Texas Rangers ~ Do It For Durrett ~ US Open ~ Father's Day

GO RANGERS!!! 32-33
10th in the AL (American League)
3rd in the AL West (12 games behind the Houston Astros)

Let's Go Rangers!!!

Watching the Rangers this past week was far better than watching the NBA Finals! It was more exciting, my team was winning, and it had nothing to do with Lebron or KD.

We won 5 out of 6 games on the road. We swept the Washington Nationals, currently 4th place in the NL, and won two out of three games vs. our rival Houston Astros. They are still in first place in the AL. The closest team is the New York Yankees, only 5 games back.

One name you need to know after this road game series...

Austin Bibens-Dirkx... he's a 32 year old rookie, worked his whole life to play in the majors, gets called up, and wins the first two starts he has for the Rangers.

His performance in Washington on Sunday was clutch. He started off allowing a 386 foot home run to Goodwin... then he locked it in. He pitched 94 pitches through 7 innings, 59 were strikes and two strikeouts, and held an ERA of 3.28. He may not be the next Clayton Kershaw, but he's good enough to be in the majors!! Especially on our team where we need starting pitching! Read more here about his story. The movie The Rookie was made for this guy!

Oh, and he faced Max Scherzer... dude has 7 wins, 4 losses, a 2.36 ERA, and 124 strikeouts. But none of that mattered Sunday night. Bibens-Dirkx and the Rangers got the W.

This season, the Rangers have played 12 games vs. National League Teams, we've won 10 of those 12 games.

What are the differences between the American League (the one the Rangers are in) and the National League?

In the American League, they use a Designated Hitter (DH) instead of having the Pitcher bat. In the National League, the Pitcher bats and they do NOT have the DH position.

What happens when the Rangers played in the Nationals ballpark? Our pitchers batted in the line up in stead of the DH. When a National League team visits Arlington, they use a DH instead of their pitcher batting. Good times. Looks like we win more when our pitchers bat!

We don't play another NL team until July 24th, vs. Miami. Post All-Star break. And we only play 8 NL teams in the second half. We're going to need a lot more than 8 potential wins to catch up to the Astros and Yankees. "Clear the mechanism."

Speaking of... the MLB All-Star weekend is Sunday, July 9 - Tuesday July 11. The Home Run Derby is on July 10th. I secretly hope Joey Gallo enters!! Watch, this never gets old... Josh Hamilton at the Home Run Derby. 28 home runs!!! I miss our old team... (observe a moment of silence).

Who is coming off the DL and IR (Disabled List and Injured Reserve)??

Mike Napoli started rehab Thursday night in Frisco. He's been dealing with a back soreness and we hope to see him in Arlington by this weekend. However, this poses a lot of questions for Rua, Profar, Gallo, Hoying and DeShields. Carlos Gomez is also returning to the line-up. Jeff Banister has a lot of work to do for his 25 man roster!

Cole Hamels is pitching Friday night, June 16th, for the Frisco Rough Riders. He has been recovering from a strained right oblique. Hopefully his starts go well in Frisco, we should see him in Arlington by early July. Or after the All-Star break, that makes more sense to me.

GO TO A GAME!! Even though it's hot, they are still fun!

DO IT FOR DURRETT - If you don't have plans Friday night - come out to the Ballpark and participate in the Do It For Durrett Silent Auction!! They help raise money for families who have lost loved ones through tragedy.

We are supporting one of our family friends tomorrow night, and would love for everyone there to give back to this foundation and support all of the families they are able to help through the memory of Richard Durrett. Thank you!

US Open

Yes, there is baseball on this weekend, that is at night.

During the DAY... on Saturday AND Sunday... rearrange your plans to watch the US Open. If you're getting your Dad a gift, maybe you plan dinner on Saturday night? Let the man watch golf on Sunday. Just a thought! That's what I would want on that day. Ha!

Phil Mickelson had to drop out of the US Open, his daughter is graduating from High School and he went to hear her commencement speech. He's going for the Father of the Year award.

