Week 1: NY Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ Texas Rangers ~ Fall

Hurricane Relief

Please continue to pray for everyone affected by Harvey, everyone in the path of Irma, and that no more hurricanes come on land this year! This is much more important than sports!

Tim Duncan posted about the USVI (U.S. Virgin Islands). Check it out

COWBOYS 0-0 (wins-losses)
Sunday, September 10th
New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys (home team is second)
7:30 PM CST on NBC
Football is back!!

The season opener was on Thursday night, between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots. I heard good things in the off-season about the Chiefs defense, so I chose them in my NFL pick'em league. Good thing I did! They caught the Patriots in a reverse "hangover" from their Super Bowl win. They beat them 42-27. Too bad I have Brady in one of my Fantasy leagues. 10 points.

Speaking of football "hangovers" - check out this article written by Matt Ryan, the Atlanta Falcons QB. It's a pretty good explanation of where he's at and where their team is at after their epic loss in the Super Bowl. Good read.

Giants vs. Cowboys

The 5 things you need to know about the Cowboys...

1. This is the 3rd year in a row we've played the Giants in our Season Opener.

2. Sunday Night Football = Carrie Underwood = Cowboys Prime Time

3. Ezekiel Elliott, our Running Back (RB), is not suspended. He will play Sunday night, and every game, indefinitely. I have no comment about his off-the-field issues. I just hope guys in the locker room who have their head on their shoulders are able to impact his life in a positive way.

4. This is technically Dak Prescott's second season as the Dallas Cowboys starting QB. It will be interesting to see how he does without the extra drama like last year. I saw a video clip of his football camp he did in Lake Dallas, check it out. Made me tear up, just a little. It's only 3 minutes long, and he talks to a young kid whose mother is going through cancer.

5. Jaylon Smith. Read this story. He's starting at MIKE Linebacker. This is a big job for a kid who is still a Rookie, but I think he can do it! I'm just praying his knee is still good after the game! He's going to get a lot of hits in.

What should you know about the New York Giants?

1. They're from New York, but they play in New Jersey, they share a stadium with the Jets.

2. Eli Manning is still their QB.

3. Odell Beckham Jr. (OBJ), the Giants #1 WR (Wide Receiver), hurt his ankle in the pre-season. He is a game time decision. This will definitely impact the game if he does or doesn't play. However, they do have Brandon Marshall. Assuming he's healthy - he's projected to be in the Top 10 this year in Fantasy Football points for WR's. I only drafted him in one of my leagues.

4. They supposedly have an awesome Defense this year. We'll find out Sunday night!

GO RANGERS!!! 71-70
7th in the AL (American League)
3rd in the AL West (15 games behind the Houston Astros)
2.5 games out of the Wild Card

We've won 6 of our last 10 games, but at this point, every game counts. We need to beat the Yankees Sunday. No, we HAVE to beat the Yankees Sunday!

Then we have Seattle in town starting Monday. Every game within our Division is an entire game we move ahead or behind in the Wild Card. Seattle is one of those teams.

Bad news...

By now you've heard that Adrian Beltre is out of the lineup with a second degree hamstring injury. They originally said he would be out the rest of the season, or up to 6 weeks. Those timelines rarely work well for a guy like Beltre. He doesn't like sitting on the bench. I've heard now it could be three to four weeks. My hope is that we have him for the postseason, if we get there.

Beltre has a .317 batting average and 66 RBI's.

Carlos Gomez rolled his ankle in Saturday's game vs. the Yankees. He is day-to-day. DeShields will play Center Field (CF) for now. It's not a good thing to lose this guy either.

Gomez has a .251 batting average and 48 RBI's. He became a home run hitter in the past few weeks; he has 17 on the year.

Step 1. Make it into the Wild Card game.

Then we'll set a new game plan.

Pitching will be key.
GO TO A GAME!! CHEER LOUDLY!!

Fall is here.

10 degree temp drop in TX = Fall.

Or maybe it's just... Football = Fall.

Either way. Fall is here. Football is here. And I'd still like to enjoy postseason baseball. Wearing a hoodie to Rangers games is so fun!! Makes me feel like I'm back in the Northeast.

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
