Dallas Cowboys Preview Week 12 ~ MAVS ~ Rangers

GO COWBOYS!!!

Week 12 Matchup: Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants (in New York - since they're the 2nd team listed) - GAME TIME - Sunday, 3:25 PM CST

New York... New York... oh how I miss New York! So, I've mentioned before that I lived there for a while... back in my mid 20's... gosh I sound old. Anyhow, it is a wonderful city!! Giants fans are better than Jets fans, but can still be annoying with the accents and chants. The worst is J-E-T-S, jets, jets, jets!

So we're playing the Giants this week... again. If you remember we played them the first week of the season and won! Big! (Here's the preview from that week.) Dallas is coming off a BYE week. (The week where we don't play - we get a vacation... from losing).

~ The most annoying thing about the Giants right now is they have won 4 games in a row. And that Eli Manning is their QB (this is Peyton Manning's little brother... remember... the dude I raved about from the Denver Broncos, formerly known as the Savior of Indianapolis...). Eli is semi-emotionless. He is a guy, I'm aware, but his expressions are extremely melancholy. Nothing wrong with that, just not as fiery as one would like in a QB. But, he has managed to defeat two teams with back-up QB's and two teams with starting QB's the past 4 weeks. Their Defense has shut down the running backs on those teams as well... good thing Dallas doesn't have a Run Game to shut down. (that was sarcasm, clearly I wish we had a Run Game!)

~ Their offense has one thing going for them, Victor Cruz. This kid is an amazing Wide Receiver... and Eli Manning loves him. Dallas' Defense will have to figure out how to shut down Cruz. Double team him or something. ("Double team" - have two defenders - secondary guys - covering the one player that is considered a bigger threat, aka all-star).

~ Dallas Defense - do you even want me to list the names of guys who are injured? To sound cool, just know that DeMarcus Ware is "probable" for Sunday's game. He is nursing a thigh injury... can't rush that. (Wait, isn't that what cryotherapy is for??) Anyway, Claiborne (cornerback, secondary guy) is still out, along with Sean Lee (linebacker... the linebacker that makes plays). There are more to name, but just know our roster depth is getting pretty thin. We have to shut down the passing game by Eli and his offense. Put pressure on Eli as he's throwing and get as many sacks/interceptions as possible. (Remember these terms... we've been over them... "sack" - when the defense tackles the QB while he is still holding the ball... "interception" - when the defense catches the ball throw by the opposing QB - the ball is now in the other teams possession).

~ Dallas Offense - A new found dislike for Jerry Jones sneaks into my heart every now and then. So sad. He may be a very nice man. I have never met him personally. However, when I see what he does and doesn't care about... it perplexes me. Our Offense could use a better receiver corps and definitely a better running back roster. Our Offensive Line is better this year than it has ever been, but still could have holes filled. Instead of our GM (General Manager - Jerry Jones, he's the Owner too) focusing on building the best team ever... he has a sky mirror installed for $14 million. Wise man. I'm all for art, but not sure it should trump funding your team. If you build it... they will come Jerry. Or, they will laugh and hope your son will be a better Owner than you are.

Bottom Line... this game is a must win. No if's and's or but's about it. This is it. Romo needs to be the Romo we saw in the Denver game and the first game against the Giants. "Romo, Romo, where for art thou Romo." (yes, that quote is from the Justin Timberlake song, I Love Sports. Our back up Defensive players need to play like their lives depend on it! And Dez Bryant needs to get a cortisone shot in his back and make a few more catches this week than he did in Week 10! (he only had one catch that game

Standings... we are sitting at 5-5 on the season. 6 games to go. The Philadelphia Eagles (ugh I hate typing those words) passed us last week for first place in our Division... they have a BYE this week. If the Giants beat us, we will be tied with them. We must win so we will be tied with the Eagles!

GO MAVS!!!

Mavs record is... 8-4... that's what I'm talkin' about!

~ We beat the Houston Rockets last night... Yup... take that Dwight Howard! (remember he's the guy who didn't want to come to Dallas!) Want to see the late comeback by the Mavs... watch...

Drik Nowitzki also passed Reggie Miller to move up to 15th on the All Time Scoring List!!! Dude is legit! You know who is also legit... Monte Ellis. Baller. Best move we could have ever made for our team! Dwight, who? :) Carter and Marion also played a role in shutting down Dwight... well played fellas... well played!

