GO COWBOYS!!! 11-4
WEEK 17 - Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins
(remember, the second team is at HOME)
Game Time: Sunday, December 28th @ 12:00 PM (CST)
We play the Washington Redskins this week, in D.C.
THIS IS THE LAST WEEK OF REGULAR SEASON FOOTBALL. tears.
Pros:
1. The Cowboys are 7-0 on the road, and this game is on the road.
2. So far, ownership plans to play our starters (at least for the first half of the game).
3. We've already made the Playoffs, and this game only helps us get a BYE in the first round (if we win).
Cons:
1. The Redskins rained on our parade back in October and beat us 20-17 in OT (over-time), so... they know how to beat us.
2. They have a QB complex with RGIII and Colt McCoy, which may prove to be a bit of a challenge for our D. They will most likely play RGIII, but McCoy is the guy who beat us earlier in the season with 299 passing yards.
3. Do we even want to win and get the BYE? (not that a bye is even a guarantee, it would be our small part in helping secure that scenario)
Very rarely in my lifetime will I reference the New York Giants as an example of what I hope we do with our team; however, in 2008, they won the Super Bowl. Yes, they have won two Super Bowls with Eli Manning behind center. ("Behind Center" - the guy who snaps the ball to the quarterback is the Center Lineman - which means the QB stands behind that guy... got it?)
The special thing about the 2007-2008 season is, the New York Giants worked their way all the way through the regular season, got healthy towards the end of the year, and beat Tampa Bay, Dallas and Green Bay to meet the Patriots in the Super Bowl. This was the year that the New England Patriots were 18-0, a PERFECT season. But, the Giants ruined that with a lot of magic and a catch from David Tyree.
This is NOT a Giants blog, I promise, but I do feel like the Cowboys possess some of the same elements that this Giants team did when they pulled off a Super Bowl upset!
I am a fan of momentum. Win, get better, keep winning.
So, do I want all the cards to fall into place and the Dallas Cowboys to get a BYE in the first round of the Playoffs? Not really.
Romo could use an extra week to heal in his rib and back. Murray could use another week to heal up from his hand surgery. Doug Free's ankle may be better by then???
I understand the pros and cons where, so whatever will be, will be! I will be here cheering them on either way!
Bottom Line: The Cowboys will be far more prepared this week to play the Redskins then they were months ago. Romo is in a groove with the Offense, Parnell has slotted in nicely for Free, and Murray seems to follow the same model as most of these guys... "no pain, no gain." Dude is trying to break Emmitt Smith's record this week. He only needs 29 yards this week to break Emmitt's record of total rushing yards in a single season, as a Dallas Cowboy. Pretty awesome accomplishment!!
***Rolando McClain is out. He has an illness and didn't travel with the team to Washington. Our D has to keep adjusting. McClain isn't a huge loss, but we do need him to power through the Playoffs.***
***PRO BOWL: Zack Martin is the first rookie lineman from the Dallas Cowboys to ever make it to the Pro Bowl. The Pro Bowl is the week before the Super Bowl, so as cool as this is, let's hope Martin misses the Pro Bowl for the Super Bowl. Although it is a shame to miss Hawaii for Arizona.***

GO MAVS!!! 21-10
The Dallas Mavericks beat the LA Lakers, 102-98. It's always cool to beat Kobe Bryant and the Lakers... but Friday night - Dirk had 14 points, which was enough to move him up to the 8th spot in the All-Time NBA scoring list!!
He passed Elvin Hayes tonight and his next legend to pass is Moses Malone.
The team has already started to mesh more and more with Rondo. He's already starting to toss alley-oops to Tyson Chandler. Let's hope they get prettier as the season goes on!
