Texas Rangers ~ Yu Darvish ~ Payne Stewart

GO RANGERS!!!

Record... 32-34 (W-L) - we're 4th in the AL West, behind Oakland, the LA Angels, and Seattle.

I'd like to dub this year, the year of injuries. We can't catch a break! (Unless we quickly figure out how to clone Yu Darvish). Here's a quick screen shot of our current DL. (Disabled List

Despite our extensive list of injured players. We still have those guys at the top, who have been carrying our team! Alex Rios, nice looking young man, is batting .329 and has 32 RBI's. (Runs Batted In, means he helped a dude score).

As an offense, we are lacking in Home Runs, but we'll take good base hits and great base running any day! We used to have a guy on our team in the 90's, Juan Gonzales. He only swung for the fences (tried to hit home runs) and was successful a lot of times, but had a lot of strikeouts too. It worked out well that he played with a guy named, Rusty Greer, who was always on base and would become an RBI for Gonzales! (just a little history for ya

As for our pitching... Yu Darvish. You've heard me speak of him often, but he is the type of pitcher who is either ON or off and works to be ON! Well, last night - he was ON! Stats from my friend Andrea, "(He) threw a 96 mph pitch on his 115th pitch of the game. Used 6 different pitches tonight. Threw 117 pitches and 76 were strikes." All of this was to throw his first COMPLETE GAME against the Miami Marlins! (Means he pitched all 9 innings and a Shutout is when the other team doesn't score a run - has a zero on the board).

Next matchup is against Seattle, in Seattle. They are close in wins and losses to the Rangers, but they have an ace that is pitching against us tomorrow night. Mission - beat King Felix! (Felix Hernandez, their ace pitcher who wears his hat sideways).

Random Info:
Payne Stewart. Do you know who this is? This is the man my dad loved to watch play golf on Sunday's! I grew up watching Payne and was probably my first "favorite golfer!" He died suddenly in a plane accident on October 25, 1999.

Not only did Payne dress in the coolest of fashions, but he seemed like a really classy guy. A guy you'd want to be your dad, your role model and a friend. I never met him or know anyone who did, but I can only imagine how nice he was and hope to meet him one day (in Heaven)!

The U.S. Open Championship is this week in Pinehurst, NC. Rickie Fowler, OK State Alumni, is wearing knickers today, in honor of Payne, classy move. Phil Mickelson is currently in the lead and is probably a bit sentimental about this course, this tournament and how Payne beat him in 1999.

Payne Stewarts greatest victory was at Pinehurst. He beat out Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh for the Victory in 1999, shortly before his death. Click this link and scroll to 1999 - watch the video - tears

His son, Andrew Stewart, plays golf for Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. Here is a story of Andrew and how he's carrying on his father's legacy.

Hug someone!

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Dallas Mavs ~ Texas Rangers ~ Thoughts on the Super Bowl ~ Dallas is Freezing

Dallas  Mavericks 13-14 (wins-losses) I feel like we've been on a rollercoaster with the Mavs, but I like the direction we're going now. As for how NBA and NFL players feel about our cold weather... that's a funnier story. The Mavs longest stretch of losses was six games in mid-January. It was not fun and the team looked confused as to why they couldn't pull out a win.  A few guys have been out, off and on, due to illness or injury, but now they're all back and are rolling. Especially Kristaps Porzingis .  They keep joking that he's playing how he did back in September 2020 when they were in the NBA bubble, before his knee injury. Now that he has healed and is playing more minutes per game, he has been on fire! To see a 7'3" guy drain 3 pointers like he does is amazing. I mean, if he raises his arms, they're already above the rim, so he just has to put the right arc on it and swish. So cool!  His stats vs. the Pelicans in Friday night's victory:...

The Masters, in all its beauty ~ Texas Rangers ~ Dallas Mavs ~ Get Outside

The Masters The ultimate Bucket List item and one of the ones that exceeded my expectations. If you play golf, have a family member who makes you watch golf or take naps to golf, you understand that The Masters is the holy grail of golf tournaments. It is the only PGA tournament that is played in the same location every year, Augusta, Georgia.  Thanks to very dear friends of mine, I had the chance to walk through the azaleas, experience the serenity of Amen Corner and watch the players skip golf balls across the water at Hole 16. If they allowed people to sleep on the grass, I would have stayed forever.  We were there for two days of practice rounds, which is fun because the players are relaxed and cut up with one another. They cancelled the Par 3 Contest, which was sad, but just being there was the most wonderful feeling ever. You can't take phones in, so I even called my parents from the phones at Augusta, just to do so. We also didn't realize you could bring in a real camer...
