GO COWBOYS!!!
WEEK 3 - Dallas Cowboys vs St. Louis Rams
(remember, the second team is at HOME)
Game Time: Noon (CST)
RECORD (1-1)
So, clearly I need to be out of Dallas when the Cowboys play and not watching the game. They won last week against the Tennessee Titans, while I was out of town, so it must be me, right? Hey Jack - it's only crazy if it doesn't work.
This weeks game...
~ DeMarco Murray (our Running Back - RB), game on!!! He ran for 167 yards against Tennessee and had 1 TD. Not only was this good for my fantasy team, but it was great for Tony Romo. He knows he has a backup plan and doesn't have to scramble or make poor throws on third down. It has been far too long since we've had a running back that can be trusted to move the chains and drive the momentum of the game like Emmitt Smith did in the 90's. ("move the chains" - refers to the guys on the sideline that hold the orange markers for every 10 yards. When the referee places the ball on the ground, the Offense has to move the ball 10 yards forward to get a First Down - then the sideline guys literally "move the chains" to the next spot where the ball is, got it?)
~ Tony Romo (our QB) had a decent game, in addition to Murray's skills. He threw for 457 yards and had two TD's to Dez and Terrance Williams. He still doesn't look the same as he has in the past. I hope he's healthy, and we need Dez to stay healthy too. He left the game last week with a shoulder injury, but says he is fine now. I think we can have a game this week similar to last week. However, we won't see our first true test of our passing game until we meet the Houston Texas on October 5th and go against J.J. Watt and company.
~ Dallas Defense. Orlando Scandrick is back, which is a good thing. We'll see what they can prove this week. They held the Titans to 10 points last week, so it looks promising for their matchup with the Rams.
Bottom Line: The Rams have a decent offense, but it's mostly the run game with Zac Stacy, their RB. Their defense against the run is ranked 29th in the NFL, which means, DeMarco Murray will have another BIG game and hopefully get the Cowboys the W.

GO RANGERS!!!
We are 61-92 (Wins - Losses)
The Rangers are making themselves look great going down the stretch! I just wish we were able to be healthy and play this way all season.
Adiran Beltre is killing it! He's batting .324, and is ranked #3 in the American League in batting average. On a sad, but good for him note, Nelson Cruz (former Ranger, who now plays for the Baltimore Orioles) is ranked 40th in batting average and first in Home Runs, with 39 home runs. Good for Nelly, he's missed.
Holland has had a few great outings since being back!! Yay! And the rest of our pitching roster has found a groove. The Rangers have won 7 straight games. Which has, most likely, ruined the playoff hopes for the Oakland Athletics and is tearing down the confidence of the Los Angeles Angels.
All I can say is... GO RANGERS!!! Next year boys, next year!

So, about 6 months after I graduated college, I moved to New York City. My parents were brave in letting me go, and I could not have imagined how much this adventure would change me.
I will spare you too many personal details, this is a sports blog, but my years there had a huge impact on who I am as a person and how I will forever feel about New Yorkers, natives and imports, and the city itself.
I love and hate the smell of the city. The air in Central Park makes you feel like you're on top of the Rockies, and it makes me want to frolic through the Great Lawn with bare feet. On the flip side, the air on the sidewalks at 7 AM with dogs doing their business, Halal food being cooked and it's trash day, makes you hold your breath on your 3/4 a mile walk to the subway and wish you had permanently lost your sense of smell.
I love how strangers talk to one another. I visited the city this past week. Not for work, but for fun! I was with a friend on the subway and a random guy starts talking to a couple, clearly tourists. He spends the next 6 stops describing the movie Tombstone, scene by scene. Ha! Being trapped like this happens often, and I found it somewhat refreshing! In Dallas, if I don't want to see people, I don't. If you don't want to be in a crowd or annoyed at the grocery store, you go early in the morning or at 9 PM at night. Being in NYC is an inconvenience in so many ways, and I like that. It reminds me that life isn't about me, it's about people, and loving them where they're at.
Another wonderful thing about the city is, the people. One of the most common assumptions I hear, is that New Yorkers (natives and imports, such as myself) aren't friendly. Well, that's not entirely true. Some are rude, and that is just how they are, there are rude people everywhere. But, most of them are just tired. You try hauling it in the city to and from your extremely stressful job, then get on a subway, where your personal space is more than violated, and you try smiling and giggling on the way home. People in Dallas, and most cities, get in their car after a long day at work. They zone out. No one talks to them unless they make a phone call or are meeting people for dinner. So, be a little nicer to those New Yorkers, they just need a few inches and some breathing room. Then they'll offer to take a picture of you and your friend riding the subway or pointing at billboards in Time Square.
Lastly, when I lived there, I went to a lot of Yankees games. Don't worry Texas Rangers fans, when the Rangers were in town, I cheered for my #1 Team first! I am not a traitor. I only cheered for the Yankees when they weren't playing for the Rangers. I got to watch many great players come through the Bronx and I always enjoyed watching Derek Jeter. This past Thursday, I got the chance to go to the Bronx one more time, and see Jeter play one of the last games of his career! He even hit a home run, which was so awesome because I got it on video!! :) He has played 20 years in the MLB! He has stayed healthy and been one of the most consistent players in the game!
You will be missed, Captain. #RE2PECT
(video of Derek Jeter's Home Run, only his 4th this season)
(New York, New York, by Frank Sinatra - This song plays after every Yankees Game, and it's especially sweet when they win)
Once you live in New York, it is a part of you. You survived the city and you will forever long to return. For how long? Only God knows. But, Texas is forever my home, and I would miss Mexican food too much to ever leave it.
Hug someone :)
