Dallas Mavs ~ Dallas Stars ~ Texas Rangers ~ Girls Basketball

GO MAVS!!! 25-20

We're 3rd in the Southwest Division and 6th in the Western Conference.

We lost Friday night vs the OKC Thunder and our next three games are on the road. Good thing is, we're 12-12 on the road. Maybe that will be 15-12 by Wednesday night.

I'm not too worried about Houston or LA, even with Kobe's farewell tour... but Golden State is always a concern. Steph Curry is averaging 30.1 points per game (3 points more than James Harden, who plays for Houston). And Golden State has more depth on their team than any other roster in the NBA, along with a Hall of Fame Coach in Steve Kerr. He just returned from back surgery, to a team with a 40-4 record, and Curry who shot a triple-double to celebrate (triple-double: when a player scores double digit points in 3 out of 5 categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots)! Yup, this is what we have to look forward to on Wednesday.

Dirk... at 37, is leading our team by averaging 17.7 points per game. He has a day-to-day knee injury, common for him, so we'll see if he plays on the road. Maybe he'll rest up for the GS Game?

Good news... Chandler Parsons isn't day-to-day anymore. Dude is averaging 28 ppg and is 7-12 from the 3-point range. He says he feels healthy and is staying aggressive.

We just need to get to the NBA All-Star break, Feb 12-14. Then we get rest. Well, most of the guys.

GO STARS!!! 30-13-5

2nd in the Central Division and 3rd in the league, with 65 total points scored.

Jamie Benn, #14, Left Wing, is making a name for himself this season. He has 27 Goals, 30 Assists and 12 Power Play Goals. 2nd in the League in points and 3rd in the League in Goals scored.

Tyler Seguin is also playing well for the Stars, which is why he and Benn were selected for the NHL All-Star Game.

The NHL All-Star break is coming up Jan 30-31. For those who like/love Country Music... this year, they'll have a few Singers as celebrity coaches... check out the list here

GO RANGERS!!!
OFF-SEASON

I just wanted to talk baseball for a second.

Close your eyes... wait, you can't read if your eyes are closed... okay, I'm closing my eyes and typing.

If you build it, they will come...

I can see the white lines being drawn on the field, the smell of fresh-cut grass, walking to my seats with nachos in hand and a large Dr Pepper, and the National Anthem begins to play... ahhhh baseball season...

We've locked up Colby Lewis, Jurickson Profar, Robinson Chirinos and Tanner Scheppers for at least one more year.

The deal I'm concerned about, which many may not be, is Mitch Moreland. He ended up with an average season last year, but he came through when we needed him. Like the Rusty Greer of old. We have a month to sign him, so fingers-crossed we will.

Josh Hamilton is battling a knee injury, still, and hopes to be ready for Spring Training!

Speaking of Spring Training... it starts on February 19th. I say I'm going to go every year, but never make it. This year I'll be skiing, so not a terrible trade-off.

Random Info:
9 year old girls... playing basketball...

My oldest sister coaches her daughters basketball team with another mom, this is a new venture.

Today was my first game to watch, and it was great! I've heard the growing pains from game one to this game... but it was wonderful to see these young girls learning the fundamentals of a game that has been played for years.

Not even just the fundamentals of the game, but fundamentals of be a part of a team, something bigger than you. These young girls, who I saw for the first time, were growing more and more confident with every dribble, stolen ball, shot taken and, of course, shot made!

My niece made 3 baskets, which was pretty awesome!! She told me after the game that "she always does that." So cute! It's like she grows up a little more every time I see her.

I love sports for many reasons, and this is just one of them. To realize what you're capable of, on offense or defense; live it out, and encourage others to be their best too!

If you can "assist" them, please do! Hopefully, they make the shot! And if they miss, get the rebound and give it back to them. Encourage them to try again. The buzzer will sound eventually, but the memories live on forever.

If you haven't watched Hoosiers in a while... it's time...

"I play, Coach stays. He goes, I go" - Jimmy

"I know everything there is to know about the greatest game ever invented." - Shooter

"Identify" - Shooter (haha - my favorite)

"Let's win this game for all the small schools that never had a chance to get here." - Merle

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
