Week 3: Chicago Bears vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ Rangers Clinch AL West ~ Colorado Estes Park

COWBOYS 1-1 (wins-losses)
Sunday, September 25th
Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears (home team is second)
7:25 PM CST on NBC

We defeated the Washington Redskins LW, 27-23.

Dak Prescott, our backup QB for Romo and Rookie, completed 22-30 passes for 292 yards. I feel like he keeps getting better and better. His presence in the pocket is becoming more and more assertive with our wide receivers and running backs. And he only had one rushing attempt, 6 yards for a Dallas Cowboy Touchdown!!

This Weeks Matchup...

We get to play the Chicago Bears in Dallas!

Did you watch Chicago last week on Monday Night Football? They lost 29-14 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jay Cutler, the QB for the Bears did NOT have his best game. He used to play in Denver, back in the day, and I would have him as my fantasy football QB. One week, 32 points, the next week, 14. You just never know with this guy. Most people like the way he throws. He has like a baseball/football throw. But none of that worked for him Monday night.

He went 12-17 and threw for 157 yards, before getting hurt. He has a thumb injury. And his top Wide Receiver, Alshon Jeffery, has a knee injury. Both our doubtful to play in Sunday night's game. Bryan Hoyer is the backup QB for Cutler.

As for the Cowboys...

We've lost 8 straight games at home without Tony Romo.

So as much as I believe we can beat the Bears, we need to bring our A game!

Funny fact, the Bears, along with many other teams in the April NFL Draft passed on drafting Dak Prescott. The Bears passed on him 3 times in the 4th round.

Last week, he (Prescott) finally connected with Dez Bryant... 7 receptions for 102 yards. Finally.

Ezekiel Elliott (RB) has yet to play up to expectations. Our backup RB, Alfred Morris, 6 years older and a former Washington Redskin, is waiting in the wings for his opportunity in the RedZone or mid-field.

Noteworthy Injuries:
~ Orlando Scandrick (CB - cornerback - defense)
~ Tyron Smith (OT - offensive tackle)
~ Tony Romo (our QB) started throwing this week and is taking it day by day. He's been out since Week 2 of the pre-season with a compression fracture in his back. Something that can heal on it's own, but it still makes me nervous, for his life, to come back to physical contact in the NFL. But, this is Tony and his families choice. We will see how it all plays out!

GO RANGERS!!! 92-63
WE CLINCHED THE AL WEST TITLE
2nd in MLB (6.5 games behind Chicago Cubs in 1st and have clinched)

I've watched every Rangers game the past few weeks... they wait until I leave town Friday morning to clinch the AL West Title Friday night... who cares!!! WE WON!!! HELLO WIN COLUMN!!

We went 2-3 vs. the Angels, in a few dicey games from the officiating side of things.

And Sunday we have the chance to sweep the Oakland A's.

Darvish had 9 K's and Elvis Andrus had 2 home runs in Saturday's shut-out of the A's... 5-0.

Now that we've clinched the Playoffs, what is the strategy?

1) Do we rest players for the postseason? Most likely, but you don't want to lose chemistry.
2) Do we need to re-evaluate our pitching? YES! Derek Holland is now in the bullpen for the rest of the season. He has 7 wins and 6 losses on the season, since coming back from injury. His ERA is .504 for the season and .653 for September.
3) Do we have home field advantage? YES!!! That's the best part about clinching early!

Now last year we clinched this same title. But things did not go as well as we hope they do this year.

Our offense is scrappy. We've added a few new guys to the roster that were GREAT acquisitions. Lucroy, Beltran, Gomez, and Jeffress who just re-joined the team this week.

We got this.

Here is a link for the entire postseason schedule. Just in case you need to plan a trip or two around being in town for the games!

Teams who have clinched a playoff spot: Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals.

Colorado is BEAUTIFUL right now. If you can get a cheap flight up here... come visit!

*my flight was only $136 on aa.com*

We got to go to Estes Park today and saw a lot of Elk. Then the most beautiful yellow Aspen trees. Topped off with a little snow. Yes, it snowed on us in September. As someone coming from Texas heat and humidity - it was quite lovely!

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
