAVS!!! 10-23 (wins - losses)

The Mavs came off of an all time low against the Houston Rockets Tuesday night, to come back and beat the LA Lakers Thursday night, 101-89.

Matthews had 20 points, Robinson had 10 rebounds and D. Will had 11 assists.

Despite only having 10 wins, they are actually fun to watch! I like the players we have, we just need them all to be on at the same time. Play Defense. And don't play dirty! It's not our style.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Is anyone else annoyed that players are sitting out Bowl games because they don't want to get injured? Maybe that's just me?

A lot of games have been played and more are being played... here's the schedule and a link to the rest of the dates and times!

The CFB CHAMPIONSHIP Game is on Monday, January 9th at 7 PM (aka, I have plans that night).

Random Info:
What is your word for the year?

You can make a list of things to do differently or better in 2017...

~ eat clean
~ exercise more
~ cut out high fructose corn syrup
~ get more sleep
~ smile more
~ laugh more
~ get out of debt
~ go to the Super Bowl (directly off-sets "get out of debt")
~ work with purpose
~ love people well
~ not have any medical procedures

But one powerful thing you can do is choose a word for the year...

Humility
Joy
Hope
Faithful
Family
Surrender
Patience

I'm not sure what my word is yet, but I know that it has been helpful to have a reminder of what is truly important in life. More than just tangible items or goals.

Sadly, the resolutions we set for the year may or may not be accomplished... but last year, the word I chose was a steady reminder of where my hope is and who I believe in to change my life and my circumstances. God is faithful, and I am looking forward to every day I am given in 2017.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

Rangers lose Game 1

GO RANGERS!!! Rangers lose to the Kansas City Royals, 2-1. Their pitching was spectacular. Our pitching wasn't too bad, but yet again, we couldn't hit against Santana! (that was KC's pitcher) The Rangers are 7 games behind Oakland to win the Division. Clearly we probably won't catch up to them, but we can still get a Wild Card spot if they ever start winning consistently!  Game 2 in KC is tomorrow night - Matt Garza is pitching for the Rangers!  Cheer Loudly!  GO COWBOYS!!! 12:00 PM - this Sunday - St. Louis Rams vs Dallas Cowboys.  Enjoy your family, friends and some football!!! :) "Day of Rest" Random Info: The two teams who have already secured a spot in the Playoffs are:  ~ Boston Red Sox (we used to have Mike Napoli  - he is a great Home Run hitter and now plays for Boston... his beard fits in perfectly there)  ~ LA Dodgers (We like their Manager - Don Mattingly  - he used to play for the NY Yankees back in the day!)  ...
