GO COWBOYS!!!
Week 13 Matchup: Oakland Raiders vs. Dallas Cowboys (at Dallas, since they're the second team listed) Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) 3:30 PM
This Thursday is Thanksgiving!!! There are two teams who have historically played on Thanksgiving, the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions. Dallas played it's first Thanksgiving Day game in 1952 when they were the Dallas Texans. They played their first game as the Dallas Cowboys in 1966 and beat the Cleveland Browns 26-14. They have played in almost every Thanksgiving Day game since, along with the Lions. For the Cowboys, this was the Era of Tom Landry, 1960-1988. (Moment of silence please...)
Onto the game this week... do you even know who the Oakland Raiders are? Oakland is in California. The term Raiders is from an Indiana Jones movie, the one where they're looking for the ark? Kidding... I have no clue what it is from.
We played Oakland on Thanksgiving Day in 2009... we won.
The players on their team you should know about are...
~ Darren McFadden, this is their RB (Running Back). He has had a hamstring injury and sat out the past four games. He says he's ready to play against the Cowboys. We'll see about that. Even if he does play, our 3rd string D will be waiting for him!
~ Terrelle Pryor, this is Oakland's QB, he played college ball at Ohio State. This is his third season with Oakland. He is a bit banged up with a knee injury, and is the teams third leading rusher. ("rusher," what Running Backs do... they run the ball, which in the plural form is called "rushing" - Webster came up with this stuff... I just speak the language) His offense overall is not very good. He isn't the best QB (no offense to him) and his WR crew has a handicap of about a 25. (If you play golf you'll get that - if not - just know that means they're not good either.)
Your Dallas Cowboys...
~ Tony Romo, your QB! After watching Romo for years, he seems to be a guy who plays up to his competition. When we play better teams, he seems to play better. When we play poor teams, he sometimes doesn't play as well (or so it seems to me). I think he has played consistently enough the past few games to bode well going into our battle with the Raiders of the lost Ark. He has a 59% pass completion rating this season. Against the Oakland D - I hope that number will only increase.
~ Dallas Offense. We're going to have to pass the ball a lot. Oakland's D is ranked 8th in the league against the Run. DeMarco Murray won't have a record breaking game this week. We will need Dez Bryant and Witten to step it up a notch! They both had a great game last week!
**Sleeper WR on the Cowboys is Cole Beasley, remember, this is the un-drafted, SMU kid I told you about. He randomly has a one great catch a game. It's like Where's Waldo during a 60 minute game of football! Watch for him... it's fun!**
~ Dallas Defense. Well kids... it's tough out there. Our D did an outstanding job last week. Shut-down Eli and the passing game. Shut-down Brandon Jacobs and the run game! However, we accrued two more injuries to our team, one being Morris Claiborne - our prodigy draft pick from this year. The common denominator in most of our injuries is the hamstring... anyone know a good doctor? These guys need to start doing some yoga or something! Anyway - the will for sure shut-down Pryor. I am confident of that. Our Safety (secondary guy) Barry Church had 13 tackles last week. Take them to Church Barry... :)
~ Your Kicker... Dan Bailey! I forgot to mention Dan in my last blog. My friend, who is his biggest fan, graciously pointed this out to me! Bailey kicked a 35 yard field goal to win the game last week. He's made 90% of his field goals this year! That is awesome for the 25 year old from Oklahoma City! (He's also an OSU Cowboy... Go Pokes!) If you haven't bought your Dan Bailey jersey for Christmas yet... buy now.
Bottom Line... We will have to play through injuries to get a head of the E,a,g,l,e,s. This is another must win for us if we have any hopes of making it to the play-offs. Play-offs! You kidding me... yes I mentioned the Play-offs! (watch the sound byte here)
Standings... do a little dance... we are 6-5... tied with the Ph$#$#%%$^@ Ea&%*#... I found a way around typing the name of that team! Whew! Anywho... we are tied with them and the Giants are trailing us at 4-7. Washington is at 3-7 with very little hope of their team having a Kumbaya moment this season and rebounding! Close your eyes... it's a bumpy ride from here on out!

GO MAVS!!!
Mavs record is... 9-6... we need to hold on to this lead in the West... (We are in the Western Conference)
~ We lost back to back games against the Denver Nuggets. Our starters splayed well... ("starters" are the 5 guys who start the game on the court) but our Bench players ("Bench" the guys are literally sitting on the bench waiting for the Coach to put them in) didn't play well. They have been playing great all season, but only had 21 points and were 8 of 27 in last night's game. ("8 of 27" means they only made 8 baskets out of 27 shots they took!)
~ We need to play better Defense and get more rebounds. I used to joke that the team who has the most rebounds at the end of the game wins. But that may actually be scientific?!? We'll see...

GO RANGERS!!!
~ No other major trades have been made. I will let you know if you should start crying because they're getting rid of our favorite players.
Random Info:
~ Being thankful isn't just a holiday. It should be an every day thing. Wake up, you're breathing, be thankful. You get in your car, drive to your job, be thankful. You talk to a family member on the phone, be thankful for Family! You have lunch with a friend, catch up about old times and what the future holds, be thankful. You look into the sky on any given day and see the masterpiece that is staring back at you, that God himself created, be thankful. Tell people in your life you LOVE them. Why not? Hug the soup out of them! No one knows when that may be the last time. If you're into scripture... read 1 Thess 5:16-18 :)
I had this commercial on here last post... but it's such a wonderful display of friendship - I left it up for anyone who missed it! :)
Remember to play football during half-time of each game this Thursday! Get some fresh air! Hang with the fam! Then eat some more! ha! Life's all about balance! :)
