Week 17: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles ~ MAVS ~ Happy New Year

COWBOYS 8-7 (losses-wins)
Sunday, December 31 (New Years Eve)
Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles (home team is second)
12:00 Noon (CST) on FOX

Why did the Cowboys lose last week to a Seattle team that only had 136 Offensive yards, when we should have won! Final score, 21-12. Not at all what I predicted.

The Cowboys had 283 Offensive yards, we owned time of possession with 32:50 minutes, and we had 21 First Downs vs. Seattle's 15. Why God, why???

So, where did we lose? We had two interceptions and one fumble. Seattle had none. Seattle converted in the red zone 2-2, we were 0-2 in the red zone. Which means, Dan Bailey had to kick 6 field goals, 4 of which he made, and accounted for all of the points on the board, 4x3 = 12.

Momentum.

You have Zeke, you win. You take Zeke out, you lose your first three games. You figure out how to win without Zeke, you win your next three games. You add Zeke back in, you lose your chance at a Playoff run.

Should we be able to overcome this? As players? As coaches? As a staff? Yes! (as I say this from my couch - and you're reading this on your couch).

The game this week is vs. our Division Rival, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles have already won our division and clinched a playoff spot, even with losing their star QB, Carson Wentz, to an ACL injury. I think I mentioned before that this guy is a really good guy. It has made it hard to cheer against him personally, but I will never want the Eagles to win, and neither should you (assuming you're a Cowboys fan).
Jason Garrett, our coach, said that they do not plan on resting players in the game Sunday. But the Eagles probably will. It makes sense to give their guys a week off before they head into the Playoffs.

Nick Foles is the back-up QB for Philly. Another great guy! How this happened to the Eagles, I'll never know. But if it keeps them from booing Santa and cheering off injured players on stretchers, I'll take it!

Garrett should be on the hot seat this week, but Jerry Jones is loyal to him. Read this.

Bottom line...

For a game that doesn't really matter for either team, it's hard to predict a winner. The Cowboys will want to win from a pride perspective, and the fact that this may or may not be Jason Witten's last NFL game. And the Eagles will be trying out position players in different slots to see what options they have in the playoffs. Winning is not as important to them.

Cowboys barely win... 17-14.

GO MAVS!!! 12-25 (wins - losses)
We won!!! We won!!! We won!!!

The Mavs have won their last three games!!

Dennis Smith Jr. is back with a vengeance. Dude had his first triple-double vs. the Pelicans on Friday night. He had 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Our team had 22 3-pointers. Wesley Matthews and Devin Harris lead the 3-point charge!

We take on the OKC Thunder Sunday night at 6 PM CST. If you're getting ready for your New Years Eve celebration, have this on in the background, your guests will thank you!

It looks like our mix of really young players and veteran players is finally coming together!! Dirk is still in the mix too. He had 13 points last night! Keep doing your thing dude! I feel like one day he'll just go out like Duncan did. Leave the game silently, but his presence will always be there.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
I hope you end this year with a thankful heart and head into the new year with a hopeful heart.

We are all struggling with things. We all need to extend forgiveness to others and to ourselves. We all need to laugh a little more. Take things a little more lightly. Trust that there are still people in this world with good hearts!

My first step towards taking life a little more lightly is to play volleyball this year. Ha! Praying there are no new injuries or old ones that reoccur! I'm not 22 anymore, but I also know that you're never too old to try new things!

I also choose a word for every year... I do not know my word yet for 2018, but I know that the past three years, the Lord has proved Faithful (2015), in my Surrender (2016) and Obedience (2017). It's cool to see how your word for the year will carry into the next year and the next.

What is your fun goal for 2018?

What is your word of the year for 2018?

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

Rangers lose Game 1

GO RANGERS!!! Rangers lose to the Kansas City Royals, 2-1. Their pitching was spectacular. Our pitching wasn't too bad, but yet again, we couldn't hit against Santana! (that was KC's pitcher) The Rangers are 7 games behind Oakland to win the Division. Clearly we probably won't catch up to them, but we can still get a Wild Card spot if they ever start winning consistently!  Game 2 in KC is tomorrow night - Matt Garza is pitching for the Rangers!  Cheer Loudly!  GO COWBOYS!!! 12:00 PM - this Sunday - St. Louis Rams vs Dallas Cowboys.  Enjoy your family, friends and some football!!! :) "Day of Rest" Random Info: The two teams who have already secured a spot in the Playoffs are:  ~ Boston Red Sox (we used to have Mike Napoli  - he is a great Home Run hitter and now plays for Boston... his beard fits in perfectly there)  ~ LA Dodgers (We like their Manager - Don Mattingly  - he used to play for the NY Yankees back in the day!)  ...
