Week 3: Falcons vs. Cowboys ~ Rangers Win Streak ~ New York City

GO COWBOYS!!! 2-0 (wins - losses)

Sunday, September 27th
Atlanta Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys (home team is second)
12:00 PM CST

Both teams are 2-0 going into this weeks matchup.

The Atlanta Falcons are lead by their QB, Matt Ryan, aka: Matty IceHe earned this nickname because of his late game come-backs... similar to our Tony Romo. (who we will play without for the next 8 weeks, minimum).

The Falcons are also without two of their main players, WR, Devin Hester and RB, Tevin Coleman. This gives our Defense a slight advantage, but not sure it's enough.

The Falcons have averaged 300 yards passing and 80 yards rushing, this season. The advantage for the Cowboys is... the Falcons Defense has allowed 314 passing yards and 22 points per game. If we still had Romo and Dez, we'd be all over this... but... here is your new starting line-up.

Dallas Cowboys starting line-up this week:

Romo. Out.

Dez. Out.

Gregory. Out.

Mincey. Out.

Witten. Can't nobody hold me down, oh no, I got to keep on movin'. Probable.

Brandon Weeden. Starting QB.

Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley. Starting WR's.

Joseph Randel, Lance Dunbar, Darren McFadden. Starting RB's.

Our O-line is holding up. They will have to learn with Weeden as the weeks go on. He's very similar to Romo in his mannerisms and delivery, so they shouldn't have a problem adjusting.

**We also acquired Matt Cassel this week for a 5th round draft pick in the 2016 NFL Draft (I'm not a fan of this). Dude was a back-up to Tom Brady in New England from '05-'08, then in Kansas City from '09-'12, then in Minnesota from '13-'14, and in Buffalo before the Cowboys traded for him. Most people are calling this a "desperation call" - if something happens to Weeden. I still think we should have picked-up Tebow. Life's too short. Have fun playing football.**

Bottom Line... My guess is we will run the ball a lot. Or, you'll see slant routes to Cole Beasley and Witten/Escobar (Tight Ends). There will be the occasional deep ball to Terrance Williams, but I expect this to be a Lou Holtz type of game... 10 yards at a time.

Injuries... All of our injured players should be back by the first or second week of November. Hopefully.

Fantasy Football... Who wishes that Fournette was a RB in the NFL already. This dude has a few more years at LSU, but he is fun to watch!! I have Witten in one of my leagues and realized he may be touch and go for the next few weeks, so I picked up Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers. No clue how he was free on waivers, but if he's available in your league, get him.

GO RANGERS!!! 84-70
1st in AL West - .545, 3.5 games AHEAD of the Houston Astros, 5.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals in 1st Place in the American League

We lost today, and ended our 8 game win streak vs. the Houston Astros. We beat them beautifully last night and then went out today and allowed them to hit 6 Home Runs. 6. 3 off Holland. 1 off Gonzalez. 1 off Freeman. 1 off Jackson.

Despite the poor outing from the bullpen. Our offense still kept it alive!! Scoring 7 runs and Never giving up!

Moreland is making great contact and has semi-replaced the likes of David Murphy, Craig Gentry and Ian Kinsler in our line-up. I've always been a fan of Moreland!!

We've got Josh Hamilton back!! He has been out with torn cartilage in his knee. As he gets up to speed, we'll be heading into the Playoffs!!

GO MAVS!!!

Pre-Season Basketball has begun!! What??? Crazy when all three sports overlap. But, it's for real. Get ready!!

Random Info:
I just spent a week in one of my favorite cities ever. New York City.

There are so many wonderful things about this city that many people don't realize when they visit for a week or less.

Here are 10 of my Favorite things about New York.

1. It does not cater to you. At all. Unless you're rich enough to make it.
2. Most things are an inconvenience and I'm reminded life isn't about me.
3. The most random moments occur, and you learn to appreciate them.
4. Strangers talk to you and it either goes really well or very poorly, but you often learn something either way.
5. Street food and street vendors. It's nice to pick up an avocado on the way home and not have to buy 5 at the store because you don't want to go again for a week.
6. Kindness isn't fake and fluffy, it can be a simple gesture and it's good enough.
7. People in NYC speak their mind. I like hearing what they have to say. It challenges me.
8. Tourist really appreciate you offering to take their photo if you see them struggling to center the Statue of Liberty in the background.
9. Central Park takes my breath away. I could sit there for days, listening to a random stranger playing the saxophone and reading a book. Done. Life is complete.
10. When you live there. You survive it. When you leave. You miss it. It doesn't make sense, but the city becomes a part of you. It will always be my second home.

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
