March Madness ~ Rangers Opening Day ~ Mavs ~ Cowboys

March Madness

Sweet 16: March 27-28

Elite Eight: March 29-30
Final 4: April 5
Championship Game: April 7

Check the current bracket!!

I still have Florida winning it, but should have picked Michigan to go farther than I did.

I have a feeling Dayton may be the Cinderella story this year. Looks like Baylor is going to lose to Wisconsin tonight. Sorry Bears fans! Just visit the Dr Pepper Museum in Waco and everything will be okay! 10-2-4

GO RANGERS!!!

Opening Day!!! This Monday, March 31st is the Texas Rangers first home game of the season (that is what Opening Day means)!

They play the Philadelphia Phillies in a three game series, March 31 - April 2. But, for Opening Day - the pitching duel will be between Cliff Lee (former Ranger, whom most of us still wish was a Ranger) vs. Tanner Scheppers. This is quite a random choice for a starting pitcher; however, Derek Holland is still out with his injured knee (he ran over his dog), Yu Darvish has a stiff neck (but doctors cleared him today), Matt Harrison still has a stiff back, and Colby Lewis still has issues with his elbow.

The main question is, why not start Martin Perez? He started 20 games in 2013 with a 3.62 ERA and pitched 124.1 innings. Scheppers had a 1.88 ERA, with ZERO starts and pitched 76.2 innings. Humm... starting off the season perplexed, but the good news is, Perez pitches on April 1 vs. Burnett.

Do you know what ERA means? IP? RBI? SO? Don't worry - as the season goes on, I'll explain these in detail. But to get you caught up for the ERA stat... it's Earned Runs Average. When a pitcher is hit off of by a batter and someone scores - it goes against the pitcher (aka, not a good thing). The lower the ERA, the better a pitcher is, because less runs were scored while he was on the mound. Got it? :) Comment on here if you don't, and I'll try to do a better job explaining it!

(I got to stand where Ron Washington stands during the games - I'm a nerd)

Make sure to follow the Texas Rangers on Twitter! https://twitter.com/Rangers

Single Game Tickets are now on sale!! Remember - it's Derek Jeter's last year to play for the New York Yankees! So if you've never seen him play in a Yankee uniform - you may want to splurge for those tickets!

GO MAVS!!!

Mavs record is... 43-29... they have dropped to the 9th spot in the Western Conference. 12 1/2 games behind San Antonio.

The Mavs played the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night. They won in overtime, with passion!!! They played this game like it was a playoff game... and according to Dirk Nowitzki on Ben and Skin, he doesn't want to start planning his Summer vacation just yet.

Despite them holding off Westbrook and his flopping camp he put on... the Thunder still remain 2nd in the West, with San Antonio leading the pack.

Random Thought... I watch Sports Center most mornings, and there is hardly every anything about the Spurs on SC! Ever! Clearly I'm a Mavs fan, but still... I hear about the Miami Heat and LeBron James more than I hear about any other player and team. It's exhausting. When they're good, you hear about them. When they're bad, you hear about them. If Kobe hadn't gotten hurt so early on, I'm sure we'd be hearing about the Lakers too. Bottom line, I don't care about LeBron or the Heat... I want to hear about teams that are winning and making it into the Playoffs!

Mavs chance of making it into the Playoffs... good. Not great, but good. They play the Clippers tonight. Cheer loudly! :)

GO COWBOYS!!!

Just wait for the draft. The free agent signings have been depressing.

NFL DRAFT... Thursday May 8 - Saturday May 11

Random Info:
With Opening Day this week... it's time to start smelling the fresh cut grass! Drive with the windows down and crank up your walk-up song! What would your walk-up song be?? I love this game! :)

I'm watching the E60 featured film right now, called PERFECT. In baseball, this means a Perfect Game. What is a Perfect Game?

No base hits. No walks. No hit basemen. No one gets on base in any way possible.

A Pitcher, pitches all 9 innings, "perfectly."

Only 23 Pitchers in the history of baseball have accomplished a Perfect Game.

My oldest sister, Lauren, attended Kenny Rogers Perfect Game on July 28, 1994 at the old ballpark. She will never forget that moment!! (Kenny pitched for the Texas Rangers from 1989-1995, and now lives in Westlake, TX with his family.

Yu Darvish almost had a Perfect Game last year against the Houston Astros. Ugh, gut wrenching. April 2, 2013. 8 2/3 inning, base hit by Marwin Gonzales. Heart sinks. He had 111 pitches, 14 strike outs and no walks.

There's no way to predict these games, but everyone dreams of them. To pitch one. To catch one. To play on the field during one. To be in the stands. Even if it is happening to your team, you end up cheering for the other Pitcher. It's an unspoken wish for all of us to experience a glimpse of greatness.

And that's why we love sports.

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
