Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo ~ Texas Rangers Win Streak ~ College Gameday ~ Sunshine and Rain

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

This is it. Your life for the next 4 1/2 months is officially occupied. You can continue to be social, it's the polite thing to do. However, I do not judge those who have the Watch ESPN app and use it regularly.

Remember, I attended the University of North Texas. Yes, I believe God allowed that to happen so I would study and get a degree. Had I gone to a school with more of a sports scene, it would not have been good. Caw Caw. #MeanGreen

Wear your colors this weekend!! #CollegeColors

My tradition, as I've mentioned before, is French Toast, bacon and College Gameday, every Saturday morning. As soon as the temperature drops; I will have all windows open, candles burning, slippers on and a warm plate in my hands, while crying during emotional segments on College Gameday, and then yelling at my TV during intense games. So good.

What is your tradition??

Here is a link to all games this weekend.

It will be too late by the time you read this, but Appalachian State is having deja vu - they went into overt-time with Tennessee and almost won! It would have been fun to see an upset like they did in 2007 vs. Michigan

Appalachian State is a school, similar to University of North Texas, where more prominent football schools pay their athletic program thousands of dollars to travel and play them and "lose." Coaches still prepare their teams, but not like they would if they were playing Alabama or Oklahoma. Kind of sad, but it's a thing in sports.

COWBOYS

Tony Romo is injured. I'm sure you've read that by now. This short article has a great recap on the timeline of Romo's injury. This is not the same injury he's had before. The bone in his back has to heal. Most of the injuries he's suffered he can go the Jason Witten route and play through the pain. But not a back injury and not when you're talking about your life after football.

The one really cool thing that Romo did get to do this week was speak to the High School kids at the church I attend (click for article). It is nice to know that even when he's not the QB for the Cowboys, he will still have great purpose in life and won't let this define him. I'm not a professional athlete and hate being injured. So to see him do this in one of the toughest weeks of his life... pretty awesome. High-five Romo! Here's a short podcast with Romo on football and faith

Still... we like to watch football... especially the Cowboys!

Announcement: Pre-season is officially over! I'm already worn-out with injuries!

We lost. It's okay. Dak Prescott did not play, our new starting QB. Dez didn't play. And our new Running Back, Ezekiel Elliott did not play. So Brandon Weeden took our lunch money and beat us 28-17.

Just kidding.

But the coaching staff and ownership have some serious decisions to make to get to a 53 man roster by mid-day Saturday.

There are still a lot of questions on Defense, especially with the Safety position. And the Cowboys are still interviewing veteran Quarterbacks. Jameill Showers started the game Thursday night vs. the Texans. He went 10 for 25. Not the best stats, but he did have one TD pass to Darius Jackson. A rookie from Eastern Michigan.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out Saturday! Best of luck fellas!

WARNING***WARNING***WARNING
It's all football from here on out. And playoff baseball. I'm aware that Hockey starts somewhere in October. The Dallas Stars are going to be great again this year, so I'll do my best folks.

GO RANGERS!!! 80-54
1st in AL (We're 3 games ahead of the Cleveland Indians)
2nd in MLB (6 games behind Chicago Cubs in 1st)

There are 28 games left in the season. You read that correctly, in order to win 100 games, we can only lose 8 more.

The Rangers have won 6 of their last 7 games, at home.

We have not had a winning season like this since 2012. Not that long ago, but going to the World Series in 2010 and 2011, without winning the pennant... then to make another run in 2012 and still fail... there is a hunger in these guys like never before!

***Disclaimer: to all of my friends, the Rangers are going to the playoffs, they will make it to the World Series, if I have plans with you in October or the first week of November, they are now tentative. But I love you, you know this.***

If you're old enough to remember the movies Angels in the Outfield, The Natural, Sandlot... that's how it feels sometimes with this Rangers team...

(dream music ~ white clouds around the screen below ~ based on a true story)

Yu Darvish starts off the night with 4 hits and no runs scored through the 4th inning.
We have a solo HR by Beltre and an RBI by Ian Desmond, scoring Mazara.
We're up 0-2.
Top of the 5th, Yu gets a little shaky, allows 2 earned runs and finally gets out of the inning with a double play by Andrus and Odor. Solo HR by Moreland. We're up 2-3. Then the next two batters strikeout looking.
Top of the 6th. Darvish allows 2 more runs, one being a HR. We're down 4-3.
Scoreless until the bottom of the 8th. Lucroy gets on base, Odor gets up to bat and gets on with an error. Two men on. Gomez comes up to bat, a guy who was hitting .209 when we acquired him from the Astros. Knock... silence.... out number three. Still 4-3.
Top of the 9th. Dyson comes in, yes, in a save situation, and gets 3 up 3 down, but still allowed the bases to get loaded, because clearly that is what good closers do.
Bottom of the 9th. Andrus gets on base. Beltran is up to bat... knock... walk-off home run!!! No more innings to play! Lights shatter as in "The Natural" and you high-five every stranger jumping and screaming around you!

