Week 11: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ MAVS ~ Mean Green ~ Black Friday

COWBOYS 5-4 (wins-losses)
Sunday, November 19th
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys (home team is second)
7:30 PM CST on NBC

The Cowboys lost because I was out of town. I will never leave again.

Well, a lot has changed this past week...

1. Elliott was officially suspended, he did not play in our loss to Atlanta last week, and we have five more weeks without him. He will make it back for the last two games of the season, his first game back will be on December 24th vs. the Seattle Seahawks. Football wise... I wish he had taken the hit at the beginning of the season, but I know it's a personal decision.

2. Jerry is making headlines, and not in a good way. Between controversial videos and his opposition of the NFL Commissioner, Rodger Goodell, we're getting a lot of negative press. Jerry is known for his marketing skills, so hopefully he can silence the crowds and get back to football. For those of you who know him as the Cowboys Owner, he is also the GM (General Manager) - the only Owner and GM in the league.

3. Sean Lee is injured again, hamstring. Jeff Heath is injured, concussion. Maliek Collins is injured, foot. None of these guys are expected to play vs. the Eagles. These are all Defensive Players. We will need a strong Defense if we plan to beat the 8-1 Eagles!

What have we learned so far?

#1 - Character and accountability. Take ownership of your actions. Defend them if necessary. Accept the penalty. Game Plan for how to move forward.

#2 - Leadership, not pride. Those are two very different things. Going back to character and accountability. We may need a GM that isn't our Owner. We all need checks and balances in our lives. Even those of us at the very top.

#3 - How are we going to beat the Eagles? I'm glad you asked!

Carson Wentz.

Y'all, you know how much I love to not like the Eagles! Like, I do NOT like the Eagles. It's as close to hating a team as I've come in my life. Especially with my lovely experience at the NFL draft in 2006 with a few Eagles fans. But, Carson Wentz is such a good dude. I mean, like you can't not like him.

Does that mean I want their Sophmore QB to beat our Sopmhore QB, Dak Prescott, no. I want to believe we can win. However, we have a lot going against us right now.

The Eagles Offense is firing on all cylinders, Carson Wentz has thrown for over 2,000 yards. Our busted up D will need to play lights out for all four quarters! Anthony Hitchens is replacing Sean Lee. Big shoes to fill, but he has to do it! It's time for a lot of second and third string guys to step up against the top team in the NFC East!

The Eagles top to receivers are their TE (tight end) Zach Ertz and their WR (wide receiver) Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery has an ankle injury, but still plans to play Sunday night.

"I'll see your Zach Ertz and raise you a Jason Witten."

Dak Prescott - We need our QB to be protected. Tyron Smith is injured, groin. His absence allowed Prescott to get sacked 8 times last week. Help!! We need this guy to have more time in the pocket, like he's used to!

Who will replace Elliot this week?

Me.

Just kidding.

The same three guys who played RB (running back) last week will play this week.

Alfred Morris
Rod Smith
Darren McFadden

But we will need more from our WR's and TE's to get the job done. Dak will continue to get sacked if he doesn't have a pass option.

"They" keep saying that playing without a guy like Elliott, and I would even argue Murray three years ago, doesn't change the game plan. But It Does. Having a running back like Elliot takes a toll on the opposing teams Defense, mentally. Knowing that he's not there gives them a big advantage, it's called confidence.

The Eagles Defense is ranked #1 against the run and #23 against the pass. They are ranked 9th in the league in total D. We HAVE to take advantage of the passing game and get guys down the field. Do you hear me Dez? Do your job!

Do we get the W this week? Or do we become a 5-5 team and get ready for our big Thanksgiving game vs. Los Angeles Chargers?

GO MAVS!!! 2-14 (wins - losses)
Since the last time we talked, we haven't won a game.

The sad thing is, they're better than this!

Our leaders are:
Harrison Barnes, 18.8 points per game (PPG)
Harrison Barnes, 7.1 rebounds per game (RPG)
Dennis Smith, JR., 4.6 assists per game (APG)

J.J. Barea may not be in our leaderboard, but the dude has 11.8 PPG, and gives Smith, Jr. a break when he needs one. Rotating these two guys has been a positive for this team! We just need the rest of our shots to go in the basket!

Go to a game! I need to do the same!

North Texas!!! 7-3 (wins - losses)
I graduated from the University of North Texas.

Not a school best known for it's football program, except for Mean Joe Greene, which is why our school is also called, Mean Green, originally the Eagles (not the Philadelphia kind, ew).

And tonight they are playing Army! A team that is 8-2.

I really wanted to go to this game! I think it will be a great battle and a fun one for a Conference that doesn't get a lot of attention!

From the looks of it - both of these teams could beat some of the bigger schools this year!

Only one more week of College Game Day... then Bowl Games and the National Championship. Crazy how time flies!

Random Info
Next week is Thanksgiving.

How?

I feel like the leaves just changed colors! And it's still 70 degrees in TX. I want cold weather! Which is why I visited NYC last week. A perfectly crisp 40 degrees. Just what everyone needs in the Fall!

But, no matter where you are, there's shopping to be done. (I work in retail, I know).

We all have a list of "wants" and "needs." For either list, you'll want to get the best price!

Most retailers begin their Black Friday promotions on Wednesday, Nov. 22nd. Remember to use Ebates on top of your Black Friday coupons, on online and in-store purchases.

I recommend that you preview items online, make a list of what you actually should buy, then check back on those items Wed-Monday next week

If you make a list, it will be easier to not buy things you don't really need, just because "it's a good deal." This is how we get into debt. Not a good thing!

I use an app called Wunderlist. My best friend told me about it years ago. You can even share lists on there with other contacts in your phone.

If you have a running Christmas list for the family, maybe you share it with your husband.

Or a Thanksgiving Dinner list of food items you share between family members?

My friend and I used this to make a list of everything we wanted to do and see in NYC.

I'm not a huge list person, but sometimes being organized is a good thing!!

As for deals... Amazon already has their list out there, of course. Most other websites will be between 25-40% off Wed-Monday.

Monday, Nov. 27th is Cyber Monday. Not everyone does something special on this day, but a few sites may have a slightly deeper discount. The risk you run on popular items is them being out of stock by Monday. Totally up to you if you want to wait and see if the deal sweetens, but my vote is buy it on Wed, Thurs or Fri and call it a day!

Go outside and enjoy the weather!!

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
