GO RANGERS!!! 19-20
~smile~
8th in the AL (American League)
2nd in the AL West (7.5 games behind the Houston Astros)
What's happening???
The Rangers have been on a 6 game win streak!
Our pitchers have been bringing their A-game! I mean, Martin Perez always does at home, but for real... dude had a great game on Thursday night vs. the San Diego Padres. He only had three strikeouts (K's), but he was pitching 96 MPH in the first 6 innings. Sam Dyson came in to close and get the W, but it was good to see our guys keeping the heat all game!
Offensively... we are rollin'...
~ We have 7 guys batting over .200, Elvis is leading with .289.
~ Joey Gallo is leading the team with 12 home runs, tied for 2nd in the American League.
~ Gallo also has 27 RBI's... ironically, Nelson Cruz leads this stat in the AL with 31 RBI's. Oh how we miss you Nelly (he used to be a Texas Ranger - Game 6... it's like saying Buckner to a Red Sox fan, but I still miss him).
~ Elvis has 43 hits... and he has been clutch when guys are on base. I don't know if it's mental or they just know how to rise to the occasion, but it has been fun seeing these guys rally early in the past few games!
I heard Jeff Banister saying in an interview last week that they are better than how they have been playing. I think we would all agree.
I've tried to think of a few reasons why they've gotten better the past week...
The main conclusion I came up with is... I came back to the United States. You see, I was in Greece for 10 days. I arrived back in Dallas on May 8th, late night, the last game the Rangers lost. I joked before I left that if they lost when I was out of the Country, it proves they need me. Since I've been back... 6 straight W's. Now, let's not be naive, this can't continue forever, but I'll pretend my team knows when I'm here cheering them on!!
Crazy fans are sometimes the best fans! GO RANGERS!!!
Injury Report... Carlos Gomez, our Center Fielder, is out for 4-6 weeks with a pulled hamstring. This happened Sunday, right at the end of this 6 game win streak. Who will replace him?? Here's a quick article on the options. Not sure any of them are good ones, but we'll see. If DeShields can get his hitting up to par - it wouldn't be the worst option. He is great at base stealing.
The Road Ahead... I think we can take the Phillies... but the Detroit Tigers are even with the Rangers. Without Gomez, we'll need everything from everyone!!!

Greece... y'all... this place is beautiful!
A friend of mine invited me on a trip, which I will never be able to repay her for. I just kept saying thank you and will continue to!
We spent a few days in Athens, then moved on to Crete.
As much as we had heard that Athens was unsafe, things were all downhill, etc... it seemed quite normal. Nothing too different than being in NYC or any other major city. We actually spent the first day in Meteora Greece. Crazy beautiful!! We were jet lagged a bit, but it was worth the journey North to see this place.
Then we made it all around Athens in one day. 10 miles and we saw almost everything we wanted to see, and ate gelato twice (my first and second time to ever have gelato). The city is quite pleasant, but it's like Vegas, you don't need more than a couple of days there.
And then there was Crete...
The food was amazing, the people were friendly and views were spectacular. Everything tasted so fresh. The salads we had were all wonderful! Honey vinaigrette on everything, and I even ate the olives there. I do not like olives, but my goal was to try everything that was put in front of me.
All in all... It was pretty awesome! I loved it! I would go back there, if I wasn't such a horrible traveler. Jet lag is a learned art I've yet to learn, but I'm willing to keep trying!
Best part of the trip? Aside from our cab ride in Athens from the airport to our hotel (Fast and Furious style)... the time I got to spend with my friend and her co-workers was pretty fun. Celebrating successes in a place like Greece is quite wonderful! I'm fortunate to have been a part of it all!
Next vacation? Not sure yet... but it can't be out of the country as long as the Rangers keep winning. Clearly they need me.
