GO RANGERS!!! 63-46
1st in AL (With our win tonight, we're 0.5 games ahead of Cleveland)
3rd in MLB (4 games behind Chicago Cubs in 1st)
JD made some trades this week before the deadline Tuesday.
We didn't get starting pitching, but we did get a relief pitcher who proved to be worth his paycheck tonight, Jeffress, from the Brewers.
We also obtained Carols Beltran from the NY Yankees. Normally we're giving the Yankees players and paying their salaries for years on end. So this is a first. Beltran will primarily DH for us, with Prince Fielder out for the season with a neck injury. I heard JD talking about this trade and he kept talking about how Beltran is 39 years old and gives us even more veteran experience in the post-season. I'm pretty sure he skipped August and September and only talked October baseball when talking about this guy. So, clear your calendars. We're going to some playoff games and hopefully a World Series!
The main guy we got is also from the Brewers... Jonathan Lucroy. 30 year old catcher, who is batting .296 and has 14 HR's. He hit his first HR with the Rangers tonight in Baltimore. Jeffress also pitched the 7th inning, which was scoreless.
After listening to the press conference with JD. I felt a lot more comfortable with the fact that they didn't get a starting pitcher. He reminded the media, and myself, that a great catcher makes pitchers better. True. If you don't pay that much attention to the game of baseball, the calls for what pitches and plays are coming from the dugout to the catcher or sometimes just the catcher. He's like the QB in football. Kind of.
Anyway, to get the 3rd best catcher in the league and have our injured starting pitchers return (Darvish, Lewis, Holland)... not too bad of odds my friends. I have hope for this season!

OLYMPICS
Can you believe the Olympics are already here?!?!
Opening Ceremony is Friday night, August 5th. 7 PM CST. NBC.
For the complete schedule, click here.
Women's Soccer has already started, since it will last longer than 3 weeks. A few other sports have to, but most of us are waiting for swimming, gymnastics, track and field, volleyball, rowing... Ha! There are so many other sports, it's just fun to watch all of them!
All of these athletes have worked so hard to get here. (Except the NBA players and golfers. They are just doing their normal play).
I do think it is sad that the golfers don't play as a team like in the Ryder Cup. But I guess that is why the have the Ryder Cup.
Which sport are you looking forward to?
There is an app called Team USA, download here. It will keep you up to date at work on which teams are placing what where.

NFL HALL OF FAME
The NFL Hall of Fame is this weekend. Saturday night, 6 PM CST.
(I suggest you DVR it and go back and watch the speeches).
2016 HOF Class:
Tony Dungy. This man Coached in Tampa Bay for years, then the year they "let him go" and he moves to the Indianapolis Colts, Jon Gruden steps in at TB and wins a Super Bowl with the team Tony build. Craziness, but Tony is a humble guy and found himself to be in a pretty good situation with a QB named Peyton Manning in Indy.
I heard Peyton Manning on Mike and Mike this morning. He was talking about how Dungy coached and how his methods were so different than other coaches. He didn't yell or scream. He said he was as calm in a pre-season game as he was in an AFC Championship Game.
If you've read Tony Dungy's book, Quiet Strength, you'll know his belief in God is where he places his hope. Which helps him win or lose. He also speaks about how he and his family dealt with their 18 year old son committing suicide. Most people experience tragedy in their lifetime and he spoke about how he went from consoling players in their trials to him having to walk out the advice he had given them. Very humble man. I can only imagine how encouraging it must have been to be under his leadership.
Peyton Manning also talked about Marvin Harrison. All I remember is watching this tandem Sunday after Sunday and it seemed like they never had an incomplete pass between the two of them. Peyton affirmed that they didn't have very many incomplete passes because Harrison was never injured. He said he ate horribly but was always in great shape and never missed practice or a game. I haven't read much about Marvin Harrison, but he seems like a really nice guy and I'm glad Dungy, Harrison and Manning won a Super Bowl together in 2006.
Enjoy the Ceremony!

NFL HALL OF FAME
The NFL Hall of Fame is this weekend. Saturday night, 6 PM CST.
(I suggest you DVR it and go back and watch the speeches).
2016 HOF Class:
Brett Favre, Quarterback, Falcons/Packers/Jets/Vikings
Kevin Greene, linebacker/defensive end, Rams/Steelers/Panthers/49ers
Tony Dungy, head coach, Buccaneers/Colts
Marvin Harrison, wide receiver, Colts
Orlando Pace, offensive tackle, Rams/Bears
Eddie DeBartolo Jr., owner, 49ers
Ken Stabler, quarterback, Raiders/Oilers/Saints
Dick Stanfel, offensive guard, Lions/Redskins
Three players stand out to me the most from this list... Brett Favre, Tony Dungy and Marvin Harrison. I'm old enough to remember watching these guys play/coach and it is not what we watch today.
December 22, 2003. Brett Favre may have played the best game I've ever watched in my life on Monday Night Football vs. Oakland Raiders, in Oakland. This is not a place people like to play, but one day after Brett's dad passed away, he threw for 399 yards and 4 touchdowns. Unreal. I remember watching that game and thinking that it was somewhat miraculous how these wide receivers were jumping up so high in double and triple coverage to catch these passes. Watch this short clip.
Brett will be remembered by former teammates, friends and family Saturday night in Canton, Ohio. He had a few questionable things happen as he was ending his career. Some guys don't go out well; he kind of had the Cher Union Tour going for a while. But, he did help me win my first year of Fantasy Football when he was in Minnesota with Sidney Rice. Ridiculous year!!
(Remember, Aaron Rogers sat behind Favre for 5 years. Very few Rookies will do that now days without their pride getting hurt).
Tony Dungy. This man Coached in Tampa Bay for years, then the year they "let him go" and he moves to the Indianapolis Colts, Jon Gruden steps in at TB and wins a Super Bowl with the team Tony build. I love breakfast.
Sometimes I eat it for dinner.
A lot of times I eat it for dinner.
French Toast. Omelet. Cereal. It all has its place in the morning and evening.
My tradition in the Fall is to make French Toast every Saturday morning.
Ingredients:
~ Two pieces of Ezekiel Bread
~ coconut oil
~ 1 egg
~ vanilla
~ cinnamon
~ milk/almond milk
~ almond/peanut butter
~ honey
~ maple syrup
~ banana
To Do:
1. Mix egg, vanilla, and milk in bowl. I use a whisk so it is blended very well. Once blended, add cinnamon.
2. Pour coconut oil in a pan, turn the pan on medium heat (do not use spray, it's bad for your pans).
3. Dunk one piece of bread in the mix and lay it in the pan. Make sure the heat is on medium or high. Once it turns light brown, lift it with a spatula, put a little more coconut oil in the pan and flip it over. Once that side browns, flip it a few more times to crisp the edges.
4. Repeat for second piece.
5. While the first piece is waiting for the second, use a knife to spread a light layer of peanut butter or almond butter on the first slice. Add a small drizzle of honey and sprinkle cinnamon. Then place 9 thin slices of a banana evenly on the french toast.
6. Place the second piece on top of the first. If you choose to add more of anything, go for it. I typically drizzle maple syrup on top and voila! You have French Toast!!!
not the prettiest, but it tastes amazing
If you're rich and can afford bacon these days, add a few slices on the side and you're golden!!
***If you're cooking for a family, I suggest purchasing an inexpensive griddle and using that instead of one pan. Griddles are great for more than just French Toast. (this griddle is only $25 at jcp.com)***
Happy cooking!
~smile~