GO RANGERS!!!

~ Yesterday was an emotional day. Wait, why am I talking about the Texas Rangers, your baseball team, in November. Well, this is when deals are made. Players are evaluated for their value in the upcoming season. With Nolan Ryan out of our organization now... no player is safe. He and Wash (our Manager - Ron Washington) used to try to protect the players they liked and keep them. Last year it was Michael Young... this year it is Ian Kinsler and David Murphy

~ Most people won't care about Murph because they stopped playing him last year anyway. (rude - I loved Murph

~ Everyone is talking about Ian Kinsler... we traded him for Prince Fielder. Yes, his real name is Prince. Nelson Cruz is most likely not re-signing with the Rangers, so we needed a big bat. Josh Hamilton left us two years ago, he was another big bat. So now all we have is Beltre and the new addition of Fielder. Question... what will happen to Profar? JD supposedly loves him and will keep him as our baseball prodigy... we have his whole family in our farm system! Time will tell...

~ Anyway back to the trade... I'm not sure we won out on this one. We're paying a $138 million over the next 7 years for Fielder. His batting average in 2013 was .279. He hit 25 homers and had 106 RBI's. He is a left handed batter, which is easier to hit home runs at The Ballpark in Arlington. He's also the better version of a Manny Ramirez type player... not my fav, but I'm sure he can do something to help our team. (Let's just say he's the type of player that makes people think that Baseball Players aren't athletes). Kinsler is getting paid $62 million over the next 4 years in Detroit. No doubt his family will probably stay in TX - he loves it here, but sad he will have to relocate for the next few seasons. So, clearly I'm being a girl about this... because I am a girl... and I'm sad to see him leave.

~ If this is all too much info for you fans trying to learn about the game, just say... Jon Daniels is a man with a mission and I don't think anyone can get in his way.

Random Info:
~ We are quickly approaching Thanksgiving! Do not go watch the Turkey kids movie out right now if you want to know the meaning of this Holiday. (Save your kids and your money for Frozen!) But do make sure to spend time with your family! If there is a family member you don't get along with... maybe this is the year to forgive and move on?!?! Either way, make sure to spend time with people, eat good food and of course... WATCH FOOTBALL!!!!

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

The Masters, in all its beauty ~ Texas Rangers ~ Dallas Mavs ~ Get Outside

The Masters The ultimate Bucket List item and one of the ones that exceeded my expectations. If you play golf, have a family member who makes you watch golf or take naps to golf, you understand that The Masters is the holy grail of golf tournaments. It is the only PGA tournament that is played in the same location every year, Augusta, Georgia.  Thanks to very dear friends of mine, I had the chance to walk through the azaleas, experience the serenity of Amen Corner and watch the players skip golf balls across the water at Hole 16. If they allowed people to sleep on the grass, I would have stayed forever.  We were there for two days of practice rounds, which is fun because the players are relaxed and cut up with one another. They cancelled the Par 3 Contest, which was sad, but just being there was the most wonderful feeling ever. You can't take phones in, so I even called my parents from the phones at Augusta, just to do so. We also didn't realize you could bring in a real camer...

Week 13: Dallas Cowboys vs. Minnesota Vikings ~ NFC East ~ NFL logo quiz

GO COWBOYS!!! 10-1 1st in the NFL 1st in the NFC EAST Thursday, December 1st 7:25 PM CST on NBC We've NEVER won 10 consecutive games. Ever.  We lost our first game of the season to the New York Giants, by one point. And oddly enough, they are still the ghost we're trying to run away from and secure our playoff spot with only 5 Regular Season games left.  Here is what the NFC East looks like going into Week 13...  The Minnesota Vikings... what should we fear?  The Vikings are in the NFC North Division. They currently trail the Detroit Lions for a spot in the playoffs. They have only won 1 of their last 5 games, which makes this Thursday night, showtime game, a must win for the Vikings!  4-1 at home, The Vikings meet the Cowboys who are 5-0 on the road. Oh how I love those odds! Forever in our favor this season.  Quarterback situation. Sam Bradford is the starting QB for the Vikings. A guy they got in the o...
