Week 9: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ Dallas Mavericks ~ Veterans Day

GO COWBOYS!!! 2-5 (wins - losses)

Sunday, November 8th
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys (home team is second)
7:30 PM CST on NBC

Welcome to Dallas, Philly.

When we had Romo... we won in Week 1 vs. the New York Giants (in our Conference, NFC East). In Week 2, we defeated the Philadelphia Eagles (also in our Conference) in Philly!

Since Romo has been out, we have lost 5 straight games. 3 games with Brandon Weeden behind Center and 2 games with Matt Cassel in the QB slot. And this is with the "best O-Line in the NFL." (not anymore...)

If we had the Defense we have this year with the Offense we had last year... dang... we'd be good!

But, we don't.

Life happens. Injuries happen.

************

The Eagles have lost 4 games... coming into Dallas hungry for their 4th win to bat .500 and have a chance at catching the Giants who are sitting in First in the NFC East with a 4-4 record.

The Redskins are limping along with the Eagles at 3-4. Then the unexpected Cowboys... 2-5. Sigh. This division is not lining up to how we all thought! But, neither is the NFL. Injuries to starters are at an all time high this season. If you play Fantasy Football, you're fully aware.

************

This is DeMarco Murray's first time back in Dallas since leaving the team (or since Stephen and Jerry let him leave). He seems to have found his groove in Philly, and I'm sure he is looking forward to destroying our defense, with all due respect, of course

He may be able to run on us, but our secondary is holding their own! I went crazy when we acquired Byron Jones, as a Defensive Back, in the 2015 NFL Draft. This was the kid who set records in the combine and seems to be a humble dude, just doing his job! He has 26 tackles, 4 Defended Passes, and matched New England and Seattle's WR Corps as well as any veteran on our team! Despite our dismal record, I hope this kid gets Rookie of the Year

************

Sam Bradford is the QB for Philly. He played for USC in College. If you haven't seen the 30 for 30 called Trojan War, this links to it! It is really good!!
(For you UT fans... it recaps the Championship game from 2006 at the Rose Bowl). #glorydays #bevo

Bottom Line... Dez Bryant returned last week against Seattle. He seemed to be running fine, but couldn't get anything going with Cassel. Overall, our team struggled. We have to eliminate turnovers, but that typically comes from having chemistry, and it's hard to have chemistry with a QB that's been in your scheme for 3 weeks. None the less, we will strive to overcome and will do everything in our Offensive and Defensive power to defeat the Eagles. This is one of our biggest rivals, and rival games always take on a momentum of their own! If we are up at the end of the second quarter... I say we win this game!

Injuries... Everyone. Kidding. Tony Romo. Brice Butler. Barry Church. For the EAGLES... Ryan Matthews has a groin injury, which means we'll see a lot more of DeMarco Murray

Fantasy Football... Greg Olsen was the best waiver pick up I've had all season. Right now, everyone is on BYE and it's getting dicey. I'm losing horribly in my family league, but am sitting at 6-2 in my work league. I'm okay with that. #braggingrights

GO MAVS!!! 3-3

The Mavs have had a little momentum in their first few games! With the likes of Deron Williams beating the Pelicans with a few jump shots, and Dirk Nowitzki already averaging 17 ppg at the spry age of 37, we are getting off to a decent start!

Chandler Parsons. Very few details, but we know he had surgery on his right knee this off-season, for a hybrid microfracture... something to do with cartilage. #notadoctor

They tried playing him in two games, for 15 minutes each. This is not working so well. He is on a sever restriction with playing time and it will be day to day for at least another month, from what the reports are saying.

As long as we have him back before the All-Star Break and then fully after... I think we'll be fine!

(Dirk is basically the Peyton Manning of the Dallas Mavericks... and I think we're all fine with that)!

Random Info:
Veterans Day is coming up... Wednesday, November 11th, 2015.

If you don't know the history of this day, please read it by clicking on this link

Is it bad that I am kind of glad it's not on a Monday, so it isn't used as a BBQ holiday? However, it is mid-week, so it will most likely be blown by as another work day.

But, I ask of you to stop... to remember and to honor all of our Veterans. Military, Policeman, Fireman, any Service Man or Woman that you know or don't know. If you're in the airport Wednesday (or any day) and you see a person in uniform, or with a hat on from WWII, or a bag with them that says Air Force, please shake their hand. Have your kids shake their hand. Look them in the eyes and tell them Thank You.

My Uncle Greg, and both of my Grandfathers served our great country in the service. Sadly, they are no longer here with us to hug them or shake their hands. They are all in Heaven, with many other men and women who served along side them in duty and in life. I am so thankful for them and their courage and character. They ARE all amazing men, and I am proud of each one of them!

I am disheartened; however, that our country spends so much time talking about celebrity junk, political junk and flashing horrifying photos of Greg Hardy's girlfriend, after he abused and beat her. Photos aren't needed. We know what happened. And yet, it is all anyone can talk about.

Yes, action needs to be taken or should have been in the first place, but the photos I want to see on my TV and on my Internet are some of these...

I don't always know their names, but I pray for them. I hope you do too.

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

Rangers lose Game 1

GO RANGERS!!! Rangers lose to the Kansas City Royals, 2-1. Their pitching was spectacular. Our pitching wasn't too bad, but yet again, we couldn't hit against Santana! (that was KC's pitcher) The Rangers are 7 games behind Oakland to win the Division. Clearly we probably won't catch up to them, but we can still get a Wild Card spot if they ever start winning consistently!  Game 2 in KC is tomorrow night - Matt Garza is pitching for the Rangers!  Cheer Loudly!  GO COWBOYS!!! 12:00 PM - this Sunday - St. Louis Rams vs Dallas Cowboys.  Enjoy your family, friends and some football!!! :) "Day of Rest" Random Info: The two teams who have already secured a spot in the Playoffs are:  ~ Boston Red Sox (we used to have Mike Napoli  - he is a great Home Run hitter and now plays for Boston... his beard fits in perfectly there)  ~ LA Dodgers (We like their Manager - Don Mattingly  - he used to play for the NY Yankees back in the day!)  ...
