Super Bowl 50 ~ Dallas Mavs ~ Dallas Cowboys

SUPER BOWL 50!!!
The Super Bowl... biggest game of the year... is this SUNDAY, February 7th, 5:35 PM CST

Denver Broncos vs. Carolina Panthers

Peyton Manning (Denver QB
vs.
Cam Newton (Carolina QB)

10 things you need to know...

1. Peyton Manning has been in the NFL for 18 years. Rumor has it he may retire after this game... ride off into the sunset... most people want him to win because of this.
2. Cam Newton has been in the NFL for 5 years. Started out as a slightly cocky rookie... but has definitely earned his place in the books this year! p.s. He's close friends with Steph Curry
3. The Carolina Panthers record this season was 15-1... that's one loss.
4. Denver's Defense had 52 Sacks (thanks to DeMarcus Ware), 14 interceptions and 13 recovered fumbles. All against QB's that were mostly pocket QB's. Newton is not a pocket QB.
5. Carolina's Offense is explosive. They typically have two running backs on each play, along with a QB who likes to run, at 6'5", 245lbs (not exactly Russell Wilson coming at ya).
6. Jared Allen is still playing in the NFL. Dude was with Minnesota forever and must have gotten Brett Favre fever. He can't seem to leave the game and may just win a Super Bowl ring! Crazier things have happened. Poor Tiki Barber
7. DeMarcus Ware played with the Dallas Cowboys for 9 seasons and spent the last two in Denver. Gosh I miss this guy. He is an outstanding player and person. He even mentioned he wished some of his Cowboys buddies were with him. I will be cheering him on, and if Denver wins... I'm happy for you, Sir!
8. There is always a concert in the middle of the game. I still think this is ridiculous. It's Coldplay and Beyonce this year. But, you can see them at their own concert. When is the last time you went to a concert and football was played at intermission? Or a pick up game of 5 on 5? See... silly. That is when I turn the channel and watch a basketball game or something.
9. The Super Bowl is in San Francisco. Where the 49ers play.
10. We all hope for a good game! Two outstanding Defenses. Peyton, a QB with the highest football IQ and the ability to pick apart Defenses. Cam, a QB with power, the deep ball and weapons to keep the D guessing. Denver got blown out in Super Bowl 48 by the Seattle Seahawks in 2013... 43-8. No one wants to see that. People stopped watching by the 3rd Qtr. Give us something to cheer for!!!

Lastly... Super Bowl Parties... why do people wait until the biggest game of the year to get a bunch of people together, who hardly watch football, ever, and expect this to be a good idea. I need to hear the commentators... not chit chat. There is a time and place... and from 5:30 PM on Sunday to 9 PM... small talk is on hold. Chips, Salsa, Dr Pepper and football are the only things I need for those few hours. Oh and yes... sometimes the commercials are funny. Last year they weren't.

Party on!

GO MAVS!!! 28-24

We're 6th in the Western Conference.
Which is the better of the two conferences... East and West.

Dirk's play has been intermittent the past few weeks... nagging knee injury. As of now, he's playing every other game, no games back-to-back. However, he's managed to stay in the headlines...

ESPN ranked him as the 17th best player in NBA history. He's played 18 years in the league and has the 6th most points of all time. Here is the full article... read on

And Kareem Abdul-Jabbar called Dirk a "one trick pony" ~ Chandler Parsons didn't like that statement... he's quoted in this article... read on

As for Chandler Parsons... and his game, dude is on fire!! Not Steph Curry kind of fire, that dude is in a league of his own, but keeping our team in the race kind of fire! He's made 47% of shots he takes, while only playing 27 minutes per game (on avg). His career avg is 33 min per game... not too far off from 100% healthy! I know Carlisle benched him against Miami... not sure why, but hopefully Parsons isn't too frustrated and keeps his head in the game vs. the Spurs.

Deron Williams is back in the game Friday night vs. the Spurs. Dirk will play too... full force to get the W before the All-Star break! #gametime #mffl

GO COWBOYS!!!
OFF-SEASON

So, it's the off-season... but it doesn't mean the cowboys aren't reflecting, re-arranging and planning for next year.

Rumor has it that Dez tweeted to DeMarco Murray about coming back to Dallas... Murray shut down the rumors... but we all still wish we had kept him last year and used him while Romo and Dez were out. But, you can't go back.

Tony Romo is opting out of surgery!! Good for Romo! If you can avoid surgery... you should... football player or not. There is still a chance he has surgery for his collarbone, but we're not going to know for another 4 weeks. Stay tuned...

Either way, we need a back-up QB in the Draft. Please no Johnny Manziel or RGIII. I'll keep Kellen Moore and hinge our bets on free agency or the draft.

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

Rangers lose Game 1

GO RANGERS!!! Rangers lose to the Kansas City Royals, 2-1. Their pitching was spectacular. Our pitching wasn't too bad, but yet again, we couldn't hit against Santana! (that was KC's pitcher) The Rangers are 7 games behind Oakland to win the Division. Clearly we probably won't catch up to them, but we can still get a Wild Card spot if they ever start winning consistently!  Game 2 in KC is tomorrow night - Matt Garza is pitching for the Rangers!  Cheer Loudly!  GO COWBOYS!!! 12:00 PM - this Sunday - St. Louis Rams vs Dallas Cowboys.  Enjoy your family, friends and some football!!! :) "Day of Rest" Random Info: The two teams who have already secured a spot in the Playoffs are:  ~ Boston Red Sox (we used to have Mike Napoli  - he is a great Home Run hitter and now plays for Boston... his beard fits in perfectly there)  ~ LA Dodgers (We like their Manager - Don Mattingly  - he used to play for the NY Yankees back in the day!)  ...
