Dallas Cowboys NFC Wild-Card Playoffs ~ Mavs win streak with Rondo ~ Family

GO COWBOYS!!! PLAYOFFS!!!

NFC WILD-CARD PLAYOFFS - Detroit Lions vs Dallas Cowboys
(remember, the second team is at HOME)
Game Time: Sunday, January 4, 2015 - 3:40 PM (CST)

We made it to the Playoffs, for the first time since 2009!!!!

First things first, let's all agree on one thing... Tony Romo (our QB) is a different player now than the was back in 2009. I assume personally, we are all growing in maturity, but even more so in his ability as a QB. This is, hands down, his best year ever! Similar to the way Peyton Manning came back from neck surgery last year and... took his team to the Super Bowl!! :)

I believe a few things have factored into Romo's elevated play...

1) Jason Garrett is not the Offensive Coordinator anymore. Bill Callahan is this year, and as my dad pointed out, Romo seems to be more controlled and strategic in his decision making and execution of plays.
2) Anyone would be better behind the Offensive Line we have this year! Jerry Jones isn't known for getting us guys we need in the Draft every year. (Read this blog post if you want to know more about the NFL Draft). However, he did his homework, or the guys he pays did, when it came to Zack Martin. He started in more games at Notre Dame than any other player in the history of their program, which began in 1887. Crazy. Dude is tough.
3) We finally have a run game... named DeMarco Murray. We haven't rushed for this many yards since the 80's and early 90's Cowboys. A balanced Offense, where your QB has options and isn't forced into making poor decisions. It's working for us as a team and it's really working for Romo!
4) Football is his only sport this year. No one can argue that Romo is a natural athlete. Dude is good at almost any sport he plays. But, to finally have him put golf to the side and focus on football is nice to see. It may have taken two back surgeries to get him there, but it's good it finally happened! Golf can be played until you're in your 90's... he'll have plenty of years to enjoy being a scratch golfer, as most of us will only ever dream of!
5) Our Defense came out of now where this year! I'm pretty sure if you asked even the most optimistic fans about our D - they wouldn't have ranked them inside the top 20. Having this D show up for us they way they have this year has helped keep Romo off the field and given our Offensive Line much needed rest during each and every game!

Our Entire Team has rallied together this year! It's fun to see guys finally having fun playing Football!! They get to play a game for a living, which makes it so depressing when they walk around defeated and mopey. Everyone and every team goes through tough seasons, but we've been in a long drought here in Dallas.

***The Game This Week***

The Detroit Lions. This team reminds me of one thing... Home Improvement, with Tim Allen. Remember, the old TV show?!?! Hidee Ho Neighbor!! Watch this as a refresher

Anyway... Matt Stafford is their QB. He's from Highland Park in Dallas. Friends with Clayton Kershaw... and I'm pretty sure this dude will have a ton of fans cheering him on at the game this weekend... all while hoping the Cowboys win. Talk about a dilemma!!! But, it's a firm rule in sports, cheer for your team over individual players. Just how it is.

They have a few weapons... but Calvin Johnson is their beast. We have Dez, they have Calvin. Carr and our entire Secondary will be double-teaming this dude all day!

Detroit's Defense... They rank #1 in the NFL against the Run! This means, they are first out of 32 teams at knowing how to stop the DeMarco Murray's of the world. Their leader is a dude named Ndamukong Suh. I've never met this guy personally, but as a player, he plays dirty. He's known in the NFL for stepping on players, especially QB's. It's borderline ridiculous that he gets away with everything he does. This past week, he stepped on Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers QB, got suspended, then appealed the suspension and won. RIDICULOUS!!! So, our O-Line will have their biggest challenge yet! They haven't backed down from anyone, well since getting whooped by the Redskins in October. I believe they're up for the challenge.

Bottom Line: If "The Boys" play as hard as they've played the past 6 games and carry the momentum they have into Sunday, I believe they will win. Detroit has flaws in their Offense that Dallas doesn't have. We need our Defense to make big plays, a Pick 6 would be nice! ("Pick 6," where a dude on the Defensive side of the ball, intercepts the ball or picks it up after a fumble and scores a touchdown for 6 points).

Prediction: Dallas Wins... 34-17

GO MAVS!!! 24-10

Rondo... dude went postal in Boston last night! Had a season high 29 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists against his old team. The rest of our starters seem to be enjoying Rondo and his game. He's made a few comments here and there about how he's playing more defense now, etc. We're just glad he's bringing a different style to the Mavs and forcing our guys to be more aggressive!

The Dallas Mavericks have a nice little 4 game win streak going on right now. We play LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavilers on Sunday... so let's just say that will turn into a 5 game win streak!

Random Info:
Family... such and important part of life. Immediate family, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins... nieces, nephews, great Uncles, Grandparents, the list goes on and on.

I get to spend quality time with my family around New Years every year. It's a lot all at once, but it's always fun and reminds me what is really important in life. Time... with people. Work is necessary to pay our bills, be challenged in life, learn new things... but family is rooted in your heart. At the end of the day, what is really there? The people you love.

People are worth investing time into. It is not easy, and family is sometimes the most difficult because you didn't choose them. But, that's almost the best part, you learn very quickly to get out of your own way and just love them for who they are.

We're all in different seasons of life. Love them where they're at. They don't have to love you equally, life's not about you. ha! One day we may all get that concept.

Choosing to love people is something you'll have to do daily. It's humbling and impossible, but God first loved us, so it's not as hard as one may think! You just can't be selfish... minor detail... ha!

Hug someone... it's good for you! :)

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
