2013 Texas Rangers Eulogy

GO RANGERS!!!

Last night was the end of the Texas Rangers 2013 Season. With a tie-breaker game as their 163 game (162 games are normal regulation for baseball) - they lost it all.

It all started with the inconsistent calls by umpire Jeff Kellogg. This man is the guy who stood behind home plate and called a "strike" for David Price (pitcher for Tampa Bay) and for any of our 6 pitchers we put in the game, he would call the same pitch a "ball." David Price pitched the whole game for the Rays... why not... he could throw dirt up to the plate and it would have been called a strike.

The Rangers couldn't get their bats going, and most of them were quite frustrated at the plate! They tried to argue with Mr. Kellogg, but nothing worked. We were doomed.

More importantly, we shouldn't have been in a tie-breaker situation to begin with! We shouldn't have lost the first two weeks of September with the talent we have on our team. This is our second year trying to take advantage of the new "wild-card" system and quite frankly it sucks! I'd rather get in or not get in!

Starting today, big changes should come for our organization...

~ Sadly, I believe they will trade David Murphy (he was an outfielder with the best walk-up song ever!! check it)

~ Nelson Cruz came back from his 50 game steroid suspension last night, only to go 0-4 (means he did NOTHING in 4 at bats). He is a free agent this year and will most likely be traded. (free agent - means his contract is up and the Rangers would have to pay up if they want to keep him)

~ Our Pitching situation gets a bit muddy as we get into the off-season. I just want to make sure they keep Nathan. Scheppers did a decent job last night closing too, but Nathan seems to put a little more fear in the batters! I also hope they keep Derek Holland, but that's because he's funny and good!

Well, it was a decent ride. We swept the Astros and Angels to get to last night's game... and now it doesn't mean anything. This is sports. It's all about the race... not just the finish.

2014 could be our year! I will be buying my season tickets again, in hopes that it's the year we WIN the World Series! If you don't start a season believing you can, then what's the point? :)

Random Info:
~ Monday Night Football last night... Drew Brees (QB for New Orleans Saints) is a total beast! He is one of the classiest dudes you'll ever meet and he threw for 413 yards and 4 TD's. This dude is legit! I will never fully cheer for the Saints, but I will cheer for Drew Brees!

  1. Lindsey, I'm genuinely sorry the Rangers lost last night and that they were dealt a tough hand with the umpire :( After reading ALL of your blog posts, I was really rooting for the Rangers!! (yes, all the way from Indiana and without having seen ANY of their games because we don't have cable tv :) I appreciate your maturity and graciousness in dealing with the loss (I'm being serious here!) --it's a great example of healthy sportsmanship!

Please keep blogging!! It's so much fun to hear your perspective and to learn all the "random" sports anecdotes you share. This sports girl next door in Indiana is always thanking God for making you just as He so marvelously did :) Now THAT's worth celebrating EVERY DAY, regardless of who takes the Pennant, wins the Super Bowl or is crowned the NBA champ. :)

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

The Masters, in all its beauty ~ Texas Rangers ~ Dallas Mavs ~ Get Outside

The Masters The ultimate Bucket List item and one of the ones that exceeded my expectations. If you play golf, have a family member who makes you watch golf or take naps to golf, you understand that The Masters is the holy grail of golf tournaments. It is the only PGA tournament that is played in the same location every year, Augusta, Georgia.  Thanks to very dear friends of mine, I had the chance to walk through the azaleas, experience the serenity of Amen Corner and watch the players skip golf balls across the water at Hole 16. If they allowed people to sleep on the grass, I would have stayed forever.  We were there for two days of practice rounds, which is fun because the players are relaxed and cut up with one another. They cancelled the Par 3 Contest, which was sad, but just being there was the most wonderful feeling ever. You can't take phones in, so I even called my parents from the phones at Augusta, just to do so. We also didn't realize you could bring in a real camer...

Week 11: Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ Mavs ~ Gift Guide for Black Friday

GO COWBOYS!!! 8-1 1st in the NFL (I've died and gone to Heaven) 1st in the NFC EAST Sunday, November 20th Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys  (home team is second) 12:00 PM CST on CBS First things first... the Cowboys are playing amazing football right now! Even sportscasters who don't like the Cowboys can't stop talking about them.  I mentioned last week that we are the most balanced team in the league. When your Offense and Defense share an even amount of time on the field, it is easier to stay fresh and productive. If you leave your D out there too long, they're bound to make mistakes. So even with our Offense being as productive as they are, they are still staying on the field long enough to keep it balanced.  The Cowboys have a total of 219 first downs this season and lead the league at Offensive time of possession, 33:39 minutes ( an NFL football game is made up of 4 quarters, 15 minutes each, a total of 60 minutes ).  ...
