Dallas Cowboys Divisional Playoffs ~ Dirk in 7th ~ The Biggest Loser Glory Days ~ @brendantime

GO COWBOYS!!! PLAYOFFS!!!

NFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF - Dallas Cowboys vs Green Bay Packers
(remember, the second team is at HOME)
Game Time: Sunday, January 11, 2015 - 12:05 PM (CST)

So many things to talk about and so little attention span from readers. And myself. ha! :)

Weather: 21 degrees and not as cold as Saturday, which is supposed to be a high of 12 degrees
Record: The Green Bay Packers, lead by QB, Aaron Rodgers, is 8-0 at home. The Dallas Cowboys, lead by QB, Tony Romo, is 8-0 on the road. (First time for two teams with these winning records to face off)
Defensive Rankings: The Cowboys Defense is ranked 26th against the Pass and 8th against the Run. The Packers Defense is ranked 10th against the Pass and 23rd against the Run.
Offensive Rankings: The Cowboys Offense is ranked 16th in Passing yards and 2nd in Rushing yards. The Packers Offense is ranked 8th in Passing yards and 11th in Rushing yards.

Did you see the game last week??? Did you see it?? Well, I was there, with my two lovely sisters. Cheering. Screaming. Throwing our hands over our faces in disbelief. Then high-fiving one another as the Cowboys charged down the field to score 17 points in the second half. Our Defense started making tackles again. Lawrence recovers a fumble only to lose it. Romo throws to Williams, for him to miss the play action pass only to catch the next one for the score. Lawrence sacks Stafford. Game over! Or shall I say, Game on!!

What does it take to play good, bad, good, bad, GREAT? A lot of heart and toughness! You have to want it so badly that you are willing to forget every bad shot, every missed tackle, every penalty and make the next play 100%. I've never played football to this degree, clearly, but I can only imagine what it takes to drive the team, play, after play to get the W.

Aaron Rodgers may be the best QB in the NFL. Well, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are up there too. Tony Romo is up there, but Rodgers has had a supporting cast for years and didn't miss a beat when he took over for the legendary Brett Favre in 2008. He later went on to win a Super Bowl with the Packers in the 2010 season. Clinching that title in Jerry World!!! Crazy, huh?? Dilemma .. Rodgers has a torn calf muscle. He has been injured off and on this season. He plans to start the game Sunday, which is the Packers only hope of matching the Cowboys play for play!

MATCH-UP: With a healthy Rodgers, not that Romo is fully healthy, but with both of these guys behind center, our Offenses are fairly similar. Romo and Rodgers are able to sling the ball into their WR's hands at awkward angles, while running if necessary. Advantage Cowboys on their Run game, but Lacey isn't a guy to be messed with either. (That's their RB) As much as we thought the Colts vs Cowboys game would be a gun-slinger shoot-out... that is exactly what I expect from this game!

Both QB's know how to play with heart! Both have supporting casts that are built to win! Their Defense will blitz more and ours will shut down their run game, which will force Rodgers to throw on his injured leg.

"Anything you can do, I can do better," is the mantra of this game!

Bottom Line: It sounds crazy, but I think we can win!!! People keep telling me to not get my hopes up, but I can't help it. This season is just different! If they lose, I won't stop being a Cowboys fan. If that hasn't happened in the past 20+ years, it won't happen now. And trust me, I am fully aware there is more to life than football, but this is a cool year! This team has built something with these new kids on the block and it has been a pleasure to watch them each week! So, unless you're a lucky Cowboys fan in WI this week... cheer in your homes as loud as you can and let The Boys know we're rooting for them!! :)

***GO BIG OR GO HOME***

GO MAVS!!! 26-11

Dirk is the man!!! You know this, but he's now in 7th on the NBA Career scoring list, with 27,412 points! Here's the short list of men above him... only player still playing is Kobe Bryant. (both dudes in all caps is another way to tell the active players)

Roy Tarpley died today, at the age of 50. Sad story for such a great athlete. Too many stories end up like this, and they don't have to.

Random Info:
I get home late from work... try to make taco salad... reach for the baby spinach... which turns out to be baby chard. What? What is baby chard? I'm a spinach girl and am totally confused as to how chard got in my fridge.

Ohhhh... I was on the phone while grocery shopping at Trader Joe's the other day... reached for baby spinach, threw "it" in the cart and went on my way.

Note to self: DO NOT talk on the phone while grocery shopping. Even having a list wouldn't have saved me from baby chard.

***TV SHOW ALERT***

If you aren't watching The Biggest Loser Glory Days this season you should be!!! It's the one with all of the former athletes!! So inspiring and pretty much makes me cry my eyes out every week.

This Thursday is the Finale!! You must tune-in!!! :) They did the make-overs this past week... tears and more tears! So proud of people who take nutrition and physical exercise seriously! It's so much more than just having a "great body" - whatever that is - just be strong and confident! Feel good! No day is guaranteed, so take care of the body God gave you!!

***Ben and Skin***

So, so sad... @brendantime has left the show. Listen to the podcast of his goodbye. He's one of the best parts of what these guys do on the show!! Best of luck Brendan!

***COLLEGE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP***

Y'all, there is so much going on this weekend, it's crazy!

The National Championship game for College Football is being played at Jerry World this Monday Night, January 12th, at 7:30 PM (CST).

Oregon vs. Ohio State

Who do I want to win? I have no tie to either school. Both have cool stories, but for some reason, I think it's really awesome what Urban Meyer has done with his team. He's the coach for Ohio State. He has had three starting QB's this season. 3!!! And still made it this far. That is great coaching, tough players and an O-Line that is able to cover any guy behind center. So, for the sake of what Meyer and his staff has been able to accomplish, I'm cheering for him.

If Oregon wins, I'm fine too. Just want to see a good game!

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

The Masters, in all its beauty ~ Texas Rangers ~ Dallas Mavs ~ Get Outside

The Masters The ultimate Bucket List item and one of the ones that exceeded my expectations. If you play golf, have a family member who makes you watch golf or take naps to golf, you understand that The Masters is the holy grail of golf tournaments. It is the only PGA tournament that is played in the same location every year, Augusta, Georgia.  Thanks to very dear friends of mine, I had the chance to walk through the azaleas, experience the serenity of Amen Corner and watch the players skip golf balls across the water at Hole 16. If they allowed people to sleep on the grass, I would have stayed forever.  We were there for two days of practice rounds, which is fun because the players are relaxed and cut up with one another. They cancelled the Par 3 Contest, which was sad, but just being there was the most wonderful feeling ever. You can't take phones in, so I even called my parents from the phones at Augusta, just to do so. We also didn't realize you could bring in a real camer...
