MLB All-Star Game ~ Texas Rangers ~ Watermelon

GO RANGERS!!! 41-55 (wins - losses)
It's been a while... since we last talked. Work, Summer, Life... all good things, and all things that keep you very busy!

And just because I've been busy, doesn't mean I've stopped watching baseball. My family and I have attended seven of our ten game season ticket package, and we're excited to see what happens before the trade deadline so we know who we'll see when we're at our next game in August.

MLB Trade Deadline... July 31st.

This means that any team trying to make it to the Postseason is looking to get players that can help fill gaps on their team. Likewise, teams that won't make the Postseason this year, the Texas Rangers, are looking to get money from teams so we can go get good players ourselves.

It has been speculated that the Yankees and a few other teams are interested in Cole Hamels, our starting right-handed pitcher, with an 4.36 ERA. Hamels started his career with the Philadelphia Phillies and was with them for 9 full seasons. They traded him to the Texas Rangers in 2015, but they are also a team that has been rumored to want Hamels back.

A few other players that have been rumored that they may be traded are: Shin Shoo Choo (RF - Right Fielder), Robinson Chirinos (C - Catcher), Mike Minor (LP - Left-handed Pitcher), and a few others.

One guy that they made clear they're keeping is Isiah Kiner-Falefa, rookie catcher. He has made himself immovable behind home plate and has thrown out three of the five baserunners that tried to steal (as per this article). He's 23 years old, born in Honolulu, HI. This season he's batting .251, with 24 RBI's and 7 stolen bases.

Shin Soo Choo

We all joke that players, MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, any sport... plays better when they are on the market, and so far, it's true.

Check out this list of players that are all rumored to be traded by 7/31

Of course Choo is on that list with his now, 50 game on-base streak, which is not easy to do. Only 50 other players have an on-base streak of 50 or more. And within this streak, Choo had an 18 consecutive hitting streak too. You can get on base multiple ways, walk, error, hit, hit by pitch or catchers interference... but to get a hit, you have to hit. Much harder to do, but clearly neither of these records are easy or more players would have them.

Learning to be patient and the ultimate team player is something that this on-base streak shows, and something I hope the Rangers don't let go of.

Choo broke Julio Franco's record in 1993, 46 games on-base, as the Rangers DH.

Thoughts...
Watermelon...

When I was at a Farmer's Market, a sweet girl helped pick out a watermelon. She said choose a round one and not oval, and make sure it has a large, white, sun spot.

So far, she's been correct! Every watermelon I've picked that looks like that has tasted great!!

Dirk Nowitzki ~ Dallas Cowboys Free Agency ~ Texas Rangers ~ Selection Sunday ~ Loveland, CO

GO MAVS!!! 27-36  (wins - losses) Dirk, Dirk, he's our man... if he can't do it... no one can!!!  Well, only 5 other guys can and have.  Dirk is now 6th on the all time list of NBA players to score 30,000 points . This is a crazy accomplishment. He's played over 1,300 games in his 19 year career with the Dallas Mavericks.  His commitment to this team and to our city has been life changing for many. He does a lot in our community through the Dirk's Heroes Foundation . Fundraising and giving grants to non-profits in our community and around the world that are making an impact in the lives of children and families in need.  Back in the day, the Mavs games were fun to watch with the " Three J's " - but we didn't win a lot, and we never thought we would make it to the playoffs consistently, much less to the NBA Finals. ( Three J's: Jimmy Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Jason Kidd - here's a funn...

Over-reaction Monday Week 8

GO COWBOYS!!! Cowboys lose to the Detroit Lions... 30-31 This game was a bit crazy. If you ever wanted to know about football, all it entails and how crazy people are for watching it and loving it... this a great game to watch!  Bottom line...  ~ Detroit Defense - they did a great job stopping our offense. Passing and running. They held Tony Romo (our QB) to 206 yards, which 110 of those were on 2 TD passes. And they held Joseph Randal (our RB) to 14 carries for 26 yards. ( aka... not good ) Ndamukong Suh - Defensive Tackle for the Lions, is a crazy man. Literally. He had his D ready today.  ~ Matthew Stafford - Detroit's QB that is from Highland Park, played for UGA. He played well... The kid threw for 488 yards and had a very sneaky TD at the end of the game to win it for the Lions. Detroit's Offense completed 29 1st downs vs. Dallas' 13 1st downs. ( there are 4 downs in football... which means you have 4 chances to get the ball 10 yards, running or ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 9 ~ MAVS

GO COWBOYS!!! Dallas beat the Minnesota Vikings 23-27! Yaya! We are now 5-4 (Wins -Losses) ! Whew. If you've watched most of the games this season, or any season - you'll know that almost all of them come down to the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. That's just part of sports.  Here are the few "over-reaction" stats you'll need for tomorrow...  ~ Adrian Peterson ( Vikings RB ) - He did what he always does. Run over the defense. He is from TX and had over 80+ fans at the game cheering for him. He also lost his son a few weeks ago to a tragic accident. He looked like he was playing with more heart today than in the past few weeks, but our D held them overall. He did have a spectacular TD run... he is an amazing athlete!  ~ Tony Romo (our QB) - threw the ball 51 times. That is a lot! He only completed 34 of those passes. What does that mean? Well, it means he did well with what he has. He spread the ball between all WR ( Wide Receiver ) options, had ...
