Week 1: Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers ~ Texas Rangers ~ Fall Cleaning

GO Cowboys!!!
Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers (away team ~ home team)
Sunday, September 9 @ 3:25 PM CST

Wow! A lot has happened between a few pre-season losses and the week before the Season Opener in Carolina.

There may be more than this, but here's what I've read/seen/heard. I'm just a girl with a day job... no insider info here (oh, but one day)?

We're starting with the most shocking news to the least shocking news...

1. Dan Bailey. Yes, my friend just bought his jersey last year, and he's SHOCKINGLY not a Cowboy anymore. This is our Ace kicker, second most accurate kicker in the entire NFL. He had a groin injury last year and was not as accurate when he came back from it. However, it's hard to believe he's THAT bad? If you're still sad about the decision made by the Cowboys Coaches/GM, here are a couple of articles that will empathize with you. There was a kicking competition? A deep dive into Dan Bailey's last three seasons.

p.s. He's trying out for the NY Jets this week. He'll love it in NY, but the Jets??

And here is a clip from today where Jason Garrett "explains himself" based on this decision. Basically it came down to Money...?

2. Travis Frederick. Our four time Pro-Bowl Center (on our Offensive Line, the guy who snaps (hikes) the ball to Dak (QB)), is out indefinitely. He has been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease called, Guillain-Barre Syndrome. This is sad because I feel like auto-immune diseases are far too common these days. But they caught this early and he is already undergoing treatment. The Cowboys made a trade for Parker Ehinger, an O-Lineman from Kansas City. This should help until Frederick is back. If you pray, please pray for his complete healing! And if you don't know about his personal life, he does a lot for the city of Dallas through his foundation, Blocking Out Hunger. Here is an article including a statement from Travis.

3. Bo Scarbrough, Running Back draft pick from Alabama, didn't make the 53 man roster, but did make the practice squad. Nick Saban does a great job winning National Championships, but not a lot of 'Bama players seem to do well in the NFL. Hopefully this guy does well for himself and gets a shot at being a backup for Elliott.

4. Rico Gathers. A lot of guys were cut Saturday, to get the team down to only 53 guys... and this is why Gathers is my last thought of the day. Not shocking that the guy who has been inconsistent as a Tight End, and now has drug charges, made the team. I am always a fan of second chances, but the Cowboys have a proven history of keeping "favorites." Hopefully he gets focused on football and around some guys in the locker room that are positive to be around!

We haven't been to a Super Bowl since the 1995 season. Does that bother anyone? It should. 8-8 is unacceptable this year. I'm holding myself to the same standard in my Fantasy Football league. #gobigorgohome #winit

(yes, I care more about the Cowboys winning than my fantasy team, kind of)

GO RANGERS!!! 60-77 (wins - losses)
Despite the Rangers being out of the race, they're still putting on a show!

They won their last two games vs. the Minnesota Twins with scores of 7-4 and 18-4

We hit 109 home runs before the All-Star break and have had 61 since vs. our opponent total of 69 HR's. It looks like in the game last night they tried to spike that HR number!! Fun to watch!

Bonus: We are seeing our guys be more patient on Offense. We have 149 walks vs. our opponents having 122. We need guys like Gallo to be on the walk list. He's all walk or all HR. Maybe he'll work on bunting on the off-season?

There are still 25 games left in the season, starting tonight vs. the LA Angels. The weather will eventually cool off... going to a game is a great way to enjoy the month of September in Texas!

Thoughts...
Y'all. Spring Cleaning has a better ring to it, but let's be honest, we probably need to clean and purge a few times a year!

I started this weekend with clothes and shoes. If I haven't worn it, or don't need it, someone else may want it or need it. There are a lot of places to donate your shoes and clothes to! Even your unwanted books and home items.

Choose the app you want to sell on (there are more than these)... then start selling!

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

Rangers lose Game 1

GO RANGERS!!! Rangers lose to the Kansas City Royals, 2-1. Their pitching was spectacular. Our pitching wasn't too bad, but yet again, we couldn't hit against Santana! (that was KC's pitcher) The Rangers are 7 games behind Oakland to win the Division. Clearly we probably won't catch up to them, but we can still get a Wild Card spot if they ever start winning consistently!  Game 2 in KC is tomorrow night - Matt Garza is pitching for the Rangers!  Cheer Loudly!  GO COWBOYS!!! 12:00 PM - this Sunday - St. Louis Rams vs Dallas Cowboys.  Enjoy your family, friends and some football!!! :) "Day of Rest" Random Info: The two teams who have already secured a spot in the Playoffs are:  ~ Boston Red Sox (we used to have Mike Napoli  - he is a great Home Run hitter and now plays for Boston... his beard fits in perfectly there)  ~ LA Dodgers (We like their Manager - Don Mattingly  - he used to play for the NY Yankees back in the day!)  ...