This is the first Major Tournament played without Tiger or Mickelson since the 1994 Masters

Rickie Fowler is currently leading the pack. Did any of you watch him today? He was locked in. Every shot was a great shot. He looked calm and confident! I loved it! Everyone else who was favored has to get on the ball Friday if they want to catch Fowler. Spieth finished +1 and Dustin Johnson (DJ) finished +3 over par today.

Random Info:
Sunday is Father's Day!!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL OF THE FATHER'S OUT THERE! I hope you know how important your role is in your family structure... as your wife's teammate, and your children's #1 confidence builder. You set the tone for your family. I hope you are loved and encouraged to lead well.

I am thankful for my Dad. He is a loving man! He coached us girls when we were young, and is still trying to coach is as adults in life! He loves God, serves our family and his community! He loves helping people, and that may be my favorite thing about him! Life isn't about us, right Dad! :) Hug Someone!!

I also want to acknowledge that this day is hard for some. We lost my Uncle a couple of years ago, and I know the Durrett family misses their father, Richard. Our friend Lindsay misses her husband and amazing Father, Brandon Pugh. Life doesn't always make sense, but that is why we rally around one another and meet tangible needs where we can. You are not alone! God is with you and we are with you too! Joshua 1:9

POSTSEASON BASEBALL: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Texas Rangers ~ Baseball Etiquette ~ Dallas Cowboys Over-reaction Tuesday

GO RANGERS !!! ALDS PLAYOFFS - THIS THURSDAY It's official... we are playing the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS.  Dang it.  I can't stand the Blue Jays. They have trashy fans. No, literally, they throw trash on the field .  And Jose Bautista is a punk. No one needs your bat flippin' drama!  And we all remember this... Odor punching Bautista earlier this year. Watch . All the sports people are going to have a field day over this. I bet they wish they had given us the evening time slots now! Except that Toronto's TV ratings don't count, eh?  How we win... stay focused. Eliminate the drama. We beat them during the regular season. We can do it again. No hitting batters, no one getting ejected. We need our entire roster in the ALCS. We need to play Texas Ranger baseball. Period. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Games 1 and 2 are this Thursday at 3:30 PM and Friday at Noon in Arlington, TX. Games 3 and 4 are Sunday and Monday in Toronto. ...

Over-reaction Monday Week 6

GO COWBOYS!!! The Cowboys are 3-3... ( Wins are always the first number - Losses are the 2nd number ) - we're batting .500 folks! We Beat the Redskins!!! 16-31 :)  This was a great game!!! The Cowboys fought hard, and Tony Romo (our QB) played with a similar intensity as he did last week. ( The competition wasn't nearly as pressing, but he still got the job done! ) Good job Romo! He was also able to hit all of his WR's again! If the Offensive Line continues to give Romo time ( Cowboys fans have been whining about this for years ) - he should be able to produce a few more W's! ( "W" - Win )  ~ Dwayne Harris (WR) - this guy is fast! That's all you need to know. He plays on our Special Teams roster, and returns punts. He is always fast and can juke the defensive players very well. Scored a TD ( touchdown ) in this game and came close to scoring a second one! Props to Harris! ( "Special Teams" - so, there is the Offense, Defense and then the S...

The Masters ~ Texas Rangers ~ Paleo Ice Cream

The Masters Augusta, Georgia. That's all you have to say to a golf fan and they'll sigh. Probably because going to The Masters is on their bucket list. As it is mine. (image from The Saint) Golf is a ridiculously challenging sport. If you do not play golf, it's hard for you to imagine the difficulty of hitting a small ball into a small hole in the ground. It may even seem silly to you, but then I'd challenge you to look at every sport out there and name one that doesn't seem semi-ridiculous. As for The Masters and Amen Corner , it's a tradition. I grew up watching this tournament at our home with my Dad, Mom and two older sisters. It's where champions are made! I even remember the years Tiger Woods was starting to play. All of high school and college, for me, he dominated this tournament and so many others. Crazy to know he's playing again this year, at 42 years of age. Maybe I still have time to become a pro? I'm not partial to Tige...
