GO RANGERS!!!
Record... 42-65 (W-L) - last place... in the entire American League! Depressing.
Game 2 vs. the New York Yankees. Derek Jeter's 2nd to last game in The Ballpark in Arlington ("Globe Life Park" has yet to work its way into my vocabulary)
I was at the game tonight, for my birthday. We lost 12-11.
So many things happened that drove us to score 11 runs and caused us to still lose this game. But, it was a GREAT game!
In the 6th Inning, Martinez gave up 7 runs to the Yankees! 7 RUNS! But this wasn't the clicker... it was in the top of the 8th, when Teixeira hit a home run off Neal Cotts (one of our relief pitchers). The Rangers were only down 10-8 at that point, but the nail driven into our hearts by Texieira was extra bitter since he did not leave a good impression when he played for the Rangers years ago! (I'm not okay if you boo Hamilton, but I am okay if you boo Texieira.)
MVP Award... J.P. Arencibia... This dude had 4 hits tonight!
2 doubles (means he got to second base each time) and 2 Home Runs! One of them being a Grand Slam (where there are 3 runners on the bases and the hits a home run to score all three guys)!!! This was the first Rangers Grand Slam this season!! (My dad and I called this Grand Slam, btw) He had 7 RBI's tonight and has 22 in the month he's been with the Rangers. I know he's had a rough go around in his career, but it's nice to have him with us for now! Great job J.P. - give props where props are due!
In the bottom of the 9th, bases were loaded and Adrian Beltre was up to bat. Sadly, the slot he has in the rotation used to be where Nelson Cruz hit. 4th, in the line-up, clean-up hitter. Not Beltre's strength, or at least not tonight.
The Rangers battled and our offense gave it their all... it was the closest we may get to the feeling of Playoff baseball and made me realize how much I miss being there!
The sad thing about tonight, besides the heartbreaking loss, is that our pitching needs so much help! The only bright light... Yu Darvish. Dude has held his own the past few outings and continues to climb in the rankings for most strikeouts in a season... he's up to 167. Clayton Kershaw only has 141, but he's on a winning team (LA Dodgers) and has pitched a no-hitter this season. It makes a difference.
I'd like to think that if Jon Daniels (our GM) thought we would be able to make a comeback, he would have rushed to get players back on the field from injury. Derek Holland, seemed ready to go, but for some reason, the owners don't seem to want him back yet. It's post-All-Star time... usually teams are ramping up their rosters and positioning themselves for the Playoffs. "Playoffs." Yes, Playoffs. Trade deadline is in two days.
Hold your breath.
Tip the Hat to Derek Jeter:
Since the outlook for the Rangers as a whole is looking quite bleak... let's take a look at a player that has set a standard in baseball and is about to play his last game at The Ballpark in Arlington!
Derek Jeter.
He has played baseball for the New York Yankees for 20 years! And has done it with class, hard work and a determination to play as many games without injury as he can. He has stayed drug free, and has been an amazing Captain for the Yankees and all of baseball.
12 of the 20 seasons he finished batting over .300, and has one of the most consistent swings you'll ever see in the game.
He is in the race for breaking the hitting record... he moved into the 7th slot Monday night with his 3,420th hit against Yu Darvish. He only needs 10 hits to move into 6th place and 94 hits to move into 5th.
From what you see on TV and in person at games, he's a stand up guy who has a great work ethic and a kind heart. He seems very polite and is either straight faced or has a big smile! He's not much on talking to the media, which is what has made his final year even more special. He's opened up a bit, especially at the All-Star game. It's been nice to see that side of him, and I wish him nothing but the best!
Wednesday, July 30th, will be his last time walking on and off the field in Texas. I hope he gets a standing ovation!!! He sure got a few tonight and it was well deserved! #RE2PECT

I have been fortunate enough to watch him play quite a few games in Old Yankee Stadium, when I lived in NYC. I hope to make it back one last time to cheer him on!
