PLAYOFFS!!!
Green Bay Packers vs. Dallas Cowboys
3:40 PM CST on FOX
Y'all... the Packers are coming in Hot!
We had a good enough record to bypass the "Wild Card" Playoff weekend last weekend. So while our Cowboys were resting and healing up, the Packers slowly destroyed the New York Giants, in 11 degree temps at Lambeau Field (their home field in GB). They won 13-38, which puts their win streak at 7 games, averaging 31.8 points per game and holding their opponents to an average of 17.8 points per game. Sheesh.
History Lesson...
The Cowboys played the Packers in Week 6, winning 30-16. This was after Aaron Rodgers made his infamous statement in Week 4 telling Green Bay Packers fans to R-E-L-A-X. But they did beat the New York Giants in Week 5, and then again in the Playoffs last week.
So, if history is on our side...
the Packers beat the Giants twice this season
the Giants beat the Cowboys twice this season
the Cowboys have already beaten the Packers once this season and this Sunday would be twice
Who's on first.
Playoffs...
The Dallas Cowboys are playing at Home!
No, I won't be at the game. Even if I was crazy enough to pay $800 for a ticket... I don't have friends crazy enough to join me. And since my last playoff adventure in 2014 left me with nachos poured down my back in the top top top level and my two sisters dying laughing at me... I decided to watch the game at home and save the money and dry cleaning bill. Even though I will desperately wish I were there. (don't worry, now I laugh WITH my sisters about this). :)
Back to the game... The Dallas Cowboys have a 14-8 record in the Divisional Round of the Playoffs. Much better than the Packers with a 6-9 record.
Experts give the Cowboys a 65.4% chance of winning. Vegas has favored the Cowboys by 4.5 points. Home Field Advantage typically adds three of those points, so they're assuming we will win by 1.5 and the 12th man will get them the extra 3. Or Dan Bailey's foot. (He's our kicker and is 84.4% accurate in 2016).
Green Bay...
Aaron Rodgers is one of the best Quarterbacks in the league. He's made 9 playoff appearances in his 11 year career. And according to Wikipedia, he holds the NFL record for most passing yards (423), touchdown passes (4) and total touchdowns (5) by a QB in his first Playoff Game.
Hummm... who would be playing his first playoff game this week? Sean Lee? Actually that is true. Dude is always hurt and he finally gets to play in his first game! But it is someone else too... ohhhh, Dak Prescott. It's his first everything this year. And I don't think he'll ever forget that his first Playoff Game is with the Dallas Cowboys and vs. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Timeless rivalry. And classy organization.
Rodgers and his offense have off the chart stats during the back half of the season. Like I said earlier, they have won 7 games straight and are looking to make this their 8th. On the road or at home, they have found a way to win.
The biggest blow to their offense is the loss of Jordy Nelson, Rodgers #1 Wide Receiver. It is sad that he was injured last week in the game vs. NYG. He took a shot to the ribs and they're not going to risk playing him.
The Packers are ranked 8th in Passing Yards in the NFL. This is definitely a set-back, but they are good enough to spread the ball and get down the field. And they still have Randall Cobb, not too shabby.
Their Defense is not ranked highly vs. the Pass, 29th, but they are 9th vs. the Run. Looks like we have a major advantage because Zeke runs and catches. Gotta love that kid.
Green Bay will come in swinging! Do not expect for this to be an easy game. This is as close to playing the Patriots as it is without playing the Patriots. We've got this!
Dallas Cowboys...
I'm SO EXCITED to see how they do!! I'm almost 100% sure they are going to win! I know Dak and Zeke have to calm their nerves. But even the players who went through two rounds of the Playoffs in 2014 have to keep it all under control. I have to keep it under control too.
In the game vs. the Packers in Week 6, the way we took out their offense was turnovers. Our Dallas D forced 5 fumbles and we recovered 3 of them. Morris Claiborne played a huge role in this game; I hope he is able to play this week despite his groin injury! We need as much help in the secondary as possible. If we keep pressure on their WR (wide receiver) corp, we'll force them to run and shut that down with Sean Lee and other Defensive Linemen.
As for Dallas' offense... Dak was able to throw for 247 yards and 3 TD's in Week 6. He also threw his first interception (INT), but we're not going to remember that. He hit up Cole Beasley a lot in that game, and made great contact with Williams, Butler and Witten too. Dez Brant didn't play that week. I've yet to decide if that is a good thing or not. But it doesn't really matter, Dez is playing this week and we have to trust the play calling by Scott Linehan (Offensive Coordinator).
How we win...
1. Don't force the ball to Dez.
2. Force turnovers and get pressure on Rodgers.
3. Run the ball vs. the Packers 9th ranked D vs. the Run. (Zeke is stronger)
4. Scream and yell at your TV.
5. Wear your Dallas Cowboys gear.
6. Get Dan Bailey field position within the 50 yard line.
7. Free up Beasley and Butler. Use the little guys.
8. Own the clock.
9. Don't get caught watching the paint dry. (what movie?)
10. Don't let Jerry Jones on the sideline.
GO COWBOYS!!
Tony Romo... What a game he had against Philly, two weeks ago. They put him in for one series and he scores a TD to Terrance Williams. I never doubted him and the fact the he can still play. It's always bittersweet to see a new guy come in and do well, while you have a guy like Tony on your team. Injuries and all. Here is a wonderful article about Romo and his life. I don't know what will happen with him and and Cowboys, but I do know that God's got him. Football is fun, but it's always bigger than that!

Oh, the wonderful world of Costco...
I was fortunate enough to get a membership as a Christmas present from my parents.
As a single person, I don't typically buy in bulk. However, I have had a recent obsession with kiwi. They have a huge tub of kiwi's for $7. Crazy!! I'll eat 3 a day and only log one or two in My Fitness Pal. I live life on the edge.
My sister also got me addicted to the frozen bags of Kale and Quinoa mixed. That is some good stuff! I can get 3 meals out of it.
So, instead of making family members meet me there and buy these few items with me... I now have free reign to walk in there, all alone... kind of scary.
I never thought I'd be afraid of the fluffy pillow bin at Costco for $25. Or the greatness of the random puffer blanket that my family now owns 10 of. Don't get me wrong, they totally make sense and are great products, but no one went to Costco looking for that.
Now I have to budget an extra $50-70 a month for Costco Random. Not a column title I've wanted to account for. But, I guess this is part of growing up and learning to say no, or yes, or no, or yes. Normally I struggle like this at Anthro or Nordstrom, but Costco?
So to all of you who have been Costco shoppers for years... I hope you have tamed your addiction of sample grazing and mini gingerbread muffins as I am learning to. (Seriously, the best gingerbread muffins ever).
Happy and Healthy Shopping!
