Week 5: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ Rangers Must Win Game 3 ~ Fruit ~ Cowboys Golf Club

***I'd like to start by saying that I am praying for everyone in the path of Hurricane Matthew. I am so sorry this is happening and hope you are all able to get to safety. You are not alone!***

GO RANGERS!!!
ALDS PLAYOFFS 0-2 (wins-losses)
Sunday, October 9th
Texas Rangers vs. Toronto Blue Jays (home team is second)
6:30 PM CST on TBS

I was at Game 1.

I watched Game 2 on TV. At work. During Octoberfest.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're going to keep this simple.
Game 3 is a MUST WIN. And 4. And 5.
It's a 5 game series, you have to win 3 games.
Toronto won the first two games, with ease.
What would I have done differently?
Three things:
1. Made TBS give us better time slots. Day games are stupid for Playoffs and I agree with Ben Rogers on the Ben and Skin Show that they should just know that people who want to watch will watch, same as NFL. Multiple games are played at the same time, then as you move on deeper in the playoffs, you single the games out and get the ratings. But no, since Toronto's viewership doesn't count towards US ratings, aka MONEY, we got the crappy time slots. Rude. I'm tired of it.
2. This will sound crazy. But as of the past 6 weeks. The only pitcher that has held his own at home is Martin Perez. I was at his first few games this year, when things did not look good. However, the one thing he does well is get guys to hit ground balls. If you're going to be hit off of, we'd rather it be plays we can field and get outs off of, instead of 3 solo home runs in one inning. Yep, looking at Yu. Toronto got a turkey (bowling joke). It would have been insane to start Perez over Hamels or Darvish... but at HOME, he's been the best we have.
2 1/2. Why did we have to let Nolan Ryan leave. I mean, I love that JD got Lucroy, Beltran, Gomez and all these other dudes. But we didn't need more bats. Or more fielder options. We're loaded. We need pitchers that throw stuff people fear. No one fears our pitchers. Maybe on their best day. Sure. But not consistently. Maybe you just need a name like Bumgarner? Or Kershaw? I mean, Darvish and Hamels sound good!! Lewis sounds a little too nice. Perez isn't terrifying at all. What is it? All I know is Nolan worked with these guys. Not that Cliff Lee was the answer to our prayers. Or Joe Nathan. But man they worked it. I do like Matt Bush and a few other guys in our bullpen, but it's just not enough. Hamels and Darvish should have been pulled in the 2nd inning of both games. My dad brought up a good point that Banister should be able to listen to Lucroy and if he says they don't have it that game, pull them! It's the Playoffs!
3. Don't change things up. Choo didn't have to come back into the rotation. Yes, he made the catch in Right Field that Nelson Cruz could have made in Game 6 and we'd have a title under our belt, but we didn't have to add him in when things were working just fine with Mazara. So Game 2, we add Mazara back in and now it's all off. It feels off. The game Thursday felt like a Sunday afternoon game in July. No luster. No urgency. Here the Blue Jays came off winning their Wild Card game and we're on mental vacation. So sad.
But, what do we do? We still believe!!
COWBOYS 3-1 (wins-losses)
Sunday, October 9th
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Dallas Cowboys (home team is second)
3:25 PM CST on CBS
Who are the Cincinnati Bengals? And can we beat them?
They are a team in the AFC North, who are 3rd in their division with a 2-2 win/loss record, aka, batting 500. (AFC = American Football Conference, the Cowboys are in the NFC = National Football Conference).
QB ~ Andy Dalton. He has red hair that looks almost as orange as the Bengals colors on their jerseys. But he also has a great arm... he's thrown for 1,234 yards (yes you read that correctly, 1, 2, 3, 4), 3 TD's, 66.4% Completion percentage and a 93.8 QB Rating. Not too shabby! I mean, the guy does have A.J. Green as a Wide Receiver. Green is averaging 14.6 yards per reception (that's a lot). If you don't know him, click on his name. He's dominating every Fantasy Football league this year. And no, I don't have him on any of my four teams. Tears.
Defense ~ Do y'all remember this guy named Pacman Jones? Well his real name is Adam Jones. I'm sure the Pacman part is a nickname of some sorts. Dude's chasing colored ghosts somewhere? But, he used to play for the Cowboys. He got into a lot of trouble here and was out of the league for a year or two. He is now on the Defense for the Bengals. He has one interception, one forced fumble, and 19 tackles this season. But their total defense only has 9 sacks, 4 interceptions and 2 recovered fumbles. (There are forced fumbles, as in, you caused the other team to fumble, but then they recovered it, then there are fumble recoveries, where you force the fumble and your defense recovers it - so you now have the ball to give to your offense).
How 'bout them Cowboys????
We are 2nd in the NFC East, behind the Phi_adel_ia E_gles... ugh it's painful to even write out their name.
What is our biggest hurdle this week? Overcoming injuries!!
