DO IT FOR DURRETT 2017

If you don't know who Richard Durrett is, he was a writer for the Texas Rangers. He sounds like an amazing man, and so many of his sports colleagues and players he covered think the same thing. Click here to read a few short articles and watch a clip about Richard's life and the family he left behind.

His beautiful wife started this foundation and has partnered with the Texas Rangers Foundation to make this event bigger and help more families in need.

Why am I posting about this? Well, I love baseball, yes, but I love people more.

A beautiful woman, Lindsay Pugh, attends church with my parents in Rockwall, TX. My best friend and I met her on a trip to Kenya in 2013, where we traveled for two weeks to orphanages, slums, schools and churches. All to see hearts changed and tangibly meet the needs of others. Lindsay did this with a smile on her face and the greatest laugh! She missed her family while we were there, but she knew she had a heart to help in Africa too. Her husband Brandon sounded like the most amazing and supportive man. I only met him once, but my parents were blessed to know him, as were many others. Similarly to Richard, when Brandon was taken from this world, we were all in shock. And still are to some degree.

Here is an excerpt from the Do It For Durrett Website about Lindsay and Brandon Pugh.

Rest assured the event will have the typical Do It For Durrett flair and a special guest or two. There will be a live and silent auction, with $50,000 going to the family of Brandon Pugh, who was killed in an automobile accident earlier this year. Pugh, who lived in Poetry, is survived by his wife Lindsay and children Henley, Macie, Reese, Rylie, Braden and Cati. Reese was also injured in the accident, which happened returning from baseball practice, but is expected to make a full recovery.

“We are honored to be this year’s recipients,” Lindsay Pugh said. “While we didn’t know Richard, we know the kind of life Brandon lived and it sounds like they were similar in their love for their families. This will help us, and we’re so happy the foundation has stepped in to assist.”
Tickets for the event are on sale now at doitfordurrett.com. Tickets are $75 for reserved seating and $50 for general admission and will be mailed to the buyers. All ticket prices include game ticket, dinner and an event T-shirt.
If you are able to buy a ticket for this years event and support this amazing foundation and the work that they are doing to provide for families like my friend Lindsay and her 6 kids, please come and share in this wonderful night! If you can't make it to the event, you can make a cash donation here as well.

We cannot bring Brandon back, but we can let Lindsay know how much she is loved. She is not alone and these beautiful kids are not alone either!! God sees them and if you are in a similar place in life, He sees you too! I pray that this foundation is blessed for the work they do and the families they help!

I know most of you read this for Rangers news... we have a rough road this week... from the looks of tonight's game, it's not going to be easy! However, I am proud of how Hamels has come out of the gate. We just need everyone else to get on board! I am out of town for a week, so if they play great, I'll stay out of the country. (just kidding)

p.s. Beltre is out for a while. Tears. But his dancing bobble head was a huge success at tonight's game. They keep showing it on the broadcast. Ha!

2017 NFL Draft... in Philly (womp, womp)

Round 1 - Thursday, April 27th - 7 PM CST
Round 2 & 3 - Friday, April 28th - 6 PM CST
Round 4-7 - Saturday, April 29th - 11 AM CST

Why is this thing in Philly???? It's torture to watch!!! I keep muting my TV. I can't hear the Eagles song anymore.

And I'm not the only one...

This may be the GREATEST thing I've ever seen. Please WATCH this video of Drew Pearson introducing the Dallas Cowboys 2nd Round draft pick. No one even notices who we picked because Drew Pearson tore apart the most booing crowd in any sport! I was so fired up!!!! I may use this all season long!! It's our new Cowboys fight song!! Move over E-A-G-L-E-S... we have the 5-time World Champion Dallas Cowboys on stage!!!

Here is the Drew Pearson interview after his announcement. WATCH. I've watched it 20 times. Soooo good! And he has a good point, the Cowboys better deliver when they play the Eagles in Philly this year on December 31st... last game of the Regular Season. Bring it On!! @88DrewPearson #CowboysDraft #NFLDraft #CowboysNation

Here is who we have acquired so far... Taco, Cheeto and Jourdan. Someone on Twitter said Chidobe goes by Cheeto. I'm really hoping Jourdan goes by Jello... then we will have the main course, snacks and dessert. As long as they are decent dudes and play well, I'm in!

And it looks like Taco and Jello will have fun playing together again in Dallas! Going from Jim Harbaugh to Marinelli!

Random Info:
ESPN Layoffs.

I'm so sad that ESPN did so many layoffs!

I have grown up watching Sports Center. It was mostly clean, sports news. What I like hearing about.

I know they're trying to get more in line with digital outlets and how news and info has changed, but is it sad that I miss the reruns of Sports Center in the mornings? Why did they change it to a Morning Show? I will turn it to NBC if I want to see that. I want sports. I liked having the line up on the side of the screen and knowing exactly what was coming next. I miss Scott Van Pelt, Steve Levy, Neil Everett, Stan Verrett, Hannah Storm and a few more. I love those guys and have to DVR late night SC if I want to see them.

It has gone in a direction that I don't even follow as much as I used to. But I don't think it's because the times are changing, but ESPN changed.

Bottom line, I still have Mike and Mike on in the background at the gym or in my living room when I'm getting ready in the mornings. But I miss my daily line up of sports news on SC and the random side jokes when the Top 10 are announced. Now the #SCTop10 are PC plays that make everyone feel good about themselves. One female sport, two soccer plays, one or two hockey plays, then football, baseball, one high school play and maybe basketball or golf? It's so weird and means nothing now days. People used to wait for #SCTop10 like they do Lee Corso's headgear pick! Sad to see it all go.

Here are some of the tweets from ESPN employees that were let go. So sad. I wish I could give them a hug and tell them it will be alright.

And props to the guys still on ESPN who have lost a lot of good friends this week and are doing the NFL Draft. Not sure it was the best timing, but these guys are keeping it together. Good job!

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