I was at the game Friday night when the Cleveland Indians whooped us 12-1. Sometimes, Martin Perez and Derek Holland don't perform that well when our offense doesn't give them run support. I tend to be at those games. IT'S NOT MY FAULT!!!

However, I was also at the game Monday night... where Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners, 3-6 with Darvish on the mound. It was a fun game to watch... similar to the game I described above, but had a switch-handed pitcher in it.

What? What is a switch-handed pitcher? You've heard of a switch-handed batter, switch-hit for short. This is when a batter can bat from the left or right side of the plate with equal power. There are 38 in the league this year. Most notably: Coco Crisp, Carlos Beltran, Pablo Sandoval, Carlos Santana (not the guitarist), Chase Headley, Melky Cabrera, and the soon to be retired Mark Teixeira (former Ranger).

But what about switch-handed pitchers?? Greg Harris is one of the only other pitchers to pitch with both arms in a game.

The guy we saw Monday night was impressive! Pat Venditte. He was drafted by the Yankees in 2008 and ended up with the Mariners in 2016. He doesn't have the best ERA, 6.23. But he is fun to watch. His glove fits both hands. Mind blown.

Adrian Beltre had a good laugh with him... the pitcher has to declare before the batter gets in the batters box which arm he is pitching with. Beltre, who bats right, stood on the left side to see if that would mess him up. He also had his helmet on backwards. Ha!

On a serious note, I feel like Scott Servais, the Mariners Manger (Skipper, as some would say), needed to give this guy more guidance. He pitched right to right-handed batters and left to left-handed batters. Had they done their research, you pitch a guy like Mitch Moreland from the right side, even though he's a lefty because his batting percentage is better vs. left-handed pitchers. But who am I? Just a fan. Go Rangers!

Random Info:
As I was rushing home from work today, like most days feel. Going from one thing to the next. One of my favorite sky moments happened...

"The sun was shining and the road kept winding, through the prettiest country from Richardson to Plano..." not exactly how the Keith Urban song goes, but I tried... listen.

The sun was out and... it was raining!!

I love rain!!! Not in a piña colada song kind of way, or maybe? #classic

All I know is I'm driving in the Jeep, puffy blue and white clouds with beams of light shining down, and rain pouring. How fun?!?!? I love it!! Made me want to go run in it.

I pull in, get out of the Jeep, start walking, in the rain, slowly, towards the stairs of my apt... stop... in the rain... I see a GIANT rainbow due North. What??? It got even better y'all! My little camera on my Samsung Galaxy s5 does not do it justice. But here it is! I hope it makes you SMILE!

HOW COOL IS THIS??? God is awesome!!

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn

Week 11: Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ Mavs ~ Gift Guide for Black Friday

GO COWBOYS!!! 8-1 1st in the NFL (I've died and gone to Heaven) 1st in the NFC EAST Sunday, November 20th Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys  (home team is second) 12:00 PM CST on CBS First things first... the Cowboys are playing amazing football right now! Even sportscasters who don't like the Cowboys can't stop talking about them.  I mentioned last week that we are the most balanced team in the league. When your Offense and Defense share an even amount of time on the field, it is easier to stay fresh and productive. If you leave your D out there too long, they're bound to make mistakes. So even with our Offense being as productive as they are, they are still staying on the field long enough to keep it balanced.  The Cowboys have a total of 219 first downs this season and lead the league at Offensive time of possession, 33:39 minutes ( an NFL football game is made up of 4 quarters, 15 minutes each, a total of 60 minutes ).  Ton

POSTSEASON BASEBALL: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Texas Rangers ~ Baseball Etiquette ~ Dallas Cowboys Over-reaction Tuesday

GO RANGERS !!! ALDS PLAYOFFS - THIS THURSDAY It's official... we are playing the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS.  Dang it.  I can't stand the Blue Jays. They have trashy fans. No, literally, they throw trash on the field .  And Jose Bautista is a punk. No one needs your bat flippin' drama!  And we all remember this... Odor punching Bautista earlier this year. Watch . All the sports people are going to have a field day over this. I bet they wish they had given us the evening time slots now! Except that Toronto's TV ratings don't count, eh?  How we win... stay focused. Eliminate the drama. We beat them during the regular season. We can do it again. No hitting batters, no one getting ejected. We need our entire roster in the ALCS. We need to play Texas Ranger baseball. Period. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Games 1 and 2 are this Thursday at 3:30 PM and Friday at Noon in Arlington, TX. Games 3 and 4 are Sunday and Monday in Toronto.   No,
