Dallas Cowboys Preview Week 7

GO COWBOYS!!!

Week 7 Matchup: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles (in Philly - since they're the 1st team listed) - GAME TIME - Sunday, NOON CST

If you read this blog, you've heard me add random phrases here and there regarding the Philadelphia Eagles. I put a link on one blog, reminding or informing you that their fans booed Santa Claus, boo their own players (which is why I am not a fan of those of you who booed Josh Hamilton when he was still a Texas Ranger), and most importantly - they booed Michael Irvin (one of the greatest WR's for Dallas and in the NFL!!) as he was carried off the field on a stretcher in 1999 - season ending injury. There are youtube video's out there, but it's too painful to link you too them; search at your own risk. I remember watching this happen on TV with my whole family in the TV room and tears in our eyes. Needless to say, Philly fans aren't my favorite, nor their team. I have a story about Eagles fans at the first NFL draft I attended... if you care to hear about that, let me know!

Philly's Info...

So, the game. Philly is a mess right now. Michael Vick (their QB) is injured. You probably heard about this guy and dog fights years ago. Everyone is able to be forgiven. So the dude plays ball again, but is injured and out of the picture. They have a 2nd year QB as the backup - Nick Foles. I could go into detail about this kid, but all you need to know is that he was able to whoop-up on Tampa Bay last week and the NY Giants the week before. Not saying we can't hold him, but he is throwing to one of the best WR's in the league... DeSean Jackson. (I refuse to draft Eagles players in my Fantasy Football leagues, but this year it would have helped to have that guy).

Cowboy's Info...

We have some injuries... killin' us!

~ DeMarcus Ware - our Defensive End - has a quad injury. He is most likely out for the Eagles game, but let's hope he can recover soon! And two other DE's are out as well!

~ DeMarco Murray - our RB - he has a sprained MCL (part of the knee). So, there goes our Running Back, out for this week too. Lance Dunbar - our backup RB - is also out due to injury.

Who needs to step up?

~ Joseph Randle - rookie RB from Oklahoma State - many of my relatives are OSU fans/alumni! We've heard about this guy for a few years and the Cowboys drafted him last year. Now's your time son, make us proud and don't fumble the ball! ("fumble" - when the RB or player with possession of the football drops it and the other teams defense recovers it)

~ Our Entire Offense! Our Defense has taken some hits with all of our DE's being out with injuries. We have new guys on our D and a new RB this week. We need Tony Romo (QB), Jason Witten (TE), Dez Bryant (WR) and our entire O-line to show some heart! Don't leave our Defense on the field too long, they will get worn down. Romo needs to put some points on the board with his arm or he'll be putting a lot of pressure on Randle to perform.

Standings... We are tied, 3-3 with the Eagles in the NFC East. The teams we've lost to so far are the KC Chiefs (6 Wins - 0 Losses), San Diego Chargers (3-3) and the Denver Broncos (Peyton Manning-0). I'm okay with these losses so far. If we lose to the Eagles, we start biting our nails and rubbing a bald man's head - we CAN'T lose to the Eagles! :) We got this!

Random Info:
~ I mentioned the word "fumble" earlier. In case you don't really understand what that means, here is a video clip of Lawrence Taylor. One of the greatest Linebacker's ever to play the game! He caused a LOT of fumbles! Enjoy...

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

The Masters, in all its beauty ~ Texas Rangers ~ Dallas Mavs ~ Get Outside

The Masters The ultimate Bucket List item and one of the ones that exceeded my expectations. If you play golf, have a family member who makes you watch golf or take naps to golf, you understand that The Masters is the holy grail of golf tournaments. It is the only PGA tournament that is played in the same location every year, Augusta, Georgia.  Thanks to very dear friends of mine, I had the chance to walk through the azaleas, experience the serenity of Amen Corner and watch the players skip golf balls across the water at Hole 16. If they allowed people to sleep on the grass, I would have stayed forever.  We were there for two days of practice rounds, which is fun because the players are relaxed and cut up with one another. They cancelled the Par 3 Contest, which was sad, but just being there was the most wonderful feeling ever. You can't take phones in, so I even called my parents from the phones at Augusta, just to do so. We also didn't realize you could bring in a real camer...
