NFL Draft ~ Dallas Cowboys ~ Texas Rangers ~ Dallas Stars ~ Rough Riders

GO COWBOYS!!!
NFL DRAFT, Thursday, April 28th - Saturday, April 30th

IT IS DRAFT WEEK!!!!

Watch the NFL Draft Live

So... the Draft never disappoints. For those of you who think it is the equivalent of watching golf on TV or baseball... you should give it another shot! There are trades, drama with tweets being sent out about players and over-reaction from the TV analysts! Plus, you get to see a lot of grown men cry... happy tears... but still, very rare scene.

The Dallas Cowboys did EXACTLY what I wanted them to do for the past two years. They took Ezekiel Elliott with the 4th pick in the 1st round. Did we want to have the horrible record we had last year, NO! But, it got us to the 4th spot and we finally paid a Running Back! It has seriously been since Emmitt Smith that we made this position a priority. With the pressure Romo gets, we need a solid RB who can block!

I know DeMarco Murray had injuries and one "great year" - but I feel like we treated him like Mark Cuban treated Tyson Chandler... they were major factors in the success of the team and then, they're out! We should have franchise tagged Murray for the 2015 season and signed Dez... but whatever... that's the past and we now have Elliott!

Looking forward to what lies ahead...

With the 34th pick in the 2nd round... the Dallas Cowboys took Jaylon Smith... Linebacker from Notre Dame. This is a player that has been talked about every day by every analyst. He got injured in the Bowl Game where the Fighting Irish played Ohio State on January 1st. Ironically, he was playing against his new teammate, Ezekiel Elliott. He tore his LCL and ACL and has nerve damage in his knee. One of the doctors that the Dallas Cowboys use performed his surgery. I assume they trust the doctors that the nerve damage will heal? As someone who suffers from nerve damage, it is no joke. I hope for this kids sake that he does heal, but nerves are so much more complicated than tissue or bones. The time-table is long. The chances of Jaylen playing this season are slim. I'd say 25% chance. Not sure why we had to take him with the 34th pick? I think he would have still been there in the 3rd or 4th round.

***Before Jaylen's knee injury, he was projected to be the 1st pick in the 2016 NFL Draft***

With the 67th pick in the draft (3rd round)... the Dallas Cowboys took Maliek Collins, Defensive Tackle from Nebraska. He had 29 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2015. We needed this. A healthy Defensive player. We need more of them...

GO STARS!!! 0-1
PLAYOFFS - Round 2

Dallas Stars vs. St. Louis Blues

The Stars are off to a decent start. They have home ice advantage through all rounds of the playoffs, since they finished with the second highest points in the NHL. And, they won Game 1 vs. the Blues.

One disturbing stat I heard is that in the 1st round of the Playoffs, the Stars were only 4 of 19 on Power Plays. Seems like a lot of missed opportunities!!

But they got the job done tonight!! Looked like they were playing fast and mad at first, but then it became fast and smart. Great job fellas!

GO RANGERS!!! 12-10
1st in AL West
4th in AL

With all of our injuries (the Mavs curse), we are still playing fairly well as a 50/50 veteran/rookie team.

Even the transfer players have stepped up their game! Ian Desmond is playing Center Field tonight (he has for the past 7 games), vs. Left Field. He's getting better and better from transitioning from shortstop to Outfield. His batting average is also increasing, slightly, but he's been getting key hits to score 9 RBIs. This transition from Left Field (LF) to Center Field (CF) was due to the demotion of Delino Deshields. Read this article - it's pretty insightful

Comeback Kids...

Josh Hamilton and Yu Darvish... if you don't have plans this weekend... both of these kids will be in Frisco, TX at the Rough Riders! Yu is planned to start on Sunday. He will throw at least 2 innings. Hamilton is to arrive on Saturday.

Take the kids out and go checkout two of the greatest baseball players you'll ever see in person. Plus, that park is so homey feeling... kind of like the original ballparks. America's Pastime.

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
