Week 1: Giants vs. Cowboys ~ Rangers win big on 9/11 ~ Fireworks

GO COWBOYS!!!

Cowboys first Regular Season Game...

Sunday, September 13th
New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys (home team is second)
7:30 PM CST

Finally!!! It's GAME TIME!!!! Tomorrow night!

My food suggestion of the week... stop by On The Border restaurant, purchase a quart of their salsa and their big bag of chips (it's literally a clear trash bag), for less than $7 (chips come with the quart of salsa). It's fresh and 100 times better than any store-bought salsa!

The weather has dropped in Texas to the high 80's. Perfect weather to kick off Fall! (Yes, we'd take 70's, but we're happy with anything other than 107 right now).

The Cowboys...

Read this. Almost all of our starters are HEALTHY!!!

Tony Romo, our QB, didn't have back surgery this off-season and Sean Lee is back on Defense! Orlando Scandrick is out for the season with an ACL and MCL tear, so Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne and Byron Jones need to step it up!

Carr will be good. Jones will be GREAT. This rookie needs to get a few NFL games under his belt, but he will be a huge asset to this Cowboys Secondary! They're starting him on  Special Teams (ST: kick-off, extra-point, field-goal, punt), but he will soon be a starter on this Defense!

The Opponent...

The New York Giants are coming to Dallas to play the COWBOYS!!! They heard me. They are coming to our house!! Bring it! We play them twice a year, every year. Once here. Once there. Same with the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles. They are in our conference, the NFC East.

**Hi to my NYC friends... I still love y'all!!**

Eli Manning is the QB for the Giants. He just signed a new contract that guarantees him in NYC for the next 4 years for $84 million dollars. That's a lot of money. Ironically, the Cowboys have Romo for 4 more years... so, looks like these guys will be duking it out until retirement! Or they do the Brett Favre farewell tour, either way.

Players... Jason Pierre-Paul is their Defensive End, who blew off a finger while playing with fireworks on July 4th. His injuries are worse than they thought and they will miss this guy when the play the Dallas O-LINE (of steel)!! Their star WR, Victor Cruz is out with a calf injury. He will not play in tomorrow night's game. But, don't feel sorry for their offense... they still have Odell Beckham, JR... the dude with the best one-handed catch EVER!!! (I may have him on my fantasy team)??

Fantasy Football... I normally avoid having NFC East players on my fantasy teams because it is a conflict of interest. This is the first year, in 6 years, I drafted and Eagles player, DeMarco Murray! Outside of him, I will never draft an Eagles player again. End Scene.

GO RANGERS!!! 74-66
2nd in AL West - .529, 1.5 games behind Houston Astros, 9.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals in 1st Place in the American League

The Rangers and Yankees should make it into the playoffs with the wildcard slot!

Wow... is all I can say. Colby Lewis had his best game ever Friday night. I was fortunate enough to be at the ballpark on 9/11. That seems like the most appropriate place to be on that day. #NeverForget #USA #NYC

Colby Lewis was PERFECT through 7 innings... it got busted up in the 8th by Danny Valencia (Oakland's left-fielder, .288 batting average), with a double. The crowd stood up and cheered! #respect

Colby may not have had as many strikeouts in his complete game as Derek Holland did two weeks ago against the Orioles, 11 K's. But he did have less pitches, 97 vs. Hollands 116. Both were spectacular performances and have given this ball club high hopes for the playoffs!

The fielders typically save Colby a bit, with their spectacular defensive play. But, Colby Lewis more than earned that W Friday night. The bats got going early and the Rangers put up 3 runs in the first. Every pitcher likes knowing they're ahead each time they take the mound. He finished strong!

I hope this boosts his confidence as we move into the playoffs! His ERA went from 4.68 to 4.45. And his post game comments were more than a true reflection of his character and the reality that he lives in. Listen and watch this interview! #humble #supportourtroops

Random Info:
Fireworks are my favorite thing! The Rangers have some of the best ever... especially when they're to patriotic music! My dad was hoping for Lee Greenwood, "God Bless the USA" - but they played the anthems of each military service and "God Bless America" instead. Humbling. And a great tribute to each and every man and woman who has served or been married or family to someone who has served. Thank you!

Other Random info... I'm watching SMU beat UNT right now on my Watch ESPN app... it's worth downloading on your phone for football season... tennis, golf, baseball, etc.

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
