Week 15: Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Raiders ~ MAVS ~ Hug Someone

COWBOYS 7-6 (losses-wins)
Sunday, December 17th
Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Raiders (home team is second)
7:30 PM CST on NBC

We've won our last two games, without Ezekiel Elliott! This is our last game without him. He is eligible to play again on 12/24 vs. Seattle.

With a 7-6 record, we need to win this game if we want a shot to make the playoffs.

So, how do we match up vs. the Raiders??

There are three key areas that we are better in...

1. Total Yards per game. This doesn't always equate to points, but it helps!
2. Time of possession. This is a big one! The team that controls the clock, typically controls the pace and outcome of the game. Some teams are better in the second half, that would be the Raiders. Something the Cowboys have had to prepare for.
3. Third down conversion. Another big one! Each team has four downs to get 10 yards. Your goal is to get the 10 yards on the first or second down. However, if you must go on third or fourth down, you need it to be a short yardage situation, or a really smart play. As predictable as our play-calling has been, it seems to work for us on third down.

How does our Defense match up with theirs?

Our D is slightly better than the Raiders. We've allowed less passing and rushing yards. We've held our opponents to an average of 22.6 point per game. And we are tied with the Raiders in allowing third point conversions. I'd say, advantage Cowboys!

Cowboys key players...

1. Dan Bailey ~ our kicker. Dude, he missed three kicks last week. 3!!! He explained that it was the wind in NYC. But this is the most accurate kicker in the league! He has been 100% accurate, until last week. He was 33.3.%. If he plays this week, with his hamstring injury, I assume the wind in LA won't bother him.

2. Sean Lee ~ linebacker. He has battled a hamstring injury for a few weeks, or a few years. He played last week vs. the Giants and had 18 tackles and an interception, assisted by Chidobe Awuzie. Our rookie CB's (cornerbacks) have stepped up their game!!

We will need our entire D to step up! More and more injuries will keep out Scandrick, David Irving, and possibly Lee. He didn't practice Friday.

3. Rod Smith ~ WR (wide receiver). Who is this guy?? Dude was 5/5 last week, for 113 yards and one TD! Now this is what I'm talking about! He has been in the league three years stepped up when we need it the most! Keep it up Smith! I hope to see more of you and Williams this week!

Our entire Offense needs to play how they did vs. the Giants!

Raiders key players...

1. Derek Carr ~ QB. This guy is pretty good!! He has an amazing arm and can attack any Defense in the fourth quarter! He had an amazing game last week vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. They lost, but not by much. He will be coming in hot this Sunday!!

2. Jared Cook ~ TE (Tight End). This is Carr's go to guy! Our rookie Defensive will have to guard against this dude. He's 6'5" and 254 lbs. Ummm yeah. Big dude. Good luck D!

3. Marshawn Lynch ~ RB. Don't worry, he won't do anything. We've got this!

Cowboys MUST WIN if we want to make it to the the big dance!!!

Cowboys win, 28-27

GO MAVS!!! 8-21 (wins - losses)
J.J. Barea. We may be losing a lot, still, but this guy is killing it!! He's 33 years old, averaging 5.4 assists and 12.2 points per game. Barnes is fun to watch, but as someone in their 30's - I like seeing guys like Barea and Dirk defy the odds!

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
