GO MAVS!!!
Mavs record is... 32-22, ranked 3rd in the Southwest, 6.5 games behind San Antonio and 2.5 games behind Houston!
~ They won tonight with Monte Ellis knocking down 23 points and 9 rebounds. Dirk and Monte are leading or team in scoring, but they also play the most minutes. The one thing we still can't figure out... #DEFENSE! It is getting ridiculous!
ALL-STAR WEEKEND: what is this? Well, this is mid-season in basketball, half-time, if you want to put it in football terms. All of the players take a break from the regular season, the best of the best come together for one weekend.
Events include:
Friday Night - Feb 14th
Celebrity Game - click the link to see the Celebs list. This is similar to a Celebrity Golf Tournament. No one expects them to play well, they just throw them out there, laugh and make some jokes! So basically, if you have a spouse, don't ruin your Valentines dinner just for this event. This is one live sporting event that I approve of you using DVR for. (DVRing live sports is pointless, especially if you have ESPN alerts on your phone or have family and friends who post on social media. Just saying.)
Saturday Night - Feb 15th
3-Point Challenge - 8 dudes shoot as many 3 point shots as they can, clearly trying to win. (3 point shot - this is from the big arch looking line on the court) I am picking Stephen Curry to win this one! He's the Golden boy (he also plays for Golden State), and I've kinda been a fan of his since he was in the NCAA Final Four with Davidson!
Slam Dunk Contest - there are 6 players who do crazy dunks, fly in the air, jump over cars and typically jump over people. This is the most entertaining event and the one you can't miss! 7:00 PM CST - $20 bucks says John Wall is going to win this (no - you don't really get $20 bucks, it's just a phrase).
Sunday Night - Feb 16th
63rd NBA All-Star Game - this is similar to the Celebrity Game, but with real players. It's the Eastern Conference against the Western Conference. Assuming you're a Mavs fan, cheer for the Western Conference! Dirk will be working his magic on the court, along with the NBA's best player - Kevin Durant! (you may know this dude if you're a UT fan or an Oklahoma City Thunder fan) Dude is averaging 31 points per game!! Legit!
~ Go see a Game... they play downtown at the AAC! Remember what I said - games after the All-Star break are MUCH better! Most teams crank it up a notch! So, maybe we'll find our Defense in the second half of the season?

GO RANGERS!!!
~ What did I tell you about Nolan. Making friends in Houston seemed a little too sneaky. If you missed this news, Nolan Ryan now works for the Houston Astros. Retirement my foot. I can't blame him for wanting to work with his son who is in the Astros organization. Jon Daniels wouldn't bring him to the Rangers, so Nolan went there. My one thought remaining is, what will happen to all of the Nolan Ryan beef that is sold at the ballpark? Is that like breaking up and not taking down pics of your ex? Or still wearing his sweatshirt he gave you? Sad. Just plain sad that JD and Nolan couldn't work it out.
~ On to the next... SPRING TRAINING is under way!!! What is Spring Training? In layman's terms... it is the countdown to the regular season. It is when the pitchers and catchers report to daily practice, eventually the whole team. Here is a great article on the current rotation we're looking at... read on.
~ Random side note: Remember, a while back, when I told you the Rangers were better at drafting than the Cowboys (ahem, Jerry Jones)? And the Rangers "drafted" Russell Wilson, who is now a Super Bowl winning QB! So, it's all just for fun at this point, but Wilson has an open invitation to Rangers training camp, if he gets bored and wants to come! Odds are he won't, but if he does - there will be a mini-media circus in Arlington. (I'm refusing to call it Globe Life Park)

USA! USA! USA!
Are you watching the Olympics?? I don't know what it is about them, but I get so addicted! I've never really been a soap opera girl, or a reality TV chick, but give me 16 straight days of X-Games meets Ice Dancing and I'm all over it!
Here are the highlights so far... in my opinion, but I'm no Bob Costas...
Yulia Lipnitskaya... the 15 year old Russian Ice Skater... simply beautiful and extremely flexible! The song she skates to is called, "You Don't Give Up on Love" by Mark Minkov - it is an absolutely beautiful song, from the movie Schindler's List.
Watch her skate!
Meryl Davis & Charlie White represented the US in Ice Dancing. Their short performance to My Fair Lady was refreshing! I never knew I could enjoy watching ice dancing, and by the end I found a small tear in my eye. (maybe because no one fell and I find my self holding my breath for them) Side Note: they remind me of Disney Characters, in a good way! :)
Watch their short performance!
Sage Kotsenburg... from Utah won the Men's Slopestyle Gold! This is the first time they've had an X-Games event in the Olympics (aside from the half-pipe)! So awesome! Dude won Gold! First Gold of the Olympics and first for the US!
Watch his gnarly ride!
I saw a bit of the women's luging this morning while I was getting ready for work; however, I have no clue what it means to "drive" one of those things? I'm looking into it... I'll get back with you!
In the meantime... starting watching Men's Hockey... and enjoy the rest of the games!
