Football = Chess

Dear Readers,

It is time to explain to you the art of football. Some of you may or may not understand why it is so fun to watch? What is the point? There's just a bunch of dudes hitting each other and a wasting three hours of your boyfriend, husband or friends life!

Well... it has occurred to me before and hit me again at work the other day when I was trying to explain football to a co-worker... it's a chess match. Most sports are. In baseball... there is the game itself, then there is the chess match between the pitcher and the batter. In basketball... it's more of a fast paced chess match, but there is always that moment where the dude with the ball has a fast break and there is one guy posted up under the net, trying to stop him from dunking!

So, football. If I geek out on you totally... you could say that it is a literal chess match.

Head Coach = Each Player (you and me)
Queen = Quarterback (can move anywhere and is protected at all times)
King = THE FOOTBALL (whichever player has the football at that time, represents the KING, which, if captured, the other player wins the game
Knights, Rooks, Bishops - Wide Receivers, Tailbacks, Running backs, Tight Ends (guys that run their routes, out route, slant route - legit, right??
Pawns - your Offensive Line (dudes that are blocking up front and trying to take the heat off the other players)

Okay - so maybe you're not into chess. But, if you think about it, that is what most people do in life. You're trying to outsmart the other team, co-worker, etc. So, maybe, if you look at football as a strategy. Guys who memorize plays and are literally playing a live chess match in cool uniforms and helmets... you may have a little more appreciation for the game. These players put a lot of hard work into what they do... yes it looks only physical... but it is so much more than that!

You may never grow to love the game. That comes from a sentimental place inside that no Webster definition or chess match analogy can provide... but the hope is, that one day, you can understand and appreciate it!

(curtsy, and the curtain closes)

GO COWBOYS!!!

The Dallas Cowboys are still in Oxnard, California. Their first pre-season game is this Thursday vs. the San Diego Chargers.

Something happened for the first time since Jerry signed our kicker, Dan Bailey to a long term deal... I agree with a decision he made! I am glad Jerry got rid of Martellus Bennet. This dude just got suspended from the Chicago Bears for throwing a teammate down during practice. I don't know the guy personally, but I'll take Witten and Escobar and Hanna any day!! 1 point Jerry, 1 point.

What to watch for...
Even with Tony Romo coming off back surgery, he has looked pretty good in practices. People are saying his "deep ball" is wobbly... but that is something that will fix itself the more he plays.

Dez Bryant looked like a beast against our Secondary (remember, the fast defense guys who go one on one with the Wide Receivers and Tight Ends). That could be because Dez is a beast, or because our Secondary isn't a beast. Oh how sad our Defense is. Jerry needs to work some magic in the next three weeks to work up some depth in our roster!!

POSTSEASON BASEBALL: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Texas Rangers ~ Baseball Etiquette ~ Dallas Cowboys Over-reaction Tuesday

GO RANGERS !!! ALDS PLAYOFFS - THIS THURSDAY It's official... we are playing the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS.  Dang it.  I can't stand the Blue Jays. They have trashy fans. No, literally, they throw trash on the field .  And Jose Bautista is a punk. No one needs your bat flippin' drama!  And we all remember this... Odor punching Bautista earlier this year. Watch . All the sports people are going to have a field day over this. I bet they wish they had given us the evening time slots now! Except that Toronto's TV ratings don't count, eh?  How we win... stay focused. Eliminate the drama. We beat them during the regular season. We can do it again. No hitting batters, no one getting ejected. We need our entire roster in the ALCS. We need to play Texas Ranger baseball. Period. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Games 1 and 2 are this Thursday at 3:30 PM and Friday at Noon in Arlington, TX. Games 3 and 4 are Sunday and Monday in Toronto. ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Week 2: New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys ~ UNT beat Arkansas ~ Scooter Magruder

GO Cowboys!!! 0-1 (wins ~ losses) New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys ( away team ~ home team ) Sunday, September 16 @ 7:20 PM CST on NBC If you watched the game last week, where we lost to the Carolina Panthers, you have most likely decided to stop watching the rest of the season. It was a rough game. And it makes a lot of people think that first string players should get more reps during pre-season games so your Week 1 game isn't a scrimmage. So, during the " scrimmage ," that was a regular season game, Dak matched Cam Newton ( Carolina's QB ) in passing yards and was pretty close in accuracy. So where did Carolina win? Aside from wearing out our Defense... Newton had 13 carries for 58 rushing yards, allowing him to score one of their two TD's ( touchdowns ). Zeke ( our RB, running back ) had 15 carries for 69 rushing yards and one TD. Carolina out played us in the run game because they're not afraid to allow their QB to run. They converted more 1st ...
