Week 2: Dallas Cowboys vs. Denver Broncos ~ Texas Rangers ~ Random Football Notes

COWBOYS 1-0 (wins-losses)
Sunday, September 17th
Dallas Cowboys vs. Denver Broncos (home team is second)
3:25 PM CST on FOX

The Cowboys are undefeated this season.

What does "undefeated" mean? It is when a team/player has a big zero in the loss column. Think of the song by DJ Khaled, "All I do is win, win, win, no matter what?" (yes, I had to google the dude who wrote it... but you have to watch Emma Stone sing it on Jimmy Fallon - click the link and start at 5 minutes in, or watch the whole thing, she's pretty funny).

Should I be getting excited about being 1-0, and calling us UNDEFEATED? Well, I got to spend time with my nephew after his flag football game today, his team is 2-0, and the first thing he said when he ran off the field is, "Aunt Linds, we're UNDEFEATED." So, I'm going with it! Smart kid!

We play the Denver Broncos this week, in Denver!

It will be great to go in there with a win under our belts, but if any of you watched the game last week against the Giants, I think they made us look better than we actually played. Dak threw for 268 yards, and Zeke ran for 104 yards, but we didn't dominate like we could have.

After the game, Dak was interviewed and said that he knows they had issues, but they'll work on that this week. I feel like it's going to be a quick learning curve for this team in their second year together, now that every other team has game film on Dak and Zeke and studied it all off-season.

Quick hits for this weeks game...

1. Orlando Scandrick is out with a broken hand. He is one of our best Cornerbacks (A CB is the guy who lines up on Defense opposite the Wide Receiver on Offense - he tries to keep the Wide Receiver from catching the football - and if he's really good - he will intercept the ball and run it back for a pick-six - more to come on those terms). From what I've heard on Sports Radio and read in Dallas news, Chidobe Awuzie, should get the start in Scandrick's place. He is out at least 2 weeks.

2. With our Defense on the rocks, it looks like we're going to have to get points on the board to combat what the Denver Offense can do (not their QB situation, but their WR corps). Dez Bryant has come out saying he plans on being a big part of the game this week. That would be a huge help Dez, since last week you only had 2 receptions for 43 yards. He was targeted 9 times by Dak. 22% completion. We need you Dez. Step it up! (I feel like this was the same story every week last year, we know you're double covered, break free).

3. TE (Tight End) Jason Witten, scored our only TD (touchdown) in last weeks game, to pass Michael Irvin for the Cowboys record... all-time leader in receiving yards. That is an amazing accomplishment, without playoff games! And to pass #88! Those were the good old days! Witten will break another record on Sunday in Denver. He will play in his 225th game, the most in Cowboys history! Ed "Too Tall" Jones played in 224 games from 1974-1978, 1980-89. Good job Witten!! We need at least one TD this week!

4. The Denver Defense is pretty good. Ranked 7th in the NFL. However, our Dallas Offense is ranked 6th. The Broncos know the Offensive Line they're going up against. And they don't have Demarcus Ware anymore, he retired and is watching his son play flag football. Good for him!! But this leaves a few holes in the Denver D, which Ezekiel Elliot will run right through.

I feel like it's going to be a battle, but it's going to be a good one! I say Cowboys win, 24-14.

GO RANGERS!!! 72-76
9th in the AL (American League)
4th in the AL West (18 games behind the Houston Astros)
5 games out of the Wild Card

We're 5 games out of the Wild Card. And we have lost our last 5 games. Sad.

Aside from enjoying games with my family and friends, it's been a long season. We have had a few wins here and there. Gallo has stepped up quite nicely. Especially since Beltre was injured this last time. If Gomez comes back healthy, he has done well in CF (center field) and at the plate, .251 BA (batting average) and 49 RBI's (runs batted in).

I got to see Beltre DH (designated hit) on Thursday night with some friends. That was fun. But our pitching couldn't get us going AT ALL! Tears.

The only reliable pitcher we have is Cole Hamels. We have him signed through 2019, with a buyout option that year. So basically, we have one more year guaranteed... to build our pitching around him. $22.5M/year.

**Rumor has it that Shohei Otani, a Japanese pitcher that pitches over 100 mph and can hit a fastball a long way, is talking with the Rangers about coming here in 2018. He's talking to other teams too. This was one of the reasons people thought the Rangers were keeping Yu Darvish, to get this guy. We will see what happens.**

Adrian Beltre is signed through 2018, but if he wanted to leave next year, I doubt the Rangers would stop him. $18 M/year. Don't leave Adrian!!!

Random Info
Here are my football thoughts for the week...

1. Tom Brady's book comes out on the 19th, Tuesday. It is his prescription for healthy living and how he has stayed at the top of his game, even at 40. I've mentioned that I made fun of this diet a while back, only to find out I have Hashimoto's Thyroid disease and have been eating like this for about the past three months. I had eggs for the first time yesterday. It was a glorious day! I love eggs and have missed them so much! p.s Tom Brady doesn't eat eggs. Here is his website, TB12.

2. I watched second half of the Tennessee vs. Florida game today. What an amazing catch at the end of the game by Felipe Franks to Tyrie Cleveland. Watch it here. I was screaming at my TV, my neighbors probably thought something was wrong, or they're used to it during Football season. However, everyone keeps calling it a Hail Mary pass. I guess I'm used to seeing all of the guys jump up in the end zone, or it being a lot closer than 63 yards. The secondary didn't play far back at all. When Franks threw the ball, it looks like a normal pass to his WR. And he gunned it! Cleveland had the perfect angle on his defenders and TOUCHDOWN!!! Great win!! And great for their city and everyone in Florida who is still recovering from Hurricane Irma. Hopefully this put a big smile on their faces and gave them a few hours of normalcy!

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

Rangers lose Game 1

GO RANGERS!!! Rangers lose to the Kansas City Royals, 2-1. Their pitching was spectacular. Our pitching wasn't too bad, but yet again, we couldn't hit against Santana! (that was KC's pitcher) The Rangers are 7 games behind Oakland to win the Division. Clearly we probably won't catch up to them, but we can still get a Wild Card spot if they ever start winning consistently!  Game 2 in KC is tomorrow night - Matt Garza is pitching for the Rangers!  Cheer Loudly!  GO COWBOYS!!! 12:00 PM - this Sunday - St. Louis Rams vs Dallas Cowboys.  Enjoy your family, friends and some football!!! :) "Day of Rest" Random Info: The two teams who have already secured a spot in the Playoffs are:  ~ Boston Red Sox (we used to have Mike Napoli  - he is a great Home Run hitter and now plays for Boston... his beard fits in perfectly there)  ~ LA Dodgers (We like their Manager - Don Mattingly  - he used to play for the NY Yankees back in the day!)  ...
