COWBOYS
Sunday, September 11th
New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys (home team is second)
3:25 PM CST on FOX
Jerry Jones has had a big week. He's gearing up for his 27th season as the Cowboys Owner and GM. So, he buys a helicopter. To fly back and forth from The Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX to The Star practice facility in Frisco, TX.
There is a lot of traffic in Dallas now. Worse than it's ever been. All of our highways are being expanded to 4-6 lanes on each side of the highway, yes, 12 across in some places. Too many people are moving here! It feels like LA traffic now. So, Jerry had to buy a faster mode of transportation!
If he ever wants to pick me up from my office and fly me home in order to avoid 40 minutes of traffic to go less than 20 miles... I'll take him up on it!
Forbes magazine also named The Cowboys the Most Valuable Sports Team of 2016 with a Value of $4B.
And we haven't won a game in years. A playoff game, that is. The ones that count. (I know we won one in 2014, but it was still a sad year).
So, for all of you true fans out there, the ones who don't wear pink Cowboys gear... hang in there!
GAME TIME
The Cowboys named Dak Prescott the Week 1 starting QB (quarterback). In 3 pre-season games, he went 39/50 (pass completions/attempts), for 454 yards and 5 TD's (touchdowns).
Backup QB's: Kellen Moore, Mark Sanchez, and Tony Romo (not really, but they have to keep him on the 53 man roster). So the link on Mark Sanchez is the GQ ad that he did in 2011. The white pants kill me. Ha! There's a long story behind it, but I thought the ads were a bit cheesy and a friend of mine thought he looked hot. Needless to say, the USC star has bounced from team to team and has landed in Dallas. We needed a guy with NFL experience and not too expensive. Plus, the Minnesota Vikings already picked up Sam Bradford, OU alumni. (They have Adrian Peterson, also OU alumni, they needed to reunite them, I guess).
Ezekiel Elliot, also a rookie, is our starting Running Back. This kid is making a lot of promises, the outspoken type. But I hope he plays up to the hype! I've wanted this kid in Dallas for the past two years! He has some hamstring issues, but with our offensive line and Dak being able to run from the pocket, he should stay healthy!

It is September 11th on Sunday. Most NFL games will be played on this day. We all know this day. As someone who lived in New York for a while and heard stories first hand, saw the ruins of the twin towers, and watched the area near Wall Street slowly come back to life. It is a heavy day. The City is quieter than normal. If you have a chance to visit NYC, I recommend you visit the 911 Memorial. Honor those who lost their lives, and keep praying for their family members and all of our service men and women.
The best thing about our country right now is that we're talking. You know, in a relationship, if there isn't honesty and transparency, it's probably not a great relationship. Tell the truth. Even if it hurts.
I am glad that ESPN hosted a Town Hall meeting with professional athletes to talk about what is going on in our communities. We need to listen to one another and take big steps towards each other.
I do think it's sad that the posture some NFL players are taking is towards the National Anthem. Just coming off an Olympic Summer, where many athletes, from the United States, had tears running down their faces as they earned the right to hear their nations anthem resound in those stadiums, by defeating all other opponents. Simone Manuel, US Swimmer, told Mike and Mike that the National Anthem is their fight song. They listen to it in practice and dream of the day they will hear it play when they've won a gold metal.
My hope is that those in the NFL find other methods to get their point across. I'm sure they have benefited greatly from being an American. Not that we don't still have work to do.
MATCHUP
Sheesh! Can we get to game time??? I'm done talking. All sports from here on out!
We play the New York Giants this week.
The first year where there is only one Manning brother playing in the NFL since 2003. (Peyton retired last year, remember, he won the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos and is now in every TV commercial on every channel).
WR (Wide Receivers) ~ The Giants have Victor Cruz back, but he's prone to injury. They still have Odell Beckham Jr. The guy who made the one-handed catch, or 3-finger catch?? Yeah, they have that guy, against our broken down secondary. They also have Sterling Shepherd. A guy that many have underrated, but I'm predicting to be another big threat. (Maybe because I have him in 3 fantasy leagues).
What do the Cowboys have to do?
Dak has to make smart decisions. Get the ball to Dez, Witten, Beasley, Williams, or Butler. And of course, pass the ball off to Elliott. Our backup RB (running back) is Alfred Morris. He's spent the last 4 years with the Washington Redskins. Not gonna lie, the guy looks better then most people expected. You may need him as a bench player in your fantasy league for bye weeks.
Our Defense... we are not expected to be good this year. Not like we were last year, but we're supposedly even worse. Rod Marinelli is getting creative with our D! He has to be in order to make this thing work. I expect us to play zone a lot. We don't have the talent in the backfield to go man to man for very long. We also need our Offense to stay on the field for a decent amount of time in order to give our D a rest. Once again, why we are thankful for the run game! Best way to manage time, run the ball.

GO RANGERS!!! 83-58
1st in AL (We're 1 game ahead of the Cleveland Indians)
2nd in MLB (7.5 games behind Chicago Cubs in 1st)
After tonight's game in LA, we have 20 games left. Darvish is pitching tonight.
Y'all... it has been a long 7 games. We lost 4 of those 7 games with these starting pitchers: Darvish, Hamels, Griffin and Holland.
Our team looks tired. I don't blame them. 162 games is a lot! They've played 142 games so far. I'm tired just typing that number!
All the more reason to go out and support them when they're back in town!
HUNT FOR OCTOBER... check out this site. It tells you what the outcome would be if the season ended today! I'm such a nerd, these stats are so fun to read.
The Hunt for October isn't a prelude to The Hunt for Red October... it is the 162 game race to make it to the MLB Playoffs and ultimately the World Series! Once you've experienced Fall Baseball, you never want anything but that!
If we ever get to experience winning Fall baseball and winning Fall football at the same time in Dallas... we'd have to quit and become hockey fans because all of our dreams would have come true.
Who we play down the stretch: Angels, Astros, A's, Angels (again), A's (again), Brewers, and Tampa Bay.
Good news... we know how to beat the Angels and A's. Bad news, the Astros are only 9 games behind us in the AL West. Not that they can close the gap, but they will want to take us out. So will the Angels and A's... but we can't let them. Those teams are only playing to keep us from succeeding. None of them will make it into the Playoffs. The Angels and A's are last in our division, as in, 22 games behind us.
Power... this is is a great article in the Dallas Morning News about Rougned Odor. He has 30 home runs this season, despite his physical appearance being quite the opposite of most home run hitters. I love it when guys defy the odds! And I love that we have a team with character!! There is no one-size-fits-all in life or in sports! We all have great purpose! I hope we live it out!
Our team is back in town on the 16th... here's the schedule until then...
