GO MAVS!!!
Mavs record is... 35-23... 3rd in the Southwest Division, but still 8 1/2 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder... aka, Kevin Durant! (dude played ball for the University of Texas and has scored 25 or more points in the last 22 games he's played... insane!)
~ Whoa... the Mavs are on a roll! What did I tell you... get past the All-Star break and then they turn the heat up! (not the Miami Heat... so over hearing about them!)
~ Dirk is now averaging 21.7 points per game. Marion is starting to take some of the pressure off Monte Ellis and become more of a force in the paint. ("In the paint" - this is the area below the foul line, between the two lines leading to the baseline under the basket... got it? It's the yellow space on this diagram I found!)
~ Do you follow the Mavs on Twitter? Are you on Twitter? I suggest if you plan on taking your new found love for sports seriously, you get on Twitter and start following your favorite players. Or players I tell you to follow. :)

GO RANGERS!!!
~ It is Spring Training - Officially. This, in addition to the Super Bowl, are on my bucket list. I've already gone to two World Series games. (None of them lead to a WS Title... sad face.) And I have attended many regular season games, but I've never made it to Arizona for Spring Training.
~ What's going on in SURPRISE, Az? Well, Ron Washington's contract as our Manager got extended for one year. Colby Lewis finally seems healthy! (this was one of our best pitchers in 2012) Our new catcher from Toronto, J.P. Arencibia, likes the new collision rule that the MLB put in place to protect catchers and runners from trying to tackle each other at home plate. And... our pitcher, Matt Harrison (aka, Matty H), has been cleared to play! Whew, we have had our share of random injuries within our pitching roster!
~ Big Announcement for Opening Day... Yu Darvish will be the starting pitcher! I love this! And I love the article that I linked this to, because they talk about Yu's first outing. I was at that game with my best friend. It was rough through the first 4 innings, then GAME ON, dude pulled it out!
Here is my favorite sign from Darvish's first game at The Ballpark, April 10, 2012.

GO COWBOYS!!!
Did you know that today, it has been 25 years since Jerry Jones has owned the Dallas Cowboys. Cry if you will, tears of joy? tears of sadness? tears of the reality that even at 70 years old he will continue to drive us into the ground of no hope and despair? The Dallas Morning News put together this timeline of Jerry! It's full of photos and is pretty cool. Sad, but cool.
~ I was the kid who had Back to Back posters on her wall in her bedroom, the one with Emmitt and Irvin on it. I wore the Dallas Cowboys sweatpants outfit, with the word Cowboys down the leg and the hoodie that matched. My parents recently gave me a poster they found in their house, what to do with it now? Not sure, but it is sad that my only memories of the Cowboys being a winning team are from Junior High.
~ I listened to Jerry and his son Stephen talk on the Ben and Skin show today. (follow them on FB and on Twitter... Ben and Skin and listen to the full interview here.) It was about what I expected. Jerry and his pride. Jerry and his brilliance. Jerry and his marketing. Jerry and, well, Jerry.
~ Most of what he said focused back on him. He did briefly mention the Salvation Army campaign that they support each Thanksgiving Game. I thought that was a nice touch, and it's cool his daughter gets to head up that cause!
~ Jerry still loves Romo and thinks we have to try to win with him. He said we're out of reach from drafting Johnny Manziel. He will probably go in the top 3... thanks to a coin toss, we have the 16th pick in the 1st Round of the NFL draft. Too far down in order to get a new QB.
~ The one thing that made a lot of sense is that the early success Jerry had when he bought the team and won 3 Super Bowls, convinced or deceived him into believing it was an easy task. That a lot of money, a handful of great players and primetime TV slots was all it took to win. Almost 20 years later, we're still reminiscing on those days. Aikman, Irvin, Emmitt, Moose, Deion, Alvin Harper, Bill Bates, the list goes on and on. I know where I was when Irvin got hit in Philly and carried off the field on a stretcher and they cheered him. I know where I was when the Cowboys won their 3rd Super Bowl in 4 years (the New England Patriots aren't the only team to do that)! It's been a long road and a fun one at first. But aside from still enjoying the game itself, it's not that much fun to watch the Boys these days. (If I were technical, I would have created a video with Jerry singing Justin Timberlake's Mirrors song.)
p.s. My favorite interview on Ben and Skin was this guy... listen!
He mentions Quincy Carter (a past QB for the Dallas Cowboys). I worked at Houston's Restaurant in college. Quincy would come in often, around 9 pm, and eat a salad at the bar. He would always talk to me about school and sports. He never stuttered when he talked either. Maybe the media made him do that. Sad he couldn't stay away from drugs and keep his head in the game. He should have listened to McGruff the Crime Dog! Either way - he was a nice guy and our first shot at a "scrambling QB!"
Random Info:
~ Will the cold weather ever end? I hope so! My skin needs the humidity and I don't have a trip planned to Florida any time soon!
Outdoor activities to do with the family... or alone:
1. Golf
2. Top Golf
3. Driving Range
4. Putt Putt
5. Driving the cart while other people play golf
If you haven't gotten the hint... you should really get into golf! It is the hardest, most stupid, frustrating, amazingly simple yet overcomplicated sport ever! Why would anyone want to hit a tiny white ball into a hole? For the Love of the Game? I guess it's why anyone would play any sport!
The PGA Tour season is under way! Bubba Watson, also on Twitter, won his first tournament since winning the Masters in 2012. Speaking of, The Masters, is on April 10-13 this year. We'll chat more about that as it approaches.
I just watched Seven Days in Utopia again. Great golf and life movie! I love Robert Duvall who is the lead character.
I also watched Finding Forrester. A great movie with Sean Connery, it's about basketball and will gear you up for the NBA second half and the NCAA March Madness tournament that is coming up!
Enjoy the weather. Enjoy your movies. Enjoy sports. Enjoy the people around you. Enjoy life.
