Texas Rangers Opening Day ~ Dallas Mavs and Dirk ~ March Madness ~ Rollerblading

GO RANGERS!!!
Opening Day!
Thursday, March 28th at 3:05 PM CST

What a great day this will be! The Rangers are playing the Chicago Cubs in our home opener this year!

It is the last year at our stadium! The stadium built in 1994. The year that Kenny Rogers threw a perfect game and my oldest sister was in attendance. July 28, 1994. Rusty Greer caught the final out in left field.

The stadium that the Disney movie "The Rookie" was filmed in. Yes, I cry when he gets to run out on the mound.

A lot of changes have been made to our roster this year...

1) We have a new Manager. Jeff Banister was replaced with Chris Woodward, former 3rd base coach from the LA Dodgers. Most articles say that they chose to go with Woodward because of his communication style. Banister must have been old school and that doesn't go over so well with young kids. So yeah. I'm officially old.

2) Beltre retired. So sad. No more dancing at third base or dancing in the batters box. No more hit records, unless Joey Gallo can get the bat going. Cabrera replaced Beltre at 3B. He's good, but I'm not sure I'm ready to see a new guy over there permanently.

3) Pitching. Opening Day is Mike Minor, lefty, (Rangers) vs. Jon Lester, lefty, (Cubs). Lester has a World Series ring. Minor wants one. As does every Rangers player and fan since we were born. Saturday we're against Darvish. Sunday we're against Hamels. Welcome home boys, but you're with the other team...

Jon Daniels poured "some" money into our pitching rotation this year. However, not many changes will be made until next year, when we get our new stadium. He acquired four new starters... Lance Lynn 3.57 Career ERA (from Yankees), Drew Smyly 3.74 Career ERA (from Tampa Bay), Shelby Miller 3.83 Career ERA (from Arizona), and Edinson Volquez 4.42 Career ERA (from Miami).  Smyly, Miller and Volquez are all coming off Tommy John surgery. Daniels rolled the dice on these guys, we'll see if it pays off!

4) Walk-up songs... my friend told me that Elvis Andrus was planning to use "Baby Shark" as his walk-up song. Then, I saw this article posted on the Rangers website. Confirming this rumor. Plan for this song to be stuck in your head on the entire drive home!

5) Veteran outfielder Hunter Pence is on our roster! Check out this article about his stats during spring training. Pretty cool!

A lot of changes also happens with the rules this year... it's like the MLB and the PGA got together and decided to switch everything around. Pitchers have to pitch half an inning or at least to three batters now. You can leave the flag in the hole while putting. I'm all kinds of confused. But as the season goes on, I'm sure we'll see these new rules play out.

Here's a quick hit list of the MLB rule changes. I'll share more about the PGA changes as we approach THE Masters.

GO TO A GAME!!!! This is the LAST season in this beautiful stadium. Next year it's air conditioning, turf, and pretty things. Ugh. Not real baseball. But, it worked for the Astros. So, bring on the fancy stadium. We all just want a WS tile. Check out renderings of the new stadium in this link

GO MAVS!!! 29-45 (wins ~ losses)
So, we haven't done much since the All-Star break and the trade deadline. Which is one reason I haven't written very much since February.

We've won 3 of our last 19 games. Not good. With as much star power as we have, we should be able to win more than this!

The coolest things that have happened, aside from Luka Doncic being amazing, is all of the love for Dirk. Most teams he's playing against are giving him a farewell tour, despite Dirk not yet confirming if he is going to retire or not.

Doc Rivers, with the LA Clippers, stopped the game to honor Dirk and his career! Classy moment and something I've never seen a coach from the opposing team do for another player.

So two main things we're all waiting for as Mavs fans.

1) Dirk's decision to retire or not.
2) Does Luka get Rookie of the Year instead of Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks)?

Here's an 8 minute highlight reel of Luka. He has 7 Triple-Doubles (where you score double digits in three of the five statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots), tied for 3rd in the NBA for Rookies (along side Magic Johnson).

Clearly my vote is for Luka!

Our final game of the season is on Wednesday, April 10th vs. San Antonio. I wonder what they will do for Dirk? C'mon Pop!

MARCH MADNESS

Y'all. I lose this badly every year. So, why try to win it now?

Who do you have winning it all?

I chose Duke and Purdue as my Championship match-up on Monday April 8th!

Who's my winner? Purdue! Why not! Go Big or Go Home!!

I mean, UCF almost took Zion and Duke out! I figure Purdue can find a way to do it without having a 7 foot guy on their team!

Happy Big Dance!

Random Info...
It is official.

I am going to start rollerblading again.

I know, I'm probably "too old" for this. Or "It's not 1992" for this. But, it's a great exercise and is better for me than running.

Here's a list of the benefits of "inline skating," as the hip kids say it nowadays.

The largest question is... do I wear the helmet, knee pads and elbow pads?

More to come as this venture unfolds...

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

The Masters, in all its beauty ~ Texas Rangers ~ Dallas Mavs ~ Get Outside

The Masters The ultimate Bucket List item and one of the ones that exceeded my expectations. If you play golf, have a family member who makes you watch golf or take naps to golf, you understand that The Masters is the holy grail of golf tournaments. It is the only PGA tournament that is played in the same location every year, Augusta, Georgia.  Thanks to very dear friends of mine, I had the chance to walk through the azaleas, experience the serenity of Amen Corner and watch the players skip golf balls across the water at Hole 16. If they allowed people to sleep on the grass, I would have stayed forever.  We were there for two days of practice rounds, which is fun because the players are relaxed and cut up with one another. They cancelled the Par 3 Contest, which was sad, but just being there was the most wonderful feeling ever. You can't take phones in, so I even called my parents from the phones at Augusta, just to do so. We also didn't realize you could bring in a real camer...

Week 13: Dallas Cowboys vs. Minnesota Vikings ~ NFC East ~ NFL logo quiz

GO COWBOYS!!! 10-1 1st in the NFL 1st in the NFC EAST Thursday, December 1st 7:25 PM CST on NBC We've NEVER won 10 consecutive games. Ever.  We lost our first game of the season to the New York Giants, by one point. And oddly enough, they are still the ghost we're trying to run away from and secure our playoff spot with only 5 Regular Season games left.  Here is what the NFC East looks like going into Week 13...  The Minnesota Vikings... what should we fear?  The Vikings are in the NFC North Division. They currently trail the Detroit Lions for a spot in the playoffs. They have only won 1 of their last 5 games, which makes this Thursday night, showtime game, a must win for the Vikings!  4-1 at home, The Vikings meet the Cowboys who are 5-0 on the road. Oh how I love those odds! Forever in our favor this season.  Quarterback situation. Sam Bradford is the starting QB for the Vikings. A guy they got in the o...