That may be our life's story, even as non-football players... it's always something... But keep working out and staying strong!! IT IS WORTH IT!
Back to the Boys... who is injured again this week?
~ Romo (but he threw this week)
~ Dez Bryant (I'm still okay with this - less drama and opens up the field)
~ La'el Collins (sad, we need our O-Line players)
~ Tyron smith (another O-Lineman)
~ Orlando Scandrick (Defensive Cornerback - we need him in the mix, but he has hamstring issues... don't go the Miles Austin route Scandrick, heal up fast)
Our Offense is slated against a Cincinnati Defense who has allowed an average of 225.25 passing yards per game and 97.50 rushing yards. They've also allowed a combined 82 points scored against them this year. However, our Defense is about the same, allowing 77 points scored on us, and slightly higher yardage.
So basically, it's a close match-up if you go stat for stat. But, I believe we have the advantage at home and will win in a close shootout with Dalton and Green outstepping us and Elliot outstepping them in the Run Game.
Prediction? Cowboys advance to 4-2 and beat the Bengals 34-28.
Looking ahead...
We play the Green Bay Packers next week in Lambeau Field. Then we have a BYE week in Week 7, and you'll start to hear more and more talk of Romo's return.
Random Info:
Fruit. I have no clue why, but I've been craving fruit so much lately!
I find that the more fruit I eat, the less I crave bad sugar items like Dr. Pepper, Sweet Tea, or any candy of any sort. I'm not a big sweets person, but fruit is definitely doing the trick for my blood sugar ratio!
Last weekend, I helped host one of my close friends baby showers. I was assigned fruit skewers. This clearly played well into my new fruit obsession... so I may have made 60 skewers for less than 30 people. No one went without a fruit skewer, or two, or three, or maybe I even made a few people put some in a cup "to go."
I even had left overs, and can I just say how fun it was to come home and eat a few skewers of fruit?? Ha! I've lost it. The Rangers are losing and it's so sad, so I've turned to fruit. What can I say.
One last thing, here's a chart I got from some random website that I should probably credit, that speaks to when fruit is in season or not. Obviously if it is in season it will be better tasting and most likely cheaper. I'm addicted to Trader Joe's, but it applies to most major grocery stores.
Random Thought #2. I got to play Cowboys Golf Club this week. Beautiful course, but a total reminder that I need more and more golf lessons. The greens are tricky, but very nice.
Oh and there is a direct flight pattern over that course. I felt like I needed to rinse off jet fuel from my skin afterwards. Not to mention it was still super hot that day. Not like the beautiful Fall weather that snuck into Texas Friday afternoon. Oh how lovely it is.
70 degrees and crips air. I love you.
Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO
GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...
Week 11: Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ Mavs ~ Gift Guide for Black Friday
GO COWBOYS!!! 8-1 1st in the NFL (I've died and gone to Heaven) 1st in the NFC EAST Sunday, November 20th Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys  (home team is second) 12:00 PM CST on CBS First things first... the Cowboys are playing amazing football right now! Even sportscasters who don't like the Cowboys can't stop talking about them.  I mentioned last week that we are the most balanced team in the league. When your Offense and Defense share an even amount of time on the field, it is easier to stay fresh and productive. If you leave your D out there too long, they're bound to make mistakes. So even with our Offense being as productive as they are, they are still staying on the field long enough to keep it balanced.  The Cowboys have a total of 219 first downs this season and lead the league at Offensive time of possession, 33:39 minutes ( an NFL football game is made up of 4 quarters, 15 minutes each, a total of 60 minutes ).  ...
POSTSEASON BASEBALL: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Texas Rangers ~ Baseball Etiquette ~ Dallas Cowboys Over-reaction Tuesday
GO RANGERS !!! ALDS PLAYOFFS - THIS THURSDAY It's official... we are playing the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS.  Dang it.  I can't stand the Blue Jays. They have trashy fans. No, literally, they throw trash on the field .  And Jose Bautista is a punk. No one needs your bat flippin' drama!  And we all remember this... Odor punching Bautista earlier this year. Watch . All the sports people are going to have a field day over this. I bet they wish they had given us the evening time slots now! Except that Toronto's TV ratings don't count, eh?  How we win... stay focused. Eliminate the drama. We beat them during the regular season. We can do it again. No hitting batters, no one getting ejected. We need our entire roster in the ALCS. We need to play Texas Ranger baseball. Period. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Games 1 and 2 are this Thursday at 3:30 PM and Friday at Noon in Arlington, TX. Games 3 and 4 are Sunday and Monday in Toronto. ...
