Week 4: Dallas Cowboys vs. New Orleans Saints ~ Farewell Globe Life Park ~ Rest

GO COWBOYS!!! 3-0 (wins-losses)
Dallas Cowboys vs. New Orleans Saints (away vs. home)
Sunday, September 29th @ 7:20 PM CST

Test #4 comes this Sunday.

We've defeated the NY Giants, Washington Redskins, and the Miami Dolphins. People are saying those teams aren't good enough to give Dallas credit for the 3-0 start. A lot of people are either sold on our team, or think we're going to start a losing streak this week against the New Orleans and next week vs. the Packers.

What does Peyton Manning think? Watch this short clip from his analysis on Dak. He's on board.

Keys to the Game...

1. More Randall Cobb. With Gallup out with knee surgery, Cobb will need to play more of a role, opposite Amari Cooper. The Saints have given up the 3rd most fantasy points to WR's and allowed 436 yards per game (301 of those yards from the passing game). Throw the ball! Just not in the direction of Safety Vonn Bell or Marcus Williams. Williams already has 1 interception (INT) this year.

2. Run the Ball. The Saints are going to rush Dak as much as possible. They have quick Defensive players who have 191 tackles and 52 sacks on the season. More tackles than the Patriots, but 21 less sacks. NE is leading the NFL in Defense... AND Offense. Next topic. Give Zeke the ball. Let him hurdle a few guys, no one get injured, and let's win this thing!

3. The Saints QB. The All-Pro Drew Brees is out with a hand injury. This is super sad because we always want to play the staring guys, if we can. Not that Teddy Bridgewater is bad, he's their back-up QB, who lead them to victory over the Seattle Seahawks last week. He threw for 177 yards with a 70.4% completion rating and two TD's (touchdowns). He will get the ball to Michael Thomas, and we will have to find a way to stop him.

4. Alvin Kamara. The Saints running back. He has 211 rushing yards and 179 receiving yards this season. I fully expect to see him in similar routes you'd see the Cowboys use Zeke in. It will be a fun battle for our D to figure out this new-ish offense without Brees and shut-down the run.

Remember that Dak is from Louisiana. The game is in Louisiana. I have a lot of friends in Louisiana that are Saints fans, and I love it because they cheer for Dak too! Well, some of them. The Mississippi State fans do. Thanks Ric!

GO RANGERS!!! 76-84 (wins ~ losses)

We went to the Red Sox vs. Rangers game Thursday. One last family outing, missing my sister who lives in CO.

It was a crazy game. We watched Danny Santana hit a Grand Slam (home run with three runners on base to get 4 total runs) in the bottom of the 5th inning... only to have the Red Sox hit two solo home runs in the top of the 7th. So, what did we do? Hit two solo home runs of our own in the bottom of the 7th. Thanks to Calhoun and Odor.

Then the fun part happened. None of us in the stadium knew why Mike Minor, one of our best pitchers, was still in the game in the 8th and then 9th inning. He had well over 100 pitches (which is normally around the cut-off), and then our first baseman, Guzman, let's a foul ball drop, right in front of him. We yelled, as only real fans do. Then the next pitch was a strike, to get his 9th strikeout (K) and get 200 strikeouts for the season. Wow. Okay, then we all knew why he was still in the game. Our team is out of the Post-season, but individual stats still matter. Also, it was the first time since 1990 that two of our pitchers had 200 strikeouts in a single season, Mike Minor and Lance Lynn.

Trivia: Who were the two Texas Rangers pitchers in 1990 that had 200 strikeouts?

I also got to attend the Friday night Fireworks game vs. the New York Yankees (not in our season ticket seats). Had a great time with friends, watched a lot of Yankee home runs (6 to be exact), and "teared-up" during fireworks (links below).

I started going down memory lane... and I realized... I have a lot of good memories at the ballpark. Tears.

I don't even think we have photos of all of them, but some of my favorites would include my birthday celebrations there. My parents took my friends and I to the game for my 21st birthday (yes, you read that correctly), paid for me to stand where the sign says "The Ballpark in Arlington" (it used to say that), and then the announcer shouted "The Texas Rangers and Dr Pepper would like to wish Lindsey Overby a happy 21st birthday" - haha! I was, by far, the oldest one up there, but I got an A-Rod bobble head! It was awesome!

Then a ton of my friends and family came out for my 30th birthday celebration. Made the mistake of sitting in the Home Run section, so hot!! But, we were able to go on the field after and that was so fun!! I loved being with all of them!

I'm not a big birthday person, but I'll use any excuse to go see a game. And for years the Yankees would come into town the week of my birthday, so naturally, that became a tradition as well (I lived in NYC for a few years, but don't worry, the Rangers are still my #1 team... the Yankees are #2, and so is Jeter). Another reason I had to see the Yankees play the Rangers one last time in The Ballpark in Arlington.

More memories to come...

There are two Rangers vs. Yankees games left. If you're nostalgic like me - spend the money. Make the memory. Enjoy the green grass and fresh air one last time.

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
