Dallas Cowboys Week 5 Preview

GO COWBOYS!!!

The Cowboys are 2-2... (Wins are always the first number - Losses are the 2nd number)

Week 5 Matchup: Denver Broncos vs. Dallas Cowboys (in Dallas - since they're team is listed 2nd... remember...) - GAME TIME 3:25 PM CST

If you read my post from Over-reaction Monday - Week 2, you would see how much I enjoy watching Peyton Manning. He is the QB for the Denver Broncos. This is only his second year playing for Denver. He spent 14 years with the Indianapolis Colts (13 playing years). Then the Colts drafted Rookie QB Andrew Luck in 2012 with their 1st pick. This was the Colts way of getting out of their allegiance with Manning, since he's aging and all. Manning sat out the entire 2011 season after having neck surgery. All this to say, he is on a quest. A quest for not only greatness, he's already achieved that, but a Championship. He has one Super Bowl title with the Colts, and seems to be determined to win one with the Broncos, which is completely in his reach.

You're probably wondering why I went on about a guy who doesn't play for the Cowboys. Well... that was to set the stage for the fact that we are up against a beast of a team! (And, when you watch the game for so long, you end up admiring the ability of individual players!)

~ Our Defense can NOT play like they did last week against San Diego. We will have to be perfect at defending the passing (throwing) game, and put as much pressure on Manning and his Offensive Line as possible. He lost his Right Tackle (big guy who stays in-front of Manning and blocks while he tries to throw the ball) to an injury two weeks ago. DeMarcus Ware should be able to maximize on any areas of weakness... we hope!

~ Our Secondary (these are the guys who cover/guard the Wide Receivers on the Offense) - they have not been so good. Morris Claiborne (dude we traded up in the draft for last year) hasn't performed up to par this season! This game would be the perfect time for Claiborne to be the "super-star" we hoped he would be, and the amazing Cornerback he was at LSU!

~ Our Offense... Tony Romo (QB)... remember that guy... well he needs to have a lot of protection from our Offensive Line this week. The Denver Defense is rated 30th (out of 32 teams) against the pass. (this means they're terrible when the offensive team throws the ball) If our line can block for Romo, he should have ample time to throw the ball. The only thing hurting us in this scenario is our WR options. Miles Austin is hurt, which leaves Romo with two "go-to" guys... Dez Bryant (WR) and Jason Witten (TE). Denver's D is ranked 1st in the league against the run (they're amazing at shutting down Running Backs). DeMarco Murray (RB) will not have a record setting game.

Either way - this game should be great! So rep your Dallas Cowboys Gear and support your team!

**With the Rangers out of the race for the Playoffs, you have a little more free time to enjoy football!! The weather will be perfect this Sunday for the roof to be open! If you're going to the game, I am jealous. That's all.**

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

The Masters, in all its beauty ~ Texas Rangers ~ Dallas Mavs ~ Get Outside

The Masters The ultimate Bucket List item and one of the ones that exceeded my expectations. If you play golf, have a family member who makes you watch golf or take naps to golf, you understand that The Masters is the holy grail of golf tournaments. It is the only PGA tournament that is played in the same location every year, Augusta, Georgia.  Thanks to very dear friends of mine, I had the chance to walk through the azaleas, experience the serenity of Amen Corner and watch the players skip golf balls across the water at Hole 16. If they allowed people to sleep on the grass, I would have stayed forever.  We were there for two days of practice rounds, which is fun because the players are relaxed and cut up with one another. They cancelled the Par 3 Contest, which was sad, but just being there was the most wonderful feeling ever. You can't take phones in, so I even called my parents from the phones at Augusta, just to do so. We also didn't realize you could bring in a real camer...
